For many brands and manufacturers, electric vehicles seem to be the answer to the question of the future of mobility. However, with combustion engines still powering the majority of cars driven and sold today, making such a sweeping change to model lineups across the automotive industry requires a big investment, and Jaguar Land Rover is proud to announce just how big that investment will be for them: over $18.6 billion.
The pair of iconic British automakers say that this investment will be made over the next five years, and doesn’t just involve EV manufacturing, but also includes implementing AI technology, autonomous driving, and more. The end goal is for Jaguar Land Rover to be net zero carbon throughout its industrial footprint by 2039. Its Merseyside, UK Halewood plant is set to become an all-electric factory, while the Wolverhampton Engine Manufacturing Center will be retooled to produce electric propulsion. In addition, this announcement comes with some exciting news for car enthusiasts.

Jaguar Land Rover is announcing that their immense investment will be put towards developing a modular electric architecture on which to make its next generation of mid-size SUVs, as well as a new Jaguar Architecture called JEA, which will launch in 2025. An upcoming all-electric Range Rover will be available to order later this year, and Jaguar will be revealing a 4-door electric GT, which will boast a 430-mile range and a starting price of around $125,000, and which will be revealed this year, going on sale in 2024 and being delivered in 2025. Another transformative announcement was Jaguar Land Rover’s plan to restructure its “House of Brands,” into Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, and Jaguar.
