This reveal sets Volvo firmly on the course toward an electric future.

Volvo has been known for decades for its unique and markedly Scandinavian approach to automotive luxury. With a serene aesthetic and a very vocal dedication to being the pinnacle of automotive safety, the brand has enjoyed recent growth and transformation while remaining true to its roots. However, yet another change is taking place as Volvo announces its new all-electric flagship SUV, the EX90. The model is just as much a Volvo as any other, but blazes a trail for electric Volvos to come, and also enhances the brand’s commitment to sustainability and safety with new approaches.

The vehicle features NVIDIA DRIVE and new software that allows the car to create a 360-degree real-time view of its surroundings. Along with lidar and sensors that use algorithms to detect drowsiness or distraction, the new EX90 is actively able to respond to situations quickly and calmly. If the system detects that you’ve fallen asleep or have a medical emergency, the vehicle is designed to safely stop and call for help. Volvo says that the lidar system in the vehicle makes it one of the first to be ready to adopt unsupervised autonomous driving technology in the future.

Famous in the gaming world, the Unreal Engine powers advanced graphics at high speeds on the screens and head-up display. Also at the intersection of technology and luxury is the Bowers and Wilkins audio system, which uses speakers in the headrest and Dolby Atmos to create an unparalleled sound experience. Sustainability is an important focus for the new Volvo EX90, not only with the electric drivetrain but also with the use of 15 percent recycled steel, 25 percent recycled aluminum, and 15 percent recycled plastics and bio-based materials. The dual-motor all-wheel drive in the new Volvo electric luxury SUV boasts 517 horsepower and 671 lb/ft of torque. With 7 seats and more advanced safety, technology, and luxury than ever, the new EX90 pushes Volvo even further forward.
