Fuel strategy will make or break your chance at a trophy, and nobody knows that more than Alexander Rossi. His win at Mid-Ohio last weekend and at Long Beach in April prove that he knows how to save gas. That is how he won the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 back in 2016. On the sidewalls are the names of all 66 previous Indy winners that ran Firestone race rubber. May 29, 2016 was Rossi’s first time at the famous track, and his performance not only resulted in 1st place, he also won Rookie-of-the-Year, being the 9th Rookie in history to win the race. But part of the win is owed to this machine, as it had a history with Alex Tagliani from 2012-13, Jack Hawksworth in 2014, and it allowed Gabby Chaves to win Rookie-of-the-Year in 2015.
The Dallara DW12 cars were named in honor of our local hero Dan Wheldon. It used a Honda 2.2-liter twin-turbo V6 behind the cockpit to reach over 230 mph. This is chassis #37, which turned the fastest lap of the race in 2016 and launched Rossi into a dominating career in the Verizon IndyCar Series.
