After a disastrous fire that destroyed Jaguar’s Browns Lane factory, the English automaker was forced to halt production on the D-Type race car. This led Jaguar to team up with George Lister Engineering Limited to create a new race car. The result was the anew car that would be powered by Jaguar’s 3.4-liter twin-cam 6. The first example would go on to be essentially unbeatable in 1957, winning 11 of 14 races overall.
After the first Lister-Jaguar car was created, a new car had to be produced: BHL-102. It was first delivered to Briggs Cunningham’s New York facility for the 1958 Sebring 12 Hours. After a disastrous showing at said race, the car would be fitted with a new engine and would take 11 victories out of 16 races, and would go on to win numerous races until 1960 when Chuck Daigh purchased the car.
BHL-102 would then exchange hands multiple times, being taken to historic races and expertly restored in 1984. Most recently, it won 1st in Class and 2nd Overall at Road America during the Jaguar Feature Race in 2015, and was featured in the Cars of Sterling Moss display at Amelia Island in 2015.
