Bentley Motors, the iconic British automotive manufacturer known for luxury and elegance, is taking another step forward in its commitment to sustainability. With the introduction of the first fully organic Olive Tan Leather option, Bentley showcases a focus on both quality and ecological responsibility.
The launch of the new Olive Tan Leather will be part of the debut of a new Bentley model, to be revealed at the prestigious Monterey Car Week in California on August 18, 2023, and it will make for a significant moment for Bentley and the automotive industry as a whole. This organic leather is derived from a by-product of olive oil pressing, demonstrating Bentley’s innovation in crafting luxurious materials that are also environmentally friendly.
The tanning process of this new leather is groundbreaking, free from metals, minerals, and aldehydes. Instead, the process uses wastewater extracted during olive pressing, requiring less water and offering a higher concentration of renewable chemicals. The resulting leather is incredibly soft and upholds the quality expected of Bentley, a world-renowned luxury car brand.
This initiative aligns with Bentley’s ongoing commitment to sustainable leather sourcing. Already known for using leather hides that are traceable and a by-product of the meat industry, Bentley now adds Olive Tan Leather to its sustainable materials portfolio. The company is planning to offer this organic, OMW-derived leather as an option across its product range.
Bentley’s membership in the Leather Working Group (LWG) further reflects the brand’s dedication to sustainability. As the first automotive manufacturer to join this industry body that sets standards for eco-friendly leather manufacturing, Bentley aligns with the trend of promoting greener processes within the automotive industry.
Marc Stang, Technical Expert Leather at Bentley Motors, summed up the ethos by stating, “Leather is an integral component of our car interiors and a prime element in creating Bentley’s signature finish. We remain committed to more sustainable leather sourcing, as well as working on other initiatives to improve our leather supply chain.”
This Olive Tan Leather will be seen for the first time at Monterey Car Week, where the best in automotive luxury, performance, exclusivity, and history converge to celebrate the pinnacle of automotive excellence, reflecting Bentley’s dedication to crafting luxury vehicles that not only provide unmatched elegance but also align with global sustainability efforts.
