1 of 11 US Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Being Auctioned by Mecum

Only 11 examples of the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport 16.4 hypercar were ever produced for the United States market. And this is one of those few examples, and it’s heading to Mecum’s Monterey 2018 auction in exemplary condition.

The Veyron itself was introduced to the world in 2005 as an absolute monster. For its powerplant, the Veyron relies on an 8.0-liter W16 engine that’s matched up with four turbochargers. Having a twin-turbo car is commonplace nowadays, but quad-turbocharged engines were and still are unheard of. Each Veyron engine could put out 1,000 hp, an amount that would be set as a benchmark for automakers looking to create a supercar or hypercar of their own.

Bugatti had a winner on their hand with the Veyron, but they were still looking for ways to make the model even better. Their answer? The Grand Sport. Bugatti introduced the Veyron Grand Sport as a targa top version of the Veyron. Paying homage to the Bugatti Type 40 and Type 43 models from the 1920’s and 30’s, the Veyron Grand Sport quickly became a collector’s car. And with only 150 examples of the hypercar being made, collector’s jumped on the opportunity to pick one up.

But now, you’ll just have to jump up and bid on this Veyron Grand Sport at Mecum’s Monterey event on Saturday, August 25, 2018. Speaking specifically, this example has a two-tone exterior of metallic red and black paint. It has polished factory wheels and a Cognac leather interior with carbon fiber sport seats. For sound, you can either listen to the W16 engine or eight-speaker Puccini sound system.
