Mecum Auctions is bringing its world-famous collector car auction into the gaming world through a new partnership with Sunday Car Club inside Fortnite. The collaboration welcomes a virtual Mecum auction within Sunday Car Club’s Fortnite Island, allowing players to buy and sell digital vehicles through a system modeled after live auctions.
It’s one of the first large-scale attempts to recreate the traditional collector-car auction experience within a multiplayer video game. With Fortnite reporting more than 650 million registered players globally, the partnership also puts Mecum in front of a significantly younger, more digitally connected audience than the traditional auction world typically reaches.
The virtual experience mirrors Mecum’s real-world auction process. Auctions will take place every 30 minutes inside the island’s downtown hub, where vehicles cross the company’s signature red carpet before stopping on a rotating stage for bidding. Players can consign virtual vehicles directly to the auction, starting an in-game transport scene where a Mecum-branded hauler arrives to collect and deliver the vehicle to the sale.
The game will also showcase exclusive digital vehicles available only through the virtual auction house. The launch aligns with Dana Mecum’s 39th Original Spring Classic in Indianapolis, where 2,500 collector cars are expected to cross the block during the nine-day event. Mecum says select vehicles from the live auction will also appear inside the Fortnite experience, creating a connection between the on-site and digital sales.
