We’ve waited 21 years for this day to arrive. Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division has spent a ton of money and time to develop the 2020 Toyota Supra. Unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show this morning, it coincided with a press release with all the juicy details.
We applaud Toyota for keeping the Supra true to form. This 2-seater is powered by a turbocharged 3.0L straight six. Built with cooperation from BMW, it offers 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Engineers took their orders directly from their President. Akio Toyoda is a race-winning Master Driver, and he demanded a 50:50 weight distribution.

To make sure it was worthy of the Supra name, Mr. Toyoda tested the car himself on the Nurburgring along with other tracks around the world. Styling was heavily influenced by the FT-1 concept, and the double-bubble roof is an homage to the classic 2000 GT.
A driver-focused cockpit includes offers an 8.8″ touchscreen on the Premium models or a 6.5″ screen controlled by a rotary wheel on the lesser-equipped cars. All cars with have dual-mode suspension with Normal and Sport settings. Safety features include automatic braking, lane departure with steering assist, 360-degree collision alert and rear-cross traffic warning.

Brembo has supplied 13.7″ rotors at all corners along with 4-piston calipers. Michelin tires measure 255/35/19 front and 275/35/19 on on the rear. They need to be wide because an electronic differential is able to send 100% of power to either rear wheel at an instant. To ensure the best build quality in the world, the rights to assembly were given to Magna Steyr. It will be assembled in Graz, Austria alongside the Mercedes G-Wagen and the BMW Z4 on the world’s cleanest assembly line.
