Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has unveiled a new coachbuilt marvel, the Rolls-Royce Amethyst Droptail, the second of four stunning Droptail builds, succeeding the Boat Tail and Sweptail before it. An extraordinary expression of purity, clarity, and resilience, this unique car is a breathtaking celebration of personal passions, family heritage, and cultural legacy. Built to the exacting specifications of its commissioning client, the Amethyst Droptail stands as a symbol of modern luxury and elegant design.

The Amethyst Droptail is an elevated expression of applied art, reflecting the client’s global inspirations, refined tastes, and rich heritage. Inspired by the birthstone of the client’s son, the car boasts extraordinary details and sophisticated design elements that reward those who explore it. From the largest wooden surface ever produced by Rolls-Royce to the exquisite integration of precious amethyst gems, the Amethyst Droptail is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship and innovation.

The design’s inspiration is drawn from the Globe Amaranth wildflower, which blooms in the desert near one of the client’s homes. Its soft purple hue with fine flecks of powdered aluminium reflects light and creates a captivating iridescent finish. Meanwhile, the deep purple Amethyst contrast paint adds a touch of elegance to the exterior.

One of the standout features of the Amethyst Droptail is the veneer aft deck, which is the only aerodynamically functional wooden surface on a new motor car. Rolls-Royce’s aerodynamicists and wood specialists worked in unison to create this artistic piece that not only enhances the car’s beauty but also contributes to its downforce.

In addition, the Amethyst Droptail showcases both brushed and polished finishes on the Pantheon grille. This surface treatment has never been attempted before on this scale and is a vivid demonstration of contemporary craftsmanship. The 50-hour collective work effort involved in achieving this effect underscores the devotion to detail that is a hallmark of Rolls-Royce creations.

The interior is a fascinating blend of Calamander Light open-pore wood, Sand Dunes leather, and woven leather floor mats. Rare amethyst gems adorn the rotary dials, adding a touch of luxury that resonates with the car’s name. The wooden surface area, extending across the fascia, doors, and aft deck, is the most extensive in Rolls-Royce’s history, and its careful selection and placement demonstrate a mastery of materials.

Additionally, the removable hard top incorporates electrochromic glass that changes colour to match the interior and exterior hues. This chameleon effect required over 60 iterations of glass colouring before achieving perfection.

A highlight of the Amethyst Droptail is the singular timepiece created by Swiss haute horlogerie maison, Vacheron Constantin. Named ‘Les Cabinotiers Armillary Tourbillon,’ this handmade masterpiece complements the car’s design and can be removed and stored separately.

The Rolls-Royce Amethyst Droptail is a remarkable projection of connoisseurship, contemporary design, and personal heritage. Unveiled at a private event in Gstaad, Switzerland, this masterpiece celebrates the client’s cultural legacy, passions, and the timeless artistry that defines Rolls-Royce. A manifestation of luxury and innovation, the Amethyst Droptail stands as an enduring symbol of family legacy, creativity, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. The remaining two Droptail builds are sure to be anticipated as the Amethyst and La Rose Noire builds set a very high standard for luxury, craftsmanship, and artistry.
