The beginning of the end for the production of the second-generation Ford GT.
The new 2022 Ford GT LM has just been revealed and it is noted to be the final special edition of the American supercar. Ford says that deliveries of the model will begin this fall and production will wind down by year-end. It’s said to say goodbye, but all of the news regarding the second-generation Ford GT has been exciting, to say the least. Anyways, enough reminiscing.
For this final special edition, the Ford GT LM will be honoring the only American supercar to win Le Mans. With victories in 1966 and 2016, Ford’s race car has done what others cannot. On its exterior, this special edition GT will have a Liquid Silver finish that is joined by either a red or blue theme.
The choice of those two colors comes from the race livery of the No. 68 Ford GT that won in Le Mans in 2016. These accents can be found as tinted carbon fiber aerodynamic components like the front splitter, side sills, door sills, engine bay louvers, mirror stalks, and rear diffuser. Additionally, the 20-inch exposed gloss carbon fiber wheels come with either red or blue inner-barrel accents depending on whichever theme is selected.
Inside the cabin, there are carbon fiber seats wrapped in Alcantara, including a driver’s seat in the color of the livery selected (red or blue). No matter which color is selected, the passenger seat will come in Ebony but it will have stitching that matches the driver’s seat.
One unique and exclusive feature of this new Ford GT is the exhaust system. For the final special edition, Ford went with a titanium dual-exhaust system that has a “cyclonic” design in the tips. Found above these tips is a titanium GT LM badge.
And finally, as a cherry-on-top for the GT LM, Ford did something very special. Ford Performance found the third-place 2016 Ford GT’s engine components and brought its spirit to each of the new GT LM special editions. To accomplish this, they ground down the crankshaft into a powder and used that material to 3D print an instrument panel badge for each example.
Just 20 examples of the 2022 Ford GT LM will be created. Pricing has yet to be announced.
