The Nordschleife has a new EV hypercar record holder.
The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme has once again shattered expectations, setting a new Nürburgring lap record for electric supercars with a 6-minute and 59.157-second lap time. Following its record-breaking top speed run of 308.33 mph at ATP Papenburg just a month ago, its latest achievement cements BYD’s performance division as a serious contender among the world’s most renowned hypercar brands. The feat establishes the U9 Xtreme as the fastest EV around the Nordschleife and the first to dip below the seven-minute mark, a milestone long held by gasoline-powered creations.

Behind this extraordinary performance lies an intense development journey that began in mid-2024, when YANGWANG engineers began extensive testing at the 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife. Every lap delivered valuable data on traction, cornering dynamics, and heat management, which directly changed the growth of the U9 Xtreme’s track setup. On August 22, 2025, German racing driver Moritz Kranz, a veteran with nearly 10,000 laps at the Ring, pushed the U9 Xtreme to its limit. Kranz complimented the car’s engineering, crediting BYD and YANGWANG’s steps to coordinate EV power with traditional racing dynamics.

At the core of the U9 Xtreme’s success is its advanced e⁴ Platform and 1200V ultra-high-voltage setup, the first of its kind in mass production. The system powers four 30,000 rpm motors that generate over 2,958 horsepower, translating to a staggering power-to-weight ratio of 1,200 horsepower per tonne. YANGWANG’s DiSus-X intelligent body-control system introduces “body-attitude control,” which actively adjusts the car’s suspension and balance in real time. This allows the U9 Xtreme to remain controlled at high speeds while carving through the Nürburgring’s elevation changes, blind corners, and off-camber turns.

YANGWANG’s engineering team reimagined nearly every element of the U9 Xtreme’s track readiness. A newly developed titanium-alloy carbon-ceramic braking system guarantees consistent deceleration under load, while a redesigned cooling system adds to motor and battery performance. Only 30 examples of the U9 Xtreme will be produced, each representing BYD’s tech expertise and YANGWANG’s vision for the future of electric hypercars. True to its name, derived from the word “Extreme” and the symbol “X” for the unknown, the U9 Xtreme redefines what’s possible on the world’s most demanding racetrack.
