Jacob & Co. timepieces bring a whole new meaning to ‘out of this world’.

Space travel became prominent within the luxury watch world when Buzz Aldrin took his first step on the moon wearing an Omega Speedmaster, an iconic model known as the first wristwatch on the moon. Now, 53-years later, the luxury timepiece professionals at Jacob & Co. are proud to announce their exploration as the first-ever Triple Axis Tourbillon in space. The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE began its journey on April 8th from the Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center, accompanying investor and philanthropist Eytan Stibbe on his trip to outer space.

The Astronomia Bucherer Blue features a dark blue starry dial finish that beautifully highlights the intricate craftsmanship of Jacob & Co.’s gravitational triple-axis tourbillon. Beneath its domed sapphire crystal, the complex movement rotates and includes a spherical diamond that reflects the moon and a magnesium lacquered globe that represents the earth. The piece uniqué Astronomia showcases a commemorative backcase design that pays homage to the monumental event for Jacob & Co. The ‘Rakia’ space mission, along with the Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer Blue, spent 17-days 1-hour and 37-minutes in space. The space crew orbited the earth 273-times at an altitude of 250-miles at nearly 17,500mph, traveling over 7,000,000-miles in total. After returning from its adventure in space, the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Bucherer BLUE is set to make an appearance in New York at the Bucherer 1888 TimeMachine from July 11-17th. Concluding the week-long public exhibition, the piece of Jacob & Co. history will be on display with Sotheby’s New York until its single-lot live auction on July 26th. The highly-anticipated auction is on offer with no reserve and a bid start of $1, all proceeds of the sale will be donated to benefit charities.
