The Radford Type 62-2 Pikes Peak Special Edition roared into history books on this past weekend at the 101st running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Piloted by the seasoned race car driver and previous Pikes Peak champion, Tanner Foust, the vehicle not only won the Exhibition Class but also made a statement by achieving a sub-ten-minute time, a feat previously untouched by Foust.
Radford's triumph was backed by a captivating engineering spectacle. The Type 62-2 Pikes Peak Edition, boasting a 710HP supercharged 3.5L V6 DOHC engine, sprinted from 0-60 mph in less than 2.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 160 mph. Complementing the powerhouse was a featherweight dry body of just 1,898 pounds, achieved via a full carbon composite monocoque. Apart from the engine, the Radford race version flaunted extensive modifications. New underbody design, subframes, suspension, a wider body, and a new rear aero and diffuser worked in harmony to deliver an outstanding performance on the challenging Pikes Peak terrain.
The Pikes Peak triumph serves as a testament to Radford's performance car design and engineering capabilities, demonstrating a synergistic blend of power, speed, and cutting-edge technology. As the victorious Type 62-2 Pikes Peak Edition moves on to its next challenge at the NASCAR Chicago Street Race on 1-2 July 2023, it carries with it the momentum and prestige of a resounding success.
