Turning Junker Mustangs Into Limited Watches

Mustang fans looking for a new watch need to look no further because your dream timepiece is right here. REC Watches, a watchmaker based in Denmark, has been taking Ford Mustangs that are destined to be scrapped and turning them into one-off watches that any pony car fan would adore.

“Most people would just see a pile of metal, a ghost of a Mustang. We see something completely different – the soul of a car and a story that needs to be told,” said co-founder Christian Mygh. “I’m not cutting up Mustangs. I’m bringing Mustangs that are beyond repair back to life as a watch.”

Both co-founders, Mygh and Jonathan Kamstrup, check salvage yards all around the world for Mustangs that can be turned into their specialty watches. Once a car is found, they look into the history of the car by talking to previous owners, gathering stories and pictures of the car’s prime days. Once they have everything together they turn it all into a video that’s dedicated to the car and the watches that come from it.

The watches have been popular enough that Vaughn Gittin Jr., the Mustang Madman, wears one of these watches that includes carbon fiber body from his 700 hp World Drift Series Ford Mustang RTR.

Timepieces created by REC Watches start at $1,495.
