Today, Porsche is celebrating its 75th anniversary as a leading sports car manufacturer, on the exact day when Ferdinand Porsche created the 356 ‘No. 1’ Roadster as the first automobile to bear the name Porsche. Using the monumental occasion to commemorate the historic models that shaped its brand, Porsche is also highlighting its future by revealing its all-new hypercar. Porsche is proud to unveil the Mission X as part of the ’75 Years of Porsche Sports Cars’ exhibition opening at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. The Porsche Mission X is an evolution of iconic Porsches like the 959, the Carrera GT, and the 918 Spyder.
The low-slung body of the Mission X represents the pinnacle of performance and modern luxury, showcasing a stunning Rocket Metallic finish specially designed for the concept study. Other aerodynamic features below the belt line of the compact hypercar are varnished in satin carbon fiber. A lightweight glass dome with an exoskeleton made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic extends over the driver and passenger. Opening forward and upwards, the Mission X incorporates the same style door as the legendary Porsche 917 Le Mans race car. A high-tech support structure frames the Porsche Mission X’s LED light modules, opening up like a blinking eye when activated. Porsche has even redesigned its crest for the Mission X, using a precious metal 3D honeycomb structure featured on the hood, steering, and wheel center caps.
Porsche styles the interior of the Mission X in an asymmetric design, coloring the two seats in different shades of leather. Apart from the leather pads in Andalusia Brown, the driver’s seat is Kalahari Grey and matches the open-top steering wheel. Six-point seatbelts integrated into the carbon bucket seat design safely secure the driver and passenger. Multiple cameras on board begin recording as soon as the driver presses the Record button (REC) on the multi-purpose controller. Another highlight is found on the passenger side, where a special stopwatch module displays lap times or other vital data.
While specifics on the Porsche Mission X powertrain are held in secrecy until its official launch, Porsche is already setting enormous goals for its performance. These achievements include being the fastest road-legal vehicle around the Nürburgring, having a power-to-weight ratio of roughly 1 hp per 2lbs, executing more downforce than the 992 911 GT3 RS, and charging roughly twice as fast as the Taycan Turbo S. Porsche installed its battery centrally behind the Mission X’s seats, centering its weight to provide optimal agility.
