Maserati Plans To Unveil A New Supercar During Monterey Car Week

Monterey Car Week, slated to run from August 14th through the 19th, is just around the corner. Almost all major automakers have begun unveiling or teasing what they plan to announce during the historic week of events. Maserati is the latest to share an image of its upcoming product, a "super sports car" expected to be " a further evolution of the MC20."

As this latest supercar is expected to be either a variant of or a successor to the MC20, it won't be surprising to learn that it'll count on the brand's Nettuno V6 engine for power. How much it'll produce remains unknown. However, Trident states that the inspiration for this new model comes from the GT2 racer, implying we may see a more hardcore track-focused take on the brand's halo car.

While the original image provided by Maserati gives us only a glimpse of the upcoming model, showcasing a vented front fender and hood alongside a carbon fiber A-pillar, brightening the photo grants us a clearer look. While its headlights seem to carry over from the current MC20, it's adorned with a new front bumper and an extensive carbon fiber splitter. Other elements, such as its door design, appear to remain unchanged.

Thankfully, we won't have to wait long for the full reveal. Maserati plans to pull the covers off its latest creation on Friday, August 16th, at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. It'll debut alongside the MC20 Icona, a special edition built to pay homage to the legendary MC12 Stradale and its racing counterpart, the MCXtrema.
