Automotive aficionados will enjoy an exceptional liberty when the 10th Annual Friends of Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show calls port at Boys Republic in Chino Hills, CA, on June 2-3, 2017. Trading battleship machinery for vehicles and engines, this year’s event will revolve around the Robert Wise directed film, “The Sand Pebbles”, for which Steve McQueen received an Academy Awards nomination as best actor.
The action begins Friday evening, June 2, with “The Sand Pebbles” VIP dinner. The evening will include a silent auction and wine tasting, followed by a movie themed dinner program and live auction. The meal will be planned, prepared and served by culinary students of Boys Republic.
The main event on Saturday, June 3, will bring together hundreds of cars and motorcycles to be displayed throughout the campus – from American muscle classics to rare European sports and race cars – in a festival-like atmosphere.
Enthusiasts wishing share their passion and head out on patrol may sign up for the 2nd Annual Steve McQueen Vintage Rally, sponsored by Russo and Steele, which takes place on May 20 and 21, 2017. Limited to 48 classic cars, the two-day journey travels from Dana Point, through the Cuyamaca mountain town of Julian, traversing to Borrego Springs, with an overnight stay in the Palm Desert area. The Boys Republic was established in 1907, as a private, non-profit community for at-risk boys and girls, ages 13-17. Steve McQueen attended as a student from 1947-49. The actor credited the school with turning his life around and pointing him on the path to success. He never forgot that connection, and remained involved with the school even after he became a Hollywood star and legend. The McQueen family continues that involvement today.
Over the past nine years, the car and motorcycle show has raised more than $1 million, with all proceeds donated to Boys Republic. As a result, improvements to the campus include a new teaching bakery, renovations of the 60-year-old gymnasium, and complete renovations to the six campus living units. For students participating in the school’s re-established auto-tech class, monies have been pledged to fund an annual scholarship to graduates continuing these studies at the community college level.
The show was originally established by members and friends of the Porsche 356 Club of Southern California, and continues to attract automobile, motorcycle and off-road enthusiasts from throughout the United States.
Discounted pre-registration opens January 1, 2017 on the website and closes May 1, 2017. Due to space limitations, pre-registered vehicles will receive first priority in display placement.
