It’s the first hyper luxury SUV of the 21st century, the fastest SUV in the world, the most powerful SUV in the world and it’s set to feature the most expensive car clock in the world – if you choose to have it installed, of course.
The Bentley Bentayga was fully introduced to the world just ahead of the Frankfurt International Auto Show (IAA) Sept. 9, and when it debuted at the show, we learned that the first one to be sold was sold to Queen Elizabeth II herself. And, thanks to the ongoing partnership between Bentley and Breitling, the Bentayga will keep time with one of the world’s most complex movements.
The Mulliner Tourbillon by Breitling currently exists as a watch, but the timepiece has been modified to fit on the dashboard of the Bentayga, and as a Sept. 18 CNBC report postulates, this option could cost as much as $234,000 on top of the car’s base price of $229,100.
“The maker justifies the price by explaining the clock has “the most complex of watch mechanisms,” explained their article. “That means a mechanical, rather than electrical, self-winding mechanism. That’s easy to operate when you’re wearing one on your wrist, but to ensure the Mulliner Tourbillon stays wound on the dashboard, Bentley will build in an unusual mechanism that will spin the clock around three times every 15 minutes.”
Not only is the movement itself incredibly complex, but the materials from which this clock is crafted are the finest the world has to offer.
“This masterpiece is machined in solid gold (customers can select from either rose or white gold), with a choice of either a mother-of-pearl or black ebony face and decorated with eight diamond indexes,” describes the Bentayga’s microsite.
