Mecum Kissimmee 2020 Offering McLaren P1 Hypercar

Presented by Mecum Auctions – Following the 12C, the first all-McLaren road model, the stunning P1 plug-in hybrid sports car debuted at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Sales commenced during October 2013 along a strictly limited production run with orders for all 375 cars sold by the next month. Competing directly with the forthcoming Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari La Ferrari, the McLaren P1 helped ignite the extreme-performance “Hypercar” rivalry of the mid-2010s and beyond.

Built with equal measures of extreme lightness and strength, the P1 was based upon a carbon monocoque chassis weighing just 90 kilograms and cloaked in carbon-fiber body panels. The high-strength aluminum wheels, measuring 19 inches in diameter up front and 20 inches rear, follow the same principles, weighing just 7.94 kilograms and 9.27 kilograms, respectively. Measuring just 3.2mm in thickness, the P1 windshield is reinforced with a plastic interlayer, cutting 3.5 kilograms over that of the prior 12C. Inside, carpeting was deleted for further weight reduction. Non-lacquered interior carbon fiber shaved a further 1.5 kilograms. All these designed-in features contributed to the P1’s extremely low 1,395 kilogram total dry weight, yielding extremely high-performance in concert with the Hybrid powertrain rated at 903 HP including McLaren’s proprietary, twin-turbocharged DOHC 3.8L V-8 engine and single electric motor, with power routed through a dual-clutch automatic transmission.

A unique, purpose-built design, the mid-mounted twin-turbocharged V-8 engine of the P1 is based upon a completely new casting equipped with competition-type dry-sump lubrication, a flat-plane crankshaft and twin turbochargers, developing 727 HP at 7,300 RPM. The P1’s single electric motor is utilized to negate turbo lag under hard acceleration; producing 176 HP, it raises total P1 output to a mind-bending 903 HP rating. Performance is astounding, with the P1 requiring just 2.8 seconds to reach 100 KPH (62 MPH) from rest and 6.8 seconds to reach 200 KPH. The quarter-mile rushes by in 9.8 seconds. The speedometer will read 300 KPH in 16.5 seconds en route to an electronically limited top speed of 350 KPH (217 MPH). Fuel economy is equally astounding, with 34 mpg average combined fuel consumption.

Finished in stunning Volcano Orange paint over black upholstery, this 2015 McLaren P1 comes from a noted private supercar collection and bears Chassis No. 152 of just 375 produced. Just 1,352 miles are accumulated since new. The one-piece, carbon-fiber MonoCage chassis features a rear extruded aluminum subframe, carbon-fiber body panels with a built-in air-intake snorkel, dihedral doors, and LED head- and running-lights. Amenities include carbon fiber racing seats, dual-zone climate control, navigation, and a portrait-screen infotainment system.

Four powertrain and transmission modes include E-mode, Normal, Sport and Track/Race. Active aerodynamics include adjustable front and rear wings and adjustable front underbody flaps. The P1’s double-wishbone independent suspension includes RaceActive chassis control with four damping and roll modes: Normal, Sport, Track and Race (with variable height and spring rates). Unique Akebono-McLaren layered carbon-ceramic disc brakes are infused with silicon carbide for excellent heat dissipation and absorb 50% more energy than those on the 12C. Brake Steer, originally developed by McLaren for the 1997 F1 season, applies the brakes to the car’s inside rear wheel when cornering too quickly and brings the P1’s nose closer to the apex. ABS, Traction Control, ESC, Hill Hold and Launch Control maximize the P1 driving experience. Ultra-lightweight forged alloy wheels mounting Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires provide road contact.

A stunning achievement in every respect, this 2015 McLaren P1 is an extremely rare, low-mileage example that is certain to amaze all who experience it with its technical prowess, amazing looks, immense performance and victorious heritage that the McLaren marque can deliver.

THIS CAR WILL BE AUCTIONED OFF AT THE MECUM KISSIMMEE 2020 EVENT (JANUARY 2-12) AS LOT S159.
