Ferrari has decided to reopen an important chapter of its history.
It’s been nearly 50 years since Ferrari decided to throw in the towel when it comes to top class endurance racing and focus on F1 after a disappointing 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1973. With 3 Ferraris spending time leading the race, only one even finished, and that was in second. It marked the end of one of racing’s greatest dynasties, with the 250 LM, the 275 P, and the 330 P2 and P3 all forging Ferrari’s two-decade endurance racing legacy.

It’s been a very long time, but Ferrari has just announced that it’s decided to return to the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship 50 years later with a new Le Mans Hypercar. The first details and a teaser image of the new car have been revealed, and the front of the car resembles the Ferrari Daytona SP3, a car that pays homage to 60s Ferrari race cars. Ferrari says that the new Le Mans hypercar will start development testing in the coming weeks, with a year left until the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans. The countdown begins now, as Ferrari will re-enter the Le Mans ring half a century after it left.
