Combining ultra-luxury with sustainability and futuristic thinking in the automotive world, Bentley Motors has spent the past few years radically transforming its century-old brand, introducing electrified models that take an innovative approach to luxury and performance, while also celebrating purist-focused performance, bespoke design, artisan craftsmanship, and opulent materials. Currently, Bentley’s three production models are the Continental GT/GTC, the Bentayga, and the Flying Spur, but Bentley has teased a BEV model that will be joining them later this year.
That electric vehicle now has a name, and it’s the Torcal, which will be fully revealed on September 23 in London. The name draws inspiration from El Torcal de Antequera, which is a gorgeous limestone landscape and one of the most iconic natural landmarks in Spain’s Andalusia region. Its stacked rocks and cliffs are the result of millions of years of natural formation, and the name continues a convention set by the Bentayga, Bacalar, and Batur, which are all named after natural wonders across the globe.
In addition to being named after a natural beauty, the Latin word “torquere,” which means “to twist,” is also an inspiration for the name. The Latin word is also part of the etymology of the modern word “torque,” giving the name an automotive facet, as well. As the date of the full reveal approaches, Bentley Motors will unveil more details about the upcoming Torcal.
Coming after an impressive 107 years of Bentley innovation, the new Torcal promises to be a new concept that introduces bold innovation, while remaining true to Bentley’s timeless principles of craftsmanship and automotive ultra-luxury. With over a century of history and prestige, Bentley’s upcoming new model is certainly one of the most highly anticipated luxury vehicles today.
