The Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge is a competition that Porsche gives to dealerships across the country. The task: find a classic Porsche (Type 987 Boxster and Cayman and Type 997 911 and older) that is in need of TLC, and bring it back to its original glory or even greater. Entries from dealers across the country are judged, and a prize is awarded to the best. However, 2023 marks a different year for Porsche as the brand celebrates its 75th anniversary as a purveyor of some of the world’s most celebrated and enjoyable German luxury performance cars, and that means that the Restoration Challenge will be different in kind.
This year, what is being changed about the Restoration Challenge is the fact that Porsche is now introducing multiple categories for dealerships to compete in. These are Preservation, Restoration, and Individualization. With more classic Porsches in America than anywhere else in the world, the potential for entries this ear is amazing, especially with room for creativity within the Individualization category, which encourages creative use of Porsche’s Genuine Parts. The awards will be given to winners at this year’s Rennsport Reunion, the return of an incredible Porsche event at Laguna Seca, which, coinciding with Porsche’s 75th anniversary and the 911’s 60th, will be quite a show.
