Lotus Teases Two New Cars and an SUV

Known for building small & nimble sports cars, Lotus is on the verge of a major revival. In an interview with England's CAR magazine, CEO Jean-Marc Gales spilled the beans on exciting new models. First will be two new sports cars, and the duo will be their first new offerings since the launch of the Evora.Lighter, Faster, & Stronger: Lotus Unveils the Exige 380He mentioned the less-expensive model will rely on their existing aluminum chassis because: "It’s still a benchmark for lightweight, crash resistance and longevity". CAR then alludes to a carbon fiber chassis, not unlike those used by McLaren. Lotus has recently come under the control of Chinese auto giant Geely motors. Among their other brands is Volvo, so these upcoming models might finally move away from the Toyota V6.Finally, Gales confirmed that a Lotus SUV is in the works. We're not sure how Colin Chapman would feel about this, so let's hope it is the lightest & most nimble utility ever built. Lotus Unveils 007 Inspired Evora Sport 410

In times of need, MI6 has built some amazing vehicles for Agent 007. One of the most memorable was the 1977 Lotus Esprit S1 from The Spy Who Loved Me. Before the rise of computer powered special effects, it took full size models to make a film. So the producers started with regular production examples and built real submarines from them. Roger Moore was not behind the wheel under water because the cockpit was filled by a retired Navy Seal with a few scuba tanks. Elon Musk bought the last surviving example, so its either going ludicrous mode or going to mars. For the 40th anniversary of the film, Lotus has released a special edition of the Evora Sport 410, complete with a paint scheme and interior inspired by the movie. The Evora Sport 410 debuted last year, arriving with a 3.5 liter V6 topped by a giant Edelbrock supercharger. What could be better than a British coupe motivated by the most iconic name in hot rodding? The combination yields 410 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque in a car that only weighs 2,900 lbs. Oh, that's just an Evora, until it blows your doors off reaching 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. I have never considered owning a Lotus before, because none have offered such a brutal power to weight ratio. Only 150 examples are planned for 2017, so browse our listings to find a dealer near you. All Lotus Evora For Sale

Lighter, Faster, & Stronger: Lotus Unveils the Exige 380

If you have a need for a sporty 2-seater, Lotus has the car for you. The Exige S has had a V6 engine since 2012. Toyota supplies the 3.5-liter design which is a great match for the light & nimble aluminum chassis. But for those who want the ultimate in handling with a better power to weight ratio than almost anything on the road, the Exige 380 is an engineering marvel. Borrowing the supercharger from the Evora 400, the Exige 380 is the most powerful example to date. A smaller supercharger pulley spins the blower faster, forcing more boost into the intake. New exhaust is titanium from the engine, to tailpipes, and shaves 10 lbs of weight. Extensive use of carbon fiber along with a lithium battery makes for a dry weight of only 2,350 lbs. (Related - Lotus Evora 400 With Fan Inspired Livery) Let that sink in...Lotus is building a 375 hp car with 302 lb-ft of torque, and it weighs over 1,000 lbs less than your daily driver. This is made possible by staying true to their core beliefs. You won't find power steering, lane-keeping assist, or massaging seats. You will have a new six-speed manual transmission with an integrated oil cooler. It is controlled by a beautiful sequential shifter that is exposed on the center console. With more extensive use of carbon fiber in the body panels, these enhancements have shaved 55 lbs from the curb weight. Sixty mph arrives in 3.5 seconds on your way to a top speed of 178. Fuel mileage approaches 20 mpg for the six-speed and 21.1 for the automatic version. Pricing is expected to start just under $95,000, making it very competitive in the market for compact track cars. As soon as US availability is confirmed you will see it first here on Autofluence.

Lotus Evora 400 With Fan Inspired Livery

To celebrate a half-century building cars at their Hethel factory, Lotus turned to social media for inspiration. Fans around the world dug into the history books to resurrect a famous livery of the 1960's. The blue & orange Evora 400 will be a limited run to showcase the abilities of the Lotus Exclusive Programme. Not limited to the exterior, Lotus enthusiasts chose orange contrast stitching for the black leather interior. Black forged wheels along with black calipers are just a few of the additional features of the build. The designers at Lotus offered several cars for inspiration on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and the results speak for themselves. Aside from being the world's first crowd-sourced paint scheme, the Evora 400 is a potent performer. Reaching 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, it makes use of a supercharged & mid-mounted 3.5L V6 . Cosworth worked their magic to produce 400 hp and 302 lb-ft, and given a curb weight of 3,075 lbs it makes for incredible agility. Air conditioning is an option, along with a six-speed automatic transmission. Only 10 cars will be produced with these colors, so let's hope they are all left-hand drive!
