One of the world’s most formidable mountain ranges separates Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. The Alps are the ancestral home of the Porsche family, so they have always built cars capable of conquering high altitudes. Dr. Porsche’s daily driver was one of his designs, the VW Beetle. Because of the thin air south of Salzburg, he fitted a big supercharger and more capable carburetors. Such is the history with Porsche, embracing turbos to add power at any altitude.
