As much as we loved the Dodge Demon, it had a few quirks. Aside from collectors hoarding them, there was no option for a manual transmission. That’s why we jumped for joy for the 2019 Dodge SRT Hellcat Widebody. We spent a week with this stick-shift beast and it did not disappoint.
If you want the power without the aggressive looks, the widebody package is optional. It should be standard thanks to the wider rubber at all corners. Starting with the most obvious aspect, the Tremec transmission was inherited from the Viper. The clutch is numb yet predictable, and the flywheel does a great job of keeping the blower spinning during off-throttle cornering.

After a week of driving, here is our consensus. Seating position and controls are excellent. Visibility is not as bad as the Camaro, but its close. The curb weight of 4,490 lbs is easily upset in the corners, so you need to be ready to wrestle the wheel. The power is incredible. It doesn’t care what gear you are in, the 2019 Dodge SRT Hellcat Widebody acceleration is always available. Thirst is only quenched by premium fuel, and we were not able to get above 12 mpg.

For under $70,000, it could be daily driven if you don’t mind the price of fuel, your mileage may vary. Of course, this car is available as a narrow body, but it looks too close to all the V6 rental Challengers. It is worth the price to have so much fun!
