Porsche 911 GT3 RS & Taycan Turbo S Set Lap Records At Bu...

Porsche flexes both its electrified and combustion performance muscles. Porsche is one of the most respected purveyors of performance luxury cars, and that’s because of its 75 years of engineering, innovation, and design excellence. Even after three quarters of a century, Porsche has remained at the cutting edge of high tech performance cars, while still staying true to its driver’s car ethos, and the two flagship models that best represent that are the 911 GT3 RS and the Taycan Turbo S. With its ultra-lightweight construction, powerful naturally-aspirated engine, and advanced racing-oriented design, the 911 GT3 RS is the current pinnacle driver-oriented performance car, while the Taycan Turbo S uses peak electric power to deliver exhilarating performance and futuristic technology. While they feature differing approaches to performance, both cars set production car lap records at the Buddh International Circuit in India. The cars were driven by Narain Karthikeyan, India’s first Formula 1 driver, and the record times were certified by Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, India’s motorsport body that partners with the FIA. The GT3 RS, lapping the circuit in 1:59.854, bested the 2019 Porsche 911 GT2 RS driven by the same driver at 2:00.266, earning the new production car lap record for the circuit. Meanwhile, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, at 2:10.313, set a production electric vehicle record for the circuit, as well. These aren’t the only lap records that the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Porsche Taycan Turbo S have to their names. The 911 GT3 RS set a production car lap record in July at Road America with a 2:13.8 lap time, and boasts a 6:49.328 Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time. The Taycan Turbo S set a production electric vehicle lap record at Road Atlanta in 2020 with a 1:33.88 lap time, as well as Australia’s The Bend Motorsport Park at 3:30.344, and set a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 7:33. With high performance expertise in both the electrified and combustion-powered worlds, Porsche continues to prove that its unshakable automotive excellence is well-rounded. Porsche Celebrates 60 Years of the 911 with a Heritage Tour

The tour features seven iconic models and rich cultural experiences. Porsche, the renowned luxury sports car manufacturer, has embarked on a unique journey to celebrate a long and legendary 60 Years of the 911. This iconic event, orchestrated by the Porsche Museum, features a convoy of seven different year models of the 911, traversing through the scenic Rhineland-Palatinate region. The tour is both a celebration of Porsche’s engineering prowess and a cultural odyssey. The Palatinate region, known for its rich cultural heritage and picturesque landscapes, serves as the perfect backdrop for this event. The area is famed for its vineyards, contributing to almost two-thirds of Germany's wine production, and boasts the largest contiguous forest area in the country, the Palatinate Forest. Hambach Castle, a symbol of German democracy and freedom of the press, stands as one of the many historical highlights on this route. This tour is a part of the Porsche Heritage Experience, a cultural initiative by the Porsche Heritage and Museum department. Achim Stejskal, Head of Porsche Heritage and Museum, emphasizes the importance of connecting the past with the future. The tour aims to provide an immersive experience, allowing participants to witness Porsche's heritage and traditions first-hand. After successful ventures in China and Hawaii, bringing this experience to Germany, especially in Porsche's 75th anniversary year and the 911's 60th, seemed fitting. Participants from across the globe, including China, the US, and Sweden, embarked on this journey starting from the historic Hornbach Abbey. The abbey, with its rich monastic history dating back to the year 742, now serves as a unique hotel, blending history with modern luxury. Alexander E. Klein, head of the car collection and the Heritage Experience, highlights the focus of the tour - not just on Porsche cars, but on the creativity and heritage-conservation work of people. The tour features seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites and provides insights into local traditions and crafts. One such example is the visit to Georg Wiedemann’s Weinessiggut Doktorenhof, Germany's smallest vinegar producer, where traditional methods meet modern innovations. An interesting aspect of this tour is the use of synthetic fuel, or eFuels, in all the participating Porsche 911s. This initiative, reflecting Porsche's commitment to sustainability, demonstrates how classic cars can be part of the solution in reducing CO2 emissions. Karl Dums, a Porsche specialist, discusses the potential of eFuels in transforming existing cars into more eco-friendly models. The tour also celebrates local cuisine and offers breathtaking views, like those from the Kalmithaus on the Palatinate Forest's second-highest mountain. The journey concludes in Speyer, home to the magnificent Romanesque imperial cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This Porsche Heritage Experience, blending automotive excellence with cultural richness, not only commemorates the 60th anniversary of the 911 but also showcases Porsche's dedication to preserving and celebrating heritage. It's a testament to the brand's commitment to not just preserving history, but also carrying it forward into the future, making Porsche more than just a car manufacturer, but a custodian of culture and tradition. 2023 Porsche 911 Dakar Arrives As A $222,000 Off-Roading ...

Following months of countless leaks and real-world sightings, Porsche has finally pulled the cover on its latest high-riding creation. It's called the 2023 Porsche 911 Dakar, and it's a factory-built off-roading sports car. Its name pays tribute to the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally, which showcased the first 911 ever to use an all-wheel-drive system. The German carmaker's well-known twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six powers the Dakar and delivers 473 hp and 420 lb-ft, all of which goes to all four wheels via an eight-speed PDK. It'll rocket to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and continue onto a top speed of 150 mph, which is limited thanks to its all-terrain tires. As standard, the Dakar also gets rear-axle steering, engine mounts out of the 911 GT3, and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control. The most significant changes live in its suspension. The Porshe 911 Dakar is 50 mm taller than a base 911 Carrera. However, a standard lift system can raise the car by an additional 30 mm when needed. According to Porsche, the goal was to achieve a ride height and ramp-over angles similar to an SUV. Its tallest mode is only available up to 105 mph, at which point it'll return to its normal ride height. Pirelli developed a new Scorpion All Terrain Plus tire specifically for the Dakar, measuring 245/45 ZR 19 in the front and 295/40 ZR 20 in the rear. These feature a tread pattern that is nine millimeters deep and reinforced sidewalls. Summer tires are also available, but the all-terrain set is standard. To make use of its new equipment, the Dakar employs two new drive modes, Rallye and Off-Road. A new Rallye Launch Control system is available within those two drive modes and allows up to 20 percent wheel spin. The 911 Dakar continues to borrow from the GT3 with a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic hood with large air extractors. Out back, it features a fixed rear spoiler complemented by new flared fenders, rocker panels, and stainless steel elements throughout. Its unique air intakes feature mesh grilles to keep rocks and other small objects out. Porsche offers a roof basket as an optional extra, which features headlights that plug directly into a 12-volt socket on the car's roof. It can carry up to 92lb. However, a roof tent is also available if you'd like to sleep on your off-roading sports car. Inside, the 911 Dakar comes standard with bucket seats and a rear-seat delete. These will feature Race-Tex upholstery as standard with contrasting Shade Green stitching. Porsche also employs lightweight class to keep its weight down, giving this off-roading sports car a curb weight of 3,552, or about the same as a Carrera4 GTS equipped with PDK. An optional Rallye Design Package gives the 911 Dakar a two-tone White and Gentian Blue Metallic exterior, which pays tribute to the 1984 Dakar winning car. The Shade Green finish mentioned earlier is also available as an exterior color and exclusive to the Dakar. Porsche plans to build just 2,500 units of its high-riding sports car, each with a starting price of $222,000 plus a $1,450 delivery fee. The first customer cars will reach dealerships in the Spring of 2023. View All Porsches For Sale Source: Porsche

Porsche GT2 RS 997 vs 991.2

Few cars are as iconic as the Porsche 911. Since 1963, Porsche has produced a bewildering number of different models. The 911 GT2 RS demonstrates just how far the 911 has come. These incredible cars showcase all the power and accessibility that Porsche has to offer. The Porsche 911 997 GT2 RS launched in 2010. It was the flagship for the 2nd half of the 997 chassis. Therefore if you want the proper terminology, tell our dealers you are looking for as the revised 997, or 997.2 Porsche 911 GT2 RS for sale. Its successor, the Porsche 911 991.2 GT2 RS followed in 2017. While the lesser-model cars were replaced in 2011 by the new 991 generations, Porsche would wait until the 2nd phase of to unleash the GT2 RS. That is why these cars are mostly known as 991.2 Porsche 911 GT2 RS for sale. Porsche keeps pushing at the boundaries of automotive technology. Each new generation builds upon the last. But do these incremental changes actually make much difference? 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Both the 997 and 991 had a very short production run - it’s rare to see a new or used Porsche 911 GT2 RS for sale. If you’re considering buying either model, you need a detailed understanding of how the two generations compare. Only 500 examples of the 997 cars were built. A final tally on 991 production numbers will be available once model-year 2019 is completed. What Has Changed? Every time Porsche reveals a revolutionary new flagship, it takes the automotive world by storm. The release of the 991 GT2 RS in 2017 was eagerly anticipated. That is because of the immense changes the Porsche 911 went through since the 997 series. Nothing but a name is all they shared. You must consider that the 997 chassis dates to 2004, so engineers were given a clean slate to design the 991. It has a much stronger chassis without a weight penalty. All of the suspension bushings were traded in for ball-joints, and rear-wheel steering is now standard equipment. 997 GT2 RS Dash 997 GT2 RS Seats Certain elements are unchanged. The ventilated carbon-ceramic brakes remain. The engine, although upgraded, remains a twin-turbocharged water-cooled flat-six. But there are significant developments. Broadly speaking, these include greater confidence in the design and the ambitious implementation of new automotive technology. These upgrades make the 991 a far superior car in terms of looks, comfort, and - most importantly - performance. 2010 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Design With the 997 GT2, Porsche redesigned the rear wing and front lip of the 997 Turbo. The 997 GT2’s rear was particularly striking, with a new bumper design and “shark fin” outlets. The 997 GT2 also prominently displayed a new titanium exhaust. The 991 GT2 RS pushes this distinctive design even further. It has every appearance of a car designed exclusively to win races. 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS For the 991, the taillights have been slimmed and that titanium exhaust has been enlarged. The rear wing is the most notable change in appearance between the 991 and 997. It’s a real attention-grabber. Putting such a large rear wing on a car not primarily designed for motorsports is a bold move from Porsche. But the gamble certainly paid off. 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Specs, Price, Photos & Review The 991 is the slightly larger of the two cars, measuring up at 4,549mm in length, 1,880mm in width, and 1,297mm in height. For comparison, the 997 is 4,469mm long, 1,852mm wide, and 1,285mm high. Despite this increase in size, the standard model of the 991 is only slightly heavier, with a curb weight of 1,470kg compared to the 997’s 1,438kg. 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Engine Engine Both cars house a flat-six twin-turbo engine at the rear, featuring VarioCam Plus. This technology provides continuous valve-timing adjustments to improve how the engine responds on cold starts. The 997 GT2 RS has a 3.6l engine that produces 620 bhp from a maximum power output of 463 kW, and 516 lb-ft of torque. The 3.8l engine inside the 991 GT2 RS pushes the limits even further. The 991 produces 690 bhp - that’s 70 more than the 997, and 553 lb-ft of torque. 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Shifter Transmission One substantial difference between the Porsche 911 997 GT2 RS and the 991 GT2 RS is the transmission. The 997 has a six-speed manual transmission. The 991 is the first in the GT2 range to be fitted with a seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. When Porsche introduced the PDK transmission to the US with the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera, it was optional. The PDK wasn’t made available for the 997 GT2 RS, but for the 991 GT2 RS, it’s the only option. Some drivers would still prefer a manual. But adding the PDK transmission as standard to the 991 was probably inevitable. Managing the increased power from the 991’s torque would be near-impossible with a manual transmission. Plus, the PDK changes gears faster, promotes longevity, and is more fuel-efficient. What’s not to like? 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Weissach Interior Interior It should be no surprise that in the years separating the release of the 997 GT2 RS and the 991 GT2 RS, there’s a significant difference between the interiors. This is most noticeable in the size of the digital display and the quality of the graphics, which are superior in the 991. But not all the improvements can be attributed to technological advancements. The 991’s interior is more spacious, better organized, and more elegant. The upgraded Weissach package also offers carbon fiber upgrades to elements of the interior. Performance All these small changes add up to a big difference in performance. The 997 reaches 60mph in 3.4 seconds. The 991 cuts this down to a mere 2.7 seconds. The 997 has a maximum speed of 205 mph. The 991 also outstrips this, achieving a maximum speed of 211 mph. In September 2017, the 991 GT2 RS broke the record at Nurburgring Nordschleife (the notorious German track known as the “Green Hell”). The 991 smashed the previous record held by the Lamborghini Huracán Performante. Nearly two years later, the 991 still holds the Nurburing throne. Summary Both the 997 and 991 generations of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS are powerful, elegant, and eminently driveable. They’re also extremely rare. Finding a used Porsche 911 GT2 RS for sale could represent a challenge. There’s little to criticize about the older model. At launch, the 997 GT2 RS was one of the best cars that Porsche had ever released. And apart from the somewhat retro-looking interior, the 997 has aged extremely well. But, if you must have the best Porsche has to offer, you know that you’ll choose the 991. If your budget allows it, and you can find a Porsche 911 991 GT2 RS for sale, it’s a worthy upgrade.
