How This New Bespoke Rolls-Royce Is Inspired By The Edge Of Space

62 miles above Earth’s surface lies the end of the atmosphere, delineated by a boundary called the Kármán Line, an invisible barrier between our planet and outer space. At this point, dark blue characterizes the transition between Earth’s blue sky and the darkness of outer space, and its beauty, serenity, and mystery serve as inspiration for Rolls-Royce’s latest bespoke project, the Black Badge Bullinan “Blue Shadow,” a project that Rolls-Royce calls “a bespoke journey to the edge of space.”

The luxurious SUV boasts an exterior finished in a bespoke “Stardust Blue” inspired by the way the sky looks at such immense heights. In addition, the grille and other trim pieces are finished to look like the thermal tiles on Space Shuttles used to handle the incredible temperatures caused by entering the atmosphere. The wheels are finished with translucent lacquer, and the Spirit of Ecstasy is made with 3D-printed titanium with blue lacquer.

Of course, the interior is where a Rolls-Royce shines the brightest, and this bespoke project is no exception. The fascia depicts the transition from blue to black and houses a bespoke clock that is exclusive to the Private Collection Cullinan. The Starlight Headliner plays an important role in this celestial-themed project, with a Moon embroidery and a display of stars that attempts to take its viewer to the surface of the moon with a total of 1,183 stars: 799 in white and 384 in blue. In addition, the interior also features rear seats that show off a perforated artwork, depicting what Earth looks like from space, with each seat containing over 75,000 perforations.

Each of these stunning SUVs could also be commissioned with a 1:8 scale replica of the vehicle with functioning lights, doors, and interior. However, exclusively available through the Rolls-Royce Private Office, all 62 of these cars have already been commissioned, with the production number echoing the number of miles between the surface of the Earth and the Kármán Line.
