BMW Unveils New Electric Bike With a “Modular Top Speed”

BMW has introduced new top-speed tech that the world hasn’t seen before.

The new BMW i Vision Amby has been unveiled as a new e-bike concept that has groundbreaking tech that could change the game. At the heart of this new e-bike is an electric drive system that gives the rider the ability to select three different top speed modes: 15.5 mph, 28 mph and 37 mph. Each of these modes is selected through an app on the linked smartphone, but the app can also select them automatically by recognizing the location and road type through geofencing. On top of being able to control the top speed, the app can also unlock the bike, set up rider profiles with an optimized seat height, and control basic functions. BMW does note that higher speeds will require the rider to obtain plates and insurance. This modular top speed concept is also a bit tricky because, as BMW notes, there is no existing legal framework for a vehicle with this kind of technology.

The BMW i Vision AMBY is most certainly a concept with tech that needs to be considered legally, it’s an exciting look into the future of two-wheeled mobility.
