Mercedes G63 4×4 Squared Review
The new Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 4×4 is the creation of a group of G-class engineers in collaboration with other engineers at the performance car division of Mercedes. Unlike the last 4×4 squared version that was based on the standard G550, this new installment is based on the Mercedes-AMG G63. It is a unique SUV whose age-long military body design, high-caliber V8 engine, lovely portal axles, massive P325/55VR22 tires, and sizable ground clearance make it distinct from other units.
With its low-range gearing accompanied by a center console button and three differential locks, the G63 AMG 4×4 squared is made to traverse every terrain out there, no matter how treacherous. Add its quality traction to those giant tires and huge ground clearance and you have an optimal off-road monster.
Notably, the G63’s 351mm ground clearance is greater than that of the G63 4Matic by an impressive 113mm. This difference is made possible through the inclusion of the above-mentioned portal axles which were specially made for the G63 4×4 Squared. The idea of using portal axles started its evolution in 2013 with the creation of the G63 6×6. The G63 4X4 Squared’s portal axles are equipped with gearsets at each end. These sturdy-looking gear sets help to offset the center line of the axle and elevate both the chassis and body.
Another contributory factor to the higher ground clearance is the tires’ extra rolling radius which brings about an increase of 210mm in fording depth when compared with the G63 4Matic. Also, the approach, departure, and ramp angles of the G63 are more extended than those of the standard model by 14.3deg, 7.2deg, and 20.3deg respectively.
In a nutshell, the G63 4×4 Squared is an extraordinary SUV that is difficult (but not impossible) to assess via conventional standards. It draws great appeal because of a number of characteristics including its spectacular exterior design, posh interior, high-performance capacity, and remarkable longevity. It is one SUV that generates considerable on-road excitement in addition to its outstanding off-road output. Many users will surely feel it has an edge over the regular G63 4Matic, especially from a trail perspective.
