2011 Ferrari 599 GTO w/168 Miles Heading to Mecum Indy 2020

With the legendary GTO moniker, this special 168-mile Ferrari is one of only 599 produced worldwide. Finished in Rosso Corsa complemented by the distinctive Scuderia shields, the 599 GTO—one of 125 exported to the U.S. market—is a superb example of a state-of-the art front-engine V-12 layout from Maranello circa 2011. The drivetrain starts with a 180-degree flat-plane crankshaft, aluminum block and heads, fuel-injected 6.0L/661 HP V-12 mated to a quick-shifting automatic transmission featuring six forward speeds.

How quick shifting is it? With the Manettino dial set to race, the time to shift via the paddle shifters is a mere 60 milliseconds, or about twice as fast as the 599 GTB Fiorano that forms the basic platform for the 599 GTO. For a supercar, the 599 GTO rides smoothly on magnetorheological dampers that are critical to an advanced suspension system. Stopping on a dime should be no problem with carbon-ceramic disc brakes with red Brembo brake calipers, while the 599 GTO’s handling is breathtakingly consistent thanks to 10-spoke alloy wheels shod with sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires—important stuff when the car in question has a lofty top speed of 208 MPH.

From its “Ferrari 31 Formula 1 World Titles” dedication plate to the bucket seats that sport beautiful black inserts on tan leather hides with embroidered Prancing Horse headrests in black stitching, the interior is certainly worthy of the Ferrari name. Comfort comes in the form of dual-zone climate control, while the yellow 10,000 RPM tachometer and 220 MPH speedometer make a definitive statement about the serious nature of this performance machine, which is capable of 0-60 MPH in 3.1 seconds and a redline-limited top speed of 208 MPH. Fire up the sonorous V-12 engine and rush down a curvy road to prove there’s no question that the 599 GTO is quite simply a masterpiece collection of the finest components available in period to Ferrari.
