Pop icon John Oates recovers his special-order Porsche 911, celebrating a reunion with his cherished Carrera.
John Oates, a name synonymous with the legendary pop duo Hall & Oates, shares more than fame and music with the renowned automaker Porsche; both celebrate their 75th birthdays in 2023. Oates, known for classic hits like “Maneater” and “Out of Touch,” has now reclaimed a piece of his history: his specially ordered 911 Carrera.
Born the same year Porsche released their first sports car, the 356 “No. 1” Roadster, Oates developed an affinity for the brand from a young age. After achieving success in the music industry, he indulged in his passion for Porsche and acquired a red 911 Turbo, which would begin a lifelong love affair with the brand. His success with Hall & Oates, selling over 40 million albums, provided Oates the luxury of personalizing a brand-new 911 Carrera 3.2 in Pearl White with black Fuchs rims and Dove Grey leather, a testament to his and Porsche’s shared dedication to excellence and customization.
However, the tale took a turn when Oates, while downsizing his collection, reluctantly sold the Carrera. It wasn’t long before regret set in, and the search for the lost 911 began. Despite his continued success as a solo artist, the Carrera remained a missing piece of his past.

Now named Karma Carrera, the 911 not only represents the couple’s journey together but is cherished as a future heirloom for their son.
