McLaren W1 First Drive: Ferocious Hypercar Transcends the Track

You know things are getting serious when McLaren rolls-out the ‘1’ suffix. The origin story is, of course, the very first road car McLaren ever built, the F1. Designed by visionary Formula 1 aerodynamicist and engineer Gordon Murray, it arrived in 1992 and rendered all other supercars obsolete. The tiny, lightweight F1 embraced carbon-fibre material technology, adopted a radical centre seat driving position with two passengers set back and either side and was powered by a 6.1-litre V12 engine from BMW that might as well have been passed down directly from the Gods. Game-changer? That doesn’t even come close to describing its impact, even if at the time sales didn’t come easy… The P1 was very different. Rather than a unique side project from the Formula 1 team, it was instead a statement piece for McLaren Automotive, a new road car division still in its infancy. It arrived in 2013 and was a wild-eyed showstopper. It traded the long-legged gait and supple suspension of the F1 for a weaponized hybrid system capable of delivering 903bhp and huge blue flames from its drainpipe exhaust. In Race mode, it lowered by 2-inches and its massive concave rear wing extended into the sky. The P1 was all about aerodynamic downforce, crazed acceleration and a snorting, angry soundtrack that mixed venomous twin-turbocharged V8 with the manic whirr of electric motors. Not so much a car as a force of nature. And now there’s this: The W1. It’s a true successor to the P1 with a similar brief and, on the face of it, it evolves rather than radically reinvents McLaren’s vision for the ultimate hypercar. This is not a criticism. How could it be when the result is this dramatic and has such staggering, other-worldly potential? The W1 has 1258bhp delivered to the rear wheels. It’s capable of 0-124 mph in 5.8-seconds, the quarter mile in 9.6-seconds at 167 mph and produces 2205lbs of downforce at 174 mph. The active aerodynamics – particularly a rear wing that extends way out beyond the rear of the car – are pure performance art and deliver massive aerodynamic efficiency. The result, aside from looking extremely cool, is that the W1 is McLaren’s fastest road car around a racetrack. Ever. Their benchmark circuit is the breath-taking Handling Track at the Nardo proving ground in southern Italy, where the W1 beats their previous benchmark, the flyweight McLaren Senna, by three seconds per lap. Or “a lifetime” as they call it in racing. Maybe two lifetimes! Core to the W1’s performance is the new ‘Aerocell’ carbon fibre tub. With integrated seats and a raised footwell to allow for inboard pushrod-operated front suspension – which in turn gives air a clean path to the huge underbody diffuser – it’s light, stiff, space efficient and has been instrumental in McLaren realising a full ground-effect concept. Just like last year’s F1 cars, which were the fastest ever made. There is also an active front wing and the aforementioned complex rear wing dubbed ‘Active Long Tail’. All of which is very admirable. But the ‘anhedral’ or gullwing doors and the fantastically shirnked-wrapped feel to the minimalist, highly-focussed interior are a pretty good side effect. The W1 feels special. Those fixed seats are perhaps a shade more upright than expected, and the driving position is less obviously racecar than, for example, the Aston Martin Valhalla or Ferrari F80. However, once you’ve adjusted the pedals (they move on a slider) and the delicate, slim-rimmed and alcantara-trimmed steering wheel, there’s an overwhelming sense of purpose. The cabin is so tightly tailored and imparts a sense of lightness and agility before you so much as start the all-new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which makes 916bhp all on its own and revs to 9200rpm. Reach up to a roof-mounted control panel to find the starter button. Maybe this fighter plane trope is a little corny, but somehow you feel thrilled rather than manipulated. The W1 has a sense of humour as well as all that motorsport-derived sophistication. There’s a short delay, but when the engine does fire it’s instant – as the high-powered hybrid system negates the need for an old-school starter motor. A sharp flare of revs tells you that this engine is hyper-responsive and angry. On some deep level your brain and body have been sent all the signals required to prepare for something new and intense. Ahead of us, an empty Mugello racetrack, so press and hold the blue button next to the red starter to select Race mode. The centre display graphic shows the W1’s transformation in real time as it lowers by 37mm at the front and 17mm at the rear whilst simultaneously undocking all that active aero goodness. Race mode is not road legal and is geo-locked. You can show your friends and neighbours the aero dance, but it won’t allow you to select a gear to actually drive unless you’re at a circuit. Incidentally, the rocker switches either side of the display binnacle allow further options now: Toggle up the Handling control on the left for Race+ (for F1-spec super smooth tracks) or stick to Race for gnarlier ones. On the right toggle select ‘GP’ for sustained performance over a stint or ‘Sprint’ to unleash all 1258bhp for a time attack. There’s also a DRS and Boost function on the steering wheel. But I guarantee you won’t have the mental capacity to use them… Exit the pitlane, pin the throttle and W1 takes maybe a millisecond or two to gather its might (the gearing stretches to around 60mph in first, nearly 100mph in second, primarily to aid traction), but then lunges at the first turn with incredible ferocity. It instantly feels light, almost like inertia is no longer a thing. McLaren really does prize lightweight engineering, and at 3084lbs (dry) the W1 has a 278lbs advantage over the Ferrari F80. Plus, Ferrari uses figures for cars fitted with every single carbon fibre option. In reality, the gap is probably wider still. The impression of agility and stunning control continues as the track is unravelled at startling pace. The electric motor mounted to the side of the new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission is good for 342bhp and 324lb ft and it boosts any low rev lethargy the new flat-plane crank V8 might have (spoiler alert: It doesn’t appear to have any), so the W1 just feels massively, almost impossibly powerful at any revs. Even so, there’s real reward for wringing it out to 9200rpm and the power curve feels superheated but organic, too. In Race mode the steering – still hydraulically powered – has less assistance and it is noticeably heavier than other McLarens. However, that resistance is welcome as it gives you something to push against and imparts so much information about the front grip level. New Pirelli Trofeo RS tyres with a bigger front footprint than P1 or Senna really help. The front-end feels incredibly secure and the rear-axle follows with perfectly-aligned precision. The whole car feels super-stiff, completely locked into the surface and inspires confidence, but there’s an inherent agility and adjustability that means you’re quickly confident to push at its limits and really impose yourself on the chassis. It’s such a complex car but the driving experience is intuitive, and the driver feels a key contributor rather than just amazed (or terrified) observer, holding on for dear life. Every dynamic ingredient really is shockingly effective and yet has a subtlety and lightness of touch. From that delicious steering to the incredible brakes, the W1 just feels so mission-focussed, so hooked-up. Only the new 8-speed gearbox is a slightly disappointment. It’s fast and punchy, but after the scintillating energy of the Ferrari F80 ’box it feels competent rather than inspired. Other quibbles – it’s okay to quibble when the starting price is $2.1-million before tax and destination charge. Well, that new twin-turbocharged V8 sounds tightly wound and aggressive but if you have a P1 tucked in the garage you’ll miss the snorting, Darth Vader-style soundscape and all the drama that goes with it. Ferrari does this better, too. The F80 sounds deathly dull from the outside but is a riot of turbochargers, electric motors and all sorts of mechanical fury within the cockpit. Even so, the W1 is wildly entertaining on track, and the rear-drive configuration makes it more of a challenge and more satisfying than the F80 when chasing lap times or just sliding around for fun. In the Ferrari, you must second-guess what the front e-axle might do, whereas in the W1 it’s all on you. There are plenty of tools to help, including the ingenious Variable Drift Control, but somehow the W1 is more heroic. Or at least fools you into feeling more heroic – which is surely the point! On the road? Nimble, loaded with feel and sublime response. The ride is noticeably tougher than, say, a 750S but the control is ramped-up too, and with a bit more speed the whole car finds a delicious rhythm. Sport mode for the drivetrain brings some nice turbo whooshes and chirps, but the noise remains high-quality rather than extreme excitement. It is perhaps the one area the W1 feels just a little too tame. Of course, there’s nothing tame about the raw performance… which is genuinely shocking and literally hurts your neck muscles after a few hours. How McLaren has given the W1 such immense traction through just two driven wheels is beyond me. So, is it worthy of that ‘1’? I think so. Perhaps we won’t be talking about $25-million auction results for the W1 in 30 years from now, as we are for the F1. Perhaps it doesn’t quite have the amazing presence and jaw-dropping star quality of the simply gorgeous P1. But it is such an intense experience and the way it marries stunning track performance with delicate poise and entertainment on normal roads is something akin to magic. Maybe not ‘the one’ but definitely a searing, outrageous addition to McLaren’s fiercest family line. Just 399 W1’s will be built and they’re all sold. I’m not surprised at all. Bugatti honors 20 years of the Veyron with Le Petit Tour Alsace and the Bugatti Festival in Molsheim. This past weekend in Molsheim, Bugatti's hometown, once again became the stage for honoring both the birthday of founder Ettore Bugatti and the 20th anniversary of the car that changed the hypercar world forever, the Bugatti Veyron. Widely considered the world's first true hypercar, the Veyron set a new standard in the automotive world when it launched back in 2005. Two decades later, the legacy still holds strong, and Bugatti celebrated the milestone with Le Petit Tour Alsace, a special gathering of Veyron owners and enthusiasts during the annual Bugatti Festival. The weekend offered owners a chance to celebrate their prized possessions and the shared passion and community that has grown with the brand. With just 450 examples ever produced, each car carries its own history, and in many ways, gathering them together in Bugatti's birthplace highlighted their individuality as a collective legacy. From the Orangerie banquet at Château Saint Jean to private receptions in the region's finest estates, the entire experience showcased Bugatti's love for its creations. Owners set off on a rally through the Alsatian countryside, unleashing their 1,001-horsepower Veyrons through the Vosges mountains and onto winding roads surrounded by forests and villages. Stops included Château de Haut Barr, offering a breathtaking view known as the "Eye of Alsace," and Villa René Lalique, a location with ties to Bugatti's history. It really was the perfect backdrop for the Veyron. The Veyron convoy joined the Bugatti Festival in Molsheim, where the sounds of quad-turbo W16 engines echoed through the historic town streets. Crowds gathered to witness the rare sight of so many Veyrons together, each one a reminder of how Bugatti transformed performance for the modern era. What could possibly stop you in your tracks at a highly exclusive concours event, already packed with some pretty stunning automobiles? Well, at last month’s Monterey Car Week, something along the lines of a stand-out mysterious one-off Bugatti, that the French marque had been teasing in the weeks leading up to its reveal. Our cameras were on site in Sunny California, to catch the official unveiling of the Bugatti Brouillard at the Quail. Now, in its latest appearance, this coach-built Bugatti was present at the Mariënwaerdt Estate in the Netherlands, making its European debut. Now part of the Dutch Perridon Collection, the Brouillard sat alongside 30 highly coveted vintage and classic Bugattis like the Type 57, Stelvio, Galibier, and Ventoux, just to name a few. Finished in a striking shade of green, it was still able to stand out owing to a body shaped primarily for aerodynamics as much as design. Visually, you have a hint of Tourbillon with the bigger horseshoe grille and the Mistral-like headlights. Other highlights include the glass roof, the fixed wing and the quad-exhaust pipes reminiscent of the longtail Chiron Super Sport. But Bugatti claims every surface is functional, designed to balance drag and downforce, which is something that you generally expect from its track-focused specials like the Bolide, making it unusual in a bespoke commission. Now, Bugatti is primarily using the Brouillard to launch Programme Solitaire, its personalization service that pushes beyond its existing Sur Mesure program. Founder Ettore Bugatti’s work often blurred the lines between mechanical engineering and fine art. He was also passionate about horse racing, and the Brouillard is named after his favorite horse. This one-off creation leans into that heritage and philosophy with exquisite details that go far deeper than just two-tone paint and trim. For instance, you have custom components like the gear selector, which carries a miniature horse sculpture, while equine motifs are woven into Parisian fabrics across the seats. Underneath, the Brouillard, as with any Bugatti, does not compromise on performance. Although the next-gen hybridized V16 that made its debut on the Tourbillon last year already exists, Bugatti decided to stick with the tried-and-tested Piëch-era 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 that’s been doing duty since the original Veyron, which in this application puts out 1,600 metric horsepower. That means a top speed north of 260 mph remains on the table. Even if the Brouillard’s primary purpose is more of a cultural statement in the automotive world. This raises questions about where Bugatti is headed. Is the Brouillard a test case for personalization as a new tier of exclusivity, or the beginning of a more formal return to coachbuilding? If you follow hypercars closely, you know how much value unique commissions carry in the long term. The Brouillard is a bridge, tying Bugatti’s golden-era past with its present, and raising the ceiling for what future projects might entail. Bugatti Honors Veyron’s 20-Year Legacy With A Special Logo

Bugatti’s latest tribute to the Veyron for its 20th anniversary turned out not to be another 1,800-horsepower special, a six-figure watch, or even another piece of extravagant lifestyle merchandise. Instead, it’s a logo. Unveiled at the 2025 Bugatti Festival in Molsheim that concluded yesterday, the “20 Years of Veyron” emblem features the French tricolore woven into the number 20 alongside the signature of Pierre Veyron, the gentleman racer who won the 1939 24 Hours of Le Mans for the marque. It’s a restrained celebration by Bugatti standards, where Visitors to the Parc des Jésuites were treated to a diverse lineup of historic and modern Bugattis, capped with a parade through Molsheim. The timing wasn’t accidental; as today, the 15th of September would have also marked Ettore Bugatti’s 144th birthday. But there's a lot to the Veyron story, and you'll have to look back at some of our earlier coverage to get the big picture. Earlier this year, we documented the story of the record-breaking Veyron on Ferdinand Piëch’s 88th birthday in April. Piëch, grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, personally drove Volkswagen Group’s acquisition of Bugatti in the 1990s, and demanded a car that would reset the limits of engineering. We explored the humble beginnings of the quad-turbocharged W16 engine, why Bugatti chose to honor Pierre Veyron with the name of the world’s fastest production car, and how design concept studies like the EB 118, EB 218, EB 18/3 Chiron, and EB 18/4 Veyron paved the way for the final production version that changed the hypercar landscape forever. The path to the 2005 debut was anything but straightforward. In 1997, Piëch sketched an 18-cylinder engine on the back of an envelope while riding a train in Japan. That doodle inspired five Bugatti concepts, starting with the aforementioned EB 118 grand tourer unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1998. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the EB 118 utilized a 555-horsepower W18 engine. The EB 218 sedan followed in Geneva, then the EB 18/3 Chiron at Frankfurt, and the EB 18/4 Veyron in Tokyo. Each iteration edged closer to reality, but the final production car arrived with a completely reworked 8.0-liter W16, a powerplant whose reign only ended with the Mistral and all-wheel drive. When the Veyron finally debuted in 2005, the numbers seemed otherworldly. The 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W16 famously delivered 1,001 metric horsepower (987 hp U.S.) and a verified 253 mph top speed. That run, conducted at VW’s Ehra-Lessien test track with Le Mans winner Andy Wallace at the wheel, marked the end of the McLaren F1’s decade-long reign as the world's fastest production car. At roughly $1.25 million a piece and nearly $2 billion in development costs, the Veyron was not a business case; it was Ferdinand Piëch’s attempt at it, cementing Bugatti’s place at the top of the performance hierarchy. Over the Veyron's 10-year-long production run, 450 examples were produced at the Molseihm facility, across several variants and special editions. Bugatti’s low-key tribute this year, just a logo, a parade, and a festival, feels almost modest for a brand built on spectacle. But maybe that’s the point. '90s Hypercar Royalty: 1-of-39 Bugatti EB110 SS Hits The ...

Given how it set several world records at the time, including one for the fastest production car in the world, the Bugatti EB110 has got to be one of the most underrated and technologically advanced exotic cars of the 1990s. This particular Super Sport or SS example from 1994, with just 981 miles on the clock, is currently available through Miller Motorcars in Greenwich, Connecticut. Offered in a striking yellow over black wheels with a black interior, #ZA9BB02E0RCD39024, it represents a rare opportunity to acquire something that, in today’s collector car market, captures the bold vision of Romano Artioli’s revived Bugatti Automobili S.p.A. Long before the Ferdinand Pïech led Volkswagen era gave us the W16 Veyron and Chiron, the EB110 was the daring Italian-led rebirth of the French marque. The car’s name honored Ettore Bugatti’s 110th birthday when it debuted in September 1991, and its unveiling was as extravagant as the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that built it in Campogalliano, in the heart of the Italian Motor Valley. The launch event stretched out across Paris and Versailles, complete with vintage Bugattis, a motorcade down the Champs Élysées leading up to the Arc de Triomphe, and thousands of guests in attendance for a grand gala dinner in the French capital. Bugatti wanted to announce it was back on the world stage. Engineering made the EB110 more than just a headline spectacle. Under the hood sits a 3.5-liter V12 with four turbochargers, five valves per cylinder, and gear-driven camshafts often seen in motorsports, that pair with a six-speed manual gearbox. V12-manuals remain a niche market even today. The carbon-fiber monocoque, which only weighed 276 pounds, was supplied by French aerospace firm Aérospatiale, making it the first all-carbon production supercar. Standard all-wheel drive delivered 73 percent of power to the rear wheels, giving it stability without sacrificing handling. Period tests recorded 0 to 60 mph in about 3.4 seconds, which made it quicker than a Ferrari F40 or Lamborghini Diablo, with a top speed north of 200 mph. Officially, the Super Sport variant was rated at 218 mph and achieved a Nürburgring lap time of 7:47. This was in the mid-1990s, a figure that nearly matched the Veyron over a decade later. At one point, the EB 110 SS even held the title of the world’s fastest production car, before the McLaren F1 beat it with 240.8 mph. Ironically, Bugatti would reclaim that record a decade later, when the Veyron pushed the benchmark to 253 mph. Production numbers vary, but according to Bugatti themselves, 134 EB110s were built in total between 1991 and 1995, split between prototypes, GTs, and 39 Super Sports variants. The SS shaved 300 pounds through carbon fiber panels, magnesium wheels, and fixed composite seats, while boosting output from 553 horsepower to 603. Visual changes included the large, distinctive cooling portholes (five on each side, also seen more recently on the Centodeici), a fixed rear wing, and Recaro seating, compared with the GT’s more luxurious trim. For any collector, originality and specification weigh heavily on value. Color plays a role in desirability as well. Most EB110s were delivered in Bugatti Blue, white, silver, or black, making the few yellow examples that exist especially rare. But yellow EB110 Super Sports are particularly prized, especially since Michael Schumacher purchased one in 1994 during his Benetton Formula One tenure. While he would eventually sell his car after signing with Ferrari, that association elevated the EB110’s long-term desirability. Valuations reflect that rarity, and for years, the EB110 was overshadowed by the McLaren F1 and Ferrari F50, but prices have surged in the last decade. GTs trade between $1.5 million and $2.2 million, while Super Sports regularly exceed $3.0 million, with the best examples pushing beyond $4.0 million. Keep in mind that maintenance requires specialists, and annual service can easily reach five figures. The EB110’s story is often described as tragic, given Bugatti’s collapse in 1995, which Artioli partly attributed to supplier sabotage. Having said that, it serves as a bridge between old-world craftsmanship and modern hypercar engineering. Owning one today, especially a yellow example like the one seen here, with fewer than 1,000 miles, means you will have a tangible piece of Bugatti’s modern renaissance, and an Italian-built exotic hypercar that set the stage for everything that would follow. Bugatti La Maison Pur Sang Certifies Its First EB110 America

Bugatti celebrates the legacy of the EB110 with La Maison Pur Sang. The La Maison Pur Sang program, first established in 2020, is an authentication program dedicated to helping preserve the rich history of Bugatti’s incredible vehicles by providing customers with a comprehensive lifetime record, ensuring a vehicle’s value, and telling its rich story. This was the case for one of Bugatti’s rarest supercars, the EB110 America, which was just certified by La Maison Pur Sang for the first time as the result of a painstaking effort to trace the authenticity of the car by Bugatti’s specialist teams. The EB110 America had characteristics of both the EB110 SS and the EB110 GT, offering the driver elevated performance and grand touring-ready comfort. To tell the full story of the specific example that was authenticated, Bugatti’s team found order records, servicing documents, road test certificates, assembly logs, and plenty of other documents that help ascertain its complete originality, including its chassis, bodywork, and cockpit. Its certification from La Maison Pur Sang is a badge of honor and a testament to its incredible heritage. This specific example of the EB110 America was made as a development car for the model. It was brought to North America after being made in Campogalliano, Italy, to serve as a demonstrator. There, it earned the Concorso Italiano’s People’s Choice Award and appeared at the Chicago Auto Show in 1995. Its first independent owner was Romano Artioli, the man behind the Bugatti of the ‘90s. Artioli elected to change the paintwork from Grigio Chiaro to Bugatti Blu in 2007, and the second owner, a UK collector, acquired the car in 2013. Then, it would go on to be showcased at events like Salon Privé, and it even made an appearance on The Grand Tour. More recently, the car’s third owner reunited it with Romano Artioli and brought it alongside the new Bugatti Centodieci, a limited-run hypercar inspired by the EB110. Bugatti is gearing up for the new Tourbillon. With the beloved Chiron ending production and the final configurations being delivered to customers worldwide, Bugatti is now making the transition at its Molsheim headquarters to accommodate its next generation of hypercar, the Tourbillon. And while prepping the factory for a whole new caliber of cars proves to be an exciting moment for the brand, nothing can officially kick off until future Tourbillon owners wrap up and submit their configurations and personalization options. Today, Bugatti is proud to announce bespoke one-on-one configuration sessions with clients and reveal that the Tourbillon will feature the option for an all-new 'Équipe Pur Sang' package. Loosely translating to "Thoroughbred Team" in English, the package pays homage to Bugatti's historic involvement in racing with visual upgrades for both the exterior and interior. And while the price of 'Équipe Pur Sang' is unknown for now, it surely won't be an issue for the 250 Bugatti owners who have already locked in the orders for the $4 million Tourbillon. The package features a dedicated front splitter and a bespoke rear wing that help improve aerodynamics and downforce. An 8-pipe exhaust system and a custom rear diffuser enhance airflow while giving the Tourbillon an even more aggressive stance. Special directional wheels are also part of the package, designed to reduce turbulence and boost airflow to the rear radiator by up to 8% for even more cooling. One-off Bugatti Brouillard W16 Makes Its First Public App...

At the Quail this morning, Bugatti took the wraps off its one-of-one Brouillard, a coachbuilt hypercar that combines modern W16 firepower with deeply personal heritage cues. It’s the first public appearance for the bespoke build, which broke cover about 10 days ago after a series of mysterious teasers that we reported on. CEO of Bugatti Rimac, Mate Rimac, was on site to personally present the car to an ecstatic crowd. The Brouillard marks the debut of Bugatti’s Programme Solitaire, a new tier of customization that sits above the brand’s already extreme Sur Mesure offerings. The primary goal is to channel the same spirit of models like the iconic Type 57’s most coveted coachbuilt variants: the Galibier, Stelvio, Ventoux, and Atalante, through the lens of 21st-century engineering. Bugatti says that it will only produce up to two Solitaire cars per year, each built around existing powertrains and chassis, but wrapped in entirely bespoke bodywork and interiors. This stunning green example is named after Ettore Bugatti’s prized white-and-gray thoroughbred. Renowned for its speed and a surprising ability to open its stable door using a mechanism Ettore designed, the equestrian connection runs deep in the Brouillard. Inside, you’ll find embroidered horse motifs, a miniature sculpture of the thoroughbred in the gear selector, and tartan fabrics that contrast with green-tinted carbon fiber, sourced from Paris. The glass roof floods the cabin with light, amplifying the already dramatic cabin. Outside, the Brouillard trades the Chiron’s rounded tail for a much sharper coupé silhouette with a fixed ducktail spoiler, sculpted air intakes, and a sweeping roofline. The overall form is both functional and beautiful, with aerodynamics designed to channel and feed air to the W16’s massive cooling needs. Yes, that legendary Piëch-era W16, which has been doing duty since the days of the Veyron. Despite Bugatti’s recent Rimac partnership and the debut of its hybrid V16-powered Tourbillon, the Brouillard features the marque’s celebrated 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged 16-cylinder uni, which puts out 1,600 horsepower. This hypercar is part of the last wave of W16-powered Bugattis, sitting alongside other ultra-limited farewell models. The timing is important because Bugatti has entered a new era, merging with Rimac and shifting toward hybrid power. The Tourbillon is already making headlines for its naturally aspirated V16 and electric assistance, but the Brouillard proves that the W16’s final chapter is being written with the same level of passion that has defined the French marque for more than a century. So here’s the question: if Solitaire lets clients dream up exquisite machines like the Brouillard, how far could Bugatti push this idea? No word on the price, but given that this is a one-off, something in the eight figures cannot be ruled out. Having said that, as a proof of concept, the Brouillard shows that in an extremely crowded hypercar market crowded there is still room for a truly personal, coachbuilt creation. Bugatti Unveils New W16 One-Off Brouillard

The new era of Bugatti brings forth its first one-off. Bugatti is known for creating some of the world’s most desirable, expensive, exclusive, and unique hypercars, and having merged with electric hypercar rising star Rimac recently, Bugatti has entered a new era as a brand, retiring its quad-turbocharged W16 engine in favor of a naturally aspirated V16 engine from Cosworth with hybrid technology to reach unprecedented levels of power and performance in its new hypercar model, the Tourbillon. As the Tourbillon emerges and the last W16-powered Bugattis are produced, the exciting transition of Bugatti as a manufacturer is taking shape before our eyes. Contrary to what has been suggested by the beginning of a new age for Bugatti, the new Brouillard is powered by Bugatti’s legendary quad-turbocharged W16 engine with nearly 1,600 horsepower, being one of the ultra-exclusive models that is helping say goodbye to the cherished powertrain. Its unique bodywork includes a fixed ducktail spoiler, and a silhouette that is informed by principles of classic art. Its interior matches the green exterior, with custom-woven fabric from Paris, green-tinted carbon fiber, and a stunning glass roof bringing together natural light, beautifully embroidered horse motifs, and Bugatti’s performance-oriented opulence. The collector who now owns the Brouillard is a passionate Bugatti enthusiast who not only collects cars but also Carlo Bugatti’s furniture and Rembrandt Bugatti’s art. The official unveiling of the new Bugatti Brouillard will take place during Monterey Car Week, officially kicking off Bugatti’s Solitaire program which promises to only make up to two cars each year.
