The system is named ALA for the Italian translation of Active Lamborghini Aerodynamics, and it was quickly patented. This is a real game-changer, and Ford uses a similar concept in the hollow taillights and the flying buttresses of the Ford GT. While Ford’s system is passive, the Huracan Performante controls how much air is sent into the slipstream left to right also. When cornering at high speeds, there is a bias between the air emitted left to right. This holds the car to the ground and allows for clean rotation through the curve.
But Lamborghini didn’t just apply this system at the tail. Behind the front bumper are variable, and that ration how much air goes over or under the spoiler. Wild aerodynamic systems like this were banned by most racing classes long ago, so we’re glad Lamborghini chose to revive them for us to enjoy.
