The iconic McLaren Solus GT commemorated the 60th anniversary of McLaren with a sensational victory at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Dominating the Timed Shootout Final, the Solus GT reaffirmed its top-tier performance and McLaren’s engineering prowess. This win at the world-renowned Festival of Speed comes as a crowning glory for McLaren’s 60th-anniversary celebrations. The Solus GT not only thrilled spectators with its performance but also marked the second Goodwood title for McLaren in the past three years, following their 2021 triumph.
The 2023 Goodwood Festival was also the stage for the McLaren 750S supercar’s dynamic debut. As the lightest and most powerful series-production McLaren to date, the 750S’s impressive high-speed runs over the weekend were a sight to behold.
Born in the virtual realm for Gran Turismo SPORT, the Solus GT was brought to life by McLaren, with only 25 units destined for production. It boasts a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine, generating 829 horsepower and 479 lb/ft of torque. Weighing less than 2,205 lbs, the Solus GT combines an incredibly advanced aerodynamic package with its powertrain, delivering an unparalleled level of performance. The festival also saw the Solus GT on display at McLaren House, alongside the newly unveiled 750S supercar.
Marvin Kirchhöfer, McLaren Factory Driver, spearheaded the Solus GT’s victory by storming to the top of the timesheet with a record run of 45.342 seconds in the Shootout Final. This blistering performance proved the car’s remarkable abilities on Goodwood’s 1.16-mile Hillclimb, further solidifying McLaren’s racing legacy. Reflecting on the event, Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive, said, “Victory for the Solus GT in the Timed Shootout Final crowns a milestone Goodwood Festival of Speed for McLaren.”
The 2023 Goodwood Festival was a testament to McLaren’s ongoing excellence. Amid 30 years of the Festival and McLaren’s 60th-anniversary celebrations, the public dynamic debuts of both the Solus GT and the 750S were significant achievements. With another Timed Shootout Final victory under its belt, McLaren continues to uphold its stature in the world of high-performance automotive engineering.
