From 1953 to 1972, the Vernasca Silver Flag was an uphill speed race from Castell’Arquato to Vernasca in Italy’s alpine region. Today, the race is dedicated to classic cars, honoring tradition, and preserving motorsport history. From June 9 to June 11, the race will run its 27th edition, and Maserati will be featured prominently at the festivities. Known for a history of making beautiful, powerful, and luxurious machines, Maserati is lining up four of its vintage masterpieces on display, which will also take part in the legendary hillclimb.
One of just four 1953 Maserati A6GCS-53 Berlinetta Pininfarina cars will be taking to the route, a car that bridged the gap between race cars and road cars with 170 horsepower and a 146-mph top speed. In addition, a 1949 Tipo A6-1500 GranTurismo will be there, one of just 58 produced. A racing legend, the 1961 Maserati Birdcage Tipo will be in attendance, which is one of 17, and a 2001 Tipo 320 S will be there as well, with a twin-turbocharged 3.2-liter V8 capable of 370 horsepower and a top speed in the realm of 180 mph.
Maserati won’t be bringing only its historic models, as they will be “escorted” at the event by the new Maserati GranTurismo and Maserati Grecale, which will be provided for test drives by TridenteClub, showing off not just Maserati’s glorious past, but its present and the potential for an amazing future.
