The Return of the Type S Ushers In a New Era of Acura Performance

It wasn’t a retirement, it was a rebirth. Acura is bringing back the Type S after more than a decade, along with a full redesign of the 2021 TLX. The stylish Acura TLX will be the first new model sporting the iconic Type S badge, paving the way for a new era of Precision Crafted Performance for the brand. Past Type S models are coveted by collectors and performance enthusiasts alike for their performance upgrades, and Acura teases a future where we could see the iconic Type S badge on additional models.

The TLX Type S is built on the most rigid sedan chassis Acura has ever created. Under the hood, the new Type S packs an Acura-exclusive turbocharged V-6 engine. Along with the upgraded engine, drivers will also see the return of the race-inspired double-wishbone suspension for improved grip and handling and an NSX-sourced Electric Servo Brake system. To get all that power to the ground, the Type S will feature Acura’s industry-leading Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®). The torque-vectoring drivetrain adapts to the driver, delivering superior maneuverability and high-performance handling while improving stability in all weather conditions.

The styling package, standard with the Type S, takes the TLX’s redesign to a whole other level. With an exclusive gloss-black front splitter and rear diffuser, the sleek design has been meticulously crafted to turn heads with its wide stance and muscular lines. The hood is adorned with sculpted creases that flow into the distinctive Diamond Pentagon Grille. A set of 4-piston red Brembo® calipers sits behind the 20-inch, 10-spoke, Shark Gray front wheels. The Type S badge adds a host of tech, performance, and styling features to the TLX’s already extensive feature list, but more important, it heralds a new generation of performance and styling from Acura.
