Polestar 4 production starts, targeting first deliveries in China by 2023-end and global launch in early 2024.

Polestar, a name synonymous with cutting-edge electric vehicles, has announced the commencement of production for its latest model, the Polestar 4. This development marks a significant milestone for the company, particularly with the anticipated first customer deliveries in China slated before the end of 2023. This advancement sets the stage for a broader launch in other Polestar markets, expected in early 2024.

The Polestar 4, emerging as a highly anticipated SUV coupé, goes beyond being a simple addition to the EV market. It is a statement of innovation and environmental consciousness, manifested in its production process and design, as well as a beautiful combination of luxury and performance. The first unit, adorned in a striking Snow finish with signature Swedish gold details from the Performance Pack, has already rolled off the assembly line at the Hangzhou Bay factory. This facility, operated by Geely Holding, distinguishes itself with its commitment to sustainability. It is powered by renewable electricity, including hydro power certified by I-REC and solar energy generated on-site, exemplifying Polestar’s dedication to reducing its ecological footprint.

The Polestar 4’s environmental credentials are further bolstered by its impressively low carbon footprint at launch, ranging between 19.4-21.4 tCO2e. This achievement is the lowest among Polestar cars, reflecting the company’s ongoing efforts to minimize environmental impact. The Hangzhou Bay factory employs several innovative methods to reduce waste and emissions. These include the use of a non-chrome passivator and water-based paint to lessen water pollution and volatile organic compound emissions, respectively. Additionally, the factory utilizes dry paper box filtering in its paint shop and a concentrator wheel with a regenerative thermal oxidizer to effectively treat exhaust gases.

Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, expressed his pride in the first Polestar 4 production, emphasizing the hard work and collaboration that brought this vehicle to fruition. The Polestar 4 is not just about its impressive design and performance; it also introduces cutting-edge features like a virtual rear window with a digital rear-view mirror. This car is a testament to Polestar’s innovative approach to vehicle design and manufacturing.

First unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023, the Polestar 4 represents a significant leap in the company’s product lineup. It is positioned strategically between the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 in terms of size and price. The SUV coupé is the second in Polestar’s SUV range and incorporates design elements first seen in Polestar’s concept cars. Notably, it is the fastest Polestar production car to date, a feat that underscores the brand’s commitment to performance and efficiency.

Looking ahead, Polestar plans to expand manufacturing to Busan, South Korea, from the second half of 2025. This expansion will cater to the local market and facilitate exports to North American markets, illustrating Polestar’s strategy for global reach and market penetration. With its innovative design, environmental considerations, and performance capabilities, the Polestar 4 is set to make a significant impact in the EV luxury car market, offering consumers a blend of style, sustainability, and speed that is becoming increasingly essential in today’s automotive landscape.
