McLaren Speedtail Price, Specs, Photos & Review

McLaren Speedtail Price

Records are meant to be broken, and the only limit for a hypercar should be the ambitions of the engineers. Such is the case with the McLaren Speedtail. As it represents the future of the automotive world, the McLaren Speedtail price is $2.25 Million. Obviously, speculators will demand a premium once deliveries begin, so we hope the dealers can avert such unscrupulous acts. This will hopefully allow the McLaren Speedtail for sale to be the hottest car of the decade. It is a small cost to pay for such performance and technology, so follow along as we explain those aspects in detail. We will know the actual dealer MSRP as production approaches.

There are three unique collections to help you customize your McLaren Speedtail.

McLaren Speedtail Review

It is easy to review a normal car, but a proper McLaren Speedtail review will only leave the reader astonished. In order to build the most aerodynamic car of all time, the body is a teardrop in almost every sense. After the exterior astonishes you, let’s consider what the McLaren Speedtail top speed of 250 mph has in common with normal cars. It has four tires. A majority of the cockpit and chassis are the latest in carbon fiber, and that is where any similarities end. It uses a combination of gas and hybrid technology to send 1,036 horsepower to the rear wheels. Thanks to a curb weight of 3,153 lbs, you will be at 186 mph in only 13 seconds. You won’t feel uneasy in the corners because the driver’s seat is at the center of the car. It doesn’t get better than this.

The McLaren Speedtail looks streamlined from any direction.

McLaren Speedtail Specs

“What’s past is prologue” when it comes to McLaren’s hypercars. Because of the McLaren Speedtail specs, the manufacturer placed it in a new category: Hyper-GT. While it might not be a GT car in your mind, it does have room for 2 passengers and a bit of cargo. One of their goals was to make it a first for many innovations. As such, the windshield glass continues as one-piece, over the cockpit and down to the rear quarter panels. Of those, each quarter panel has ailerons that bend up to act as a spoiler.

McLaren Speedtail Engine

It takes incredible technology and innovation for the McLaren Speedtail to make1,036 horsepower. Only a few cars have ever done this, and they are in the history books. The factory have been silent on what the gasoline engine is, but we do know about the hybrid system. The electric motor makes 309 horsepower on a full charge. Electric torque is rated at 258 lb-ft, which is plenty for a daily driver. Unfortunately, the car will not arrive with the ability to cruise on battery power alone.

Transmission and mode selection controls are on the roof of the McLaren Speedtail.

McLaren Speedtail Transmission

If you have driven a McLaren, it has been connected to the road by a Graziano transmission. The Italian wizards are responsible for the SSG, or Seamless Shift Gearbox. This 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission interrupts the engine’s ignition for a few milliseconds, changing gears while power is reduced temporarily. It happens in the twinkling of an eye, as soft as a breeze. But if you dial in more aggressive settings, it can respond in a brutal manner for spirited driving. The McLaren Speedtail transmission will incorporate this technology along with an input from the electric motor.

The driver sits center with passengers outboard in the McLaren Speedtail.

McLaren Speedtail Interior

Some people have to be the center of attention. That is why the driver’s seat of the McLaren Speedtail is ahead and between the outboard passengers. One of the major aspects is the exposed carbon fiber. Instead of a traditional weave pattern, it has been CNC machined for a gorgeous grain. Every aspect of the Speedtail interior is symmetrical. Twin touchscreens flank the steering wheel, one for system controls, the other for infotainment.

And even smaller screens serve as the base of the A-pillars. They take the place of rear-view mirrors to give you a panoramic view of both sides. This comes from retractable HD cameras in each door. Instead of sun visors, the entire glazed area of the greenhouse darkens electronically. Without a dome light, the cockpit is illuminated by LEDs embedded in the glass. Truly a car from the future.

Massive brakes hide behind this fixed wheel cover on the McLaren Speedtail.

McLaren Speedtail Brakes

Any car that is capable of 250 mph needs serious stopping power. For the McLaren Speedtail brakes, reducing speed is done three ways. The first is a traditional hydraulic system with the same booster used on its predecessor. The second comes in the form of energy regeneration. This charges the battery by using the electric motor as a generator. As a final means to an end, twin ailerons are incorporated into the tail. Like all modern active aero systems, they will go vertical under extreme maneuvers to slow the beast.

The McLaren Speedtail is the first car to have ailerons made of flexible carbon fiber.

McLaren Speedtail Standout Features

Since we already told you what it shares with a normal car, here are just a few of the McLaren Speedtail standout features. The rear ailerons are part of the rear body. Made of flexible carbon fiber, they are hydraulic. Another hydraulic feature is the active suspension. This eliminates the need for sway bars and offers a smooth ride. The essential controls are mounted on the roof, including the shifter and powered doors. Every surface that is not carbon fiber is covered in leather. That includes the floors, rockers, and the central pedal box.
