While it may not look like the car has undergone an overhaul, trust me when I say it has. The new updates to the model were detailed in a press release issued today by BMW.
The biggest change made to the car is that the rear-wheel-drive platform of the outgoing X1 has been replaced with architecture shared with the mini for the 2016 model. The position of the front/transverse-mounted four-cylinder engine allows for more cabin and cargo room. Below are the specific increased measurements.
- + 1-inch in possible front seat height
- + 2-inches in possible rear seat height
- + 1.5-inches in rear legroom
- +2.6-inches in rear legroom with option adjustable rear seat

At launch, the 2016 X1 xDrive28i will be available with an all-new 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo. This engine produces 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds.
The new 2016 BMW X1 will be available in US showrooms fall of this year. Be sure to check your local BMW dealership for availability.
