House of Rolls Royce: Chapter 1

Just in time for Christmas, Rolls-Royce has launched a new series of ads on YouTube and their homepage. The first installment is narrated by Kate Winslet and it tells the beginnings of the brand. Eleanor Thornton was a secretary of Lord Montagu. Their love affair was one for the ages. Rumored to be the plot of an upcoming film by Martin Scorsese, she posed as a model for sculptor John Sykes and his creation was first seen as the hood ornament of Lord Montagu’s Rolls-Royce.

The Spirit of Ecstasy in our office.

Charles Rolls and Henry Royce were awestruck by her beauty, and she became the symbol of the brand. Her life was tragically cut short, as she was aboard the ill-fated SS Persia. The Imperial German Navy made sport of targeting passenger ships, and it sank in 10 minutes killing 343 passengers on December 30th, 1915. Her likeness is still an object of desire, so every late model Rolls-Royce is able to hide her away inside the grille for safe keeping.

Time heals all wounds, and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has been a subsidiary of BMW since 1998. House of Rolls-Royce is a landing page dedicated to embracing their history with a preview of the future.
