Don’t believe the media, sedans are not dead! Just because crossovers and SUV sales are surpassing the traditional four-door, that doesn’t mean automakers have stopped improving their core products. That’s why Audi has pulled out all the stops for the new 2019 A8. As their flagship, it carries the torch for the new Audi Premium design language. We’ve seen glimpses of it in recent concepts, and the new A8 finally brings it to fruition.

The design isn’t too daring because they know their customers. Subtle improvements like the flat roof panel and pronounced fenders help to keep everyone around you in awe of the new sedan. The headlights are “HD Matrix LED” and the taillights are OLED, which make for safe & efficient illumination. Looks aren’t everything, so the A8 rides on a new version of the ASF, or Audi Space Frame. In order to keep up with the competition, the new chassis is only 58% aluminum. It incorporates high strength steel into a safety cage, along with composites in critical areas.
A new interface was needed in order to manage the litany of entertainment and system controls. The new MMI touch response is based on a 10.1″ screen that incorporates haptic feedback. When switched off, it blends seamlessly into the dash, why can’t everyone else do this? The menus and landing pages are configurable for up to 7 individual drivers, and it stores personalization settings for ambient lighting, entertainment and navigation points. The system also has 4GLTE with WiFi for up to 8 devices.
A new 3.0 liter V6 is endowed with 48-volt electronics to create a mild hybrid system. It uses a 10aH battery coupled to a big alternator/starter to assist the engine when needed. Of course, there will be more power in the V8 and S8 versions, but we’ll make due with the new base model for now.
