Tom Cruise Confirms Days of Thunder Sequel for 2028

Tom Cruise Confirms Days of Thunder Sequel for 2028

Tom Cruise is heading back to NASCAR. The veteran Hollywood actor confirmed a sequel to Days of Thunder on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway, with Anne Hathaway joining him for the announcement. Paramount Pictures has set the film for a June 2, 2028, summer release. Cruise returns as Cole Trickle, the NASCAR driver he first played in Tony Scott's 1990 original, with Hathaway playing the role as team owner and engineer. Both stars appeared together at Daytona International Speedway beside a battered lime-green stock car that looks well-used, complete with race grime, scuffed bodywork and Eagle-branded tires.    View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tom Cruise (@tomcruise)   Daytona is also a fitting place to bring Cole Trickle back. The original Days of Thunder from 1990, which also features on our list of top car movies, followed the rookie driver as he worked his way through NASCAR, initially clashing with veteran racer Rowdy Burns, played by Michael Rooker. Robert Duvall starred as crew chief Harry Hogge, while Nicole Kidman played neurosurgeon Dr. Claire Lewicki. The story ultimately brought Trickle to the Daytona 500, making the speedway an obvious setting for his return nearly four decades later. NASCAR has remained a fixture of American screen culture in the decades since, providing the racing world that inspired Disney Pixar's Cars. Last year we saw another unusual meeting of the two when NASCAR announced plans to turn Naval Base Coronado into a temporary race circuit, an event we fittingly described at the time as Top Gun meeting Days of Thunder. The film also arrives as motorsport continues to enjoy a strong presence on the big screen. Bruckheimer recently produced the Brad Pitt-starrer F1: The Movie, while Cruise made a surprise appearance at the film’s European premiere in London last year, where he joined Bruckheimer, director Joseph Kosinski, Brad Pitt and Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. As for Cruise, his time with cars on screen extends well beyond Days of Thunder. The Mission: Impossible films have put Ethan Hunt at the center of elaborate car chases and motorcycle stunts, with everything from classic BMWs to modern M cars. Jonathan Levine will direct the upcoming film from a script by Will Staples while Cruise produces alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper. The sequel is being made for IMAX screens and is planned for an exclusive theatrical release, including premium formats such as Dolby Cinema and 4DX. When Days of Thunder returns to theaters in June 2028, it will be over 38 years since Cruise got behind the wheel as Cole Trickle. For now, Paramount has revealed little about where Cole Trickle's story goes next. But the first look already makes one thing clear. The sequel is putting the cars, the track, and NASCAR front and center.  Images via Instagram

Check Out Which Celebrities Were Trackside at F1 Miami 2026

Miami always has a way of attracting celebrities to the city, but Formula 1 weekend has turned it into something else entirely. What used to be a solid race on the F1 calendar has evolved into one of the most star-packed weekends of the year, where the crowd can be just as entertaining as what’s happening on track. Between the paddock, the garages, and everything surrounding Hard Rock Stadium, it’s basically a nonstop rotation of familiar faces, with the city leaning all the way into its reputation as a magnet for athletes, entertainers, and anyone who thrives in that spotlight. This past weekend marked another incredible Miami Grand Prix, with Kimi Antonelli and Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 taking home the win. While the teams were focused on Sunday, social media was flooded with trackside appearances. Lionel Messi was on-scene with a crowd around him at all times, continuing his run as one of the biggest draws in the city. Tennis icons Rafael Nadal and Serena William were both spotted throughout the weekend, alongside names like Jon Rahm and Shaun White, making it feel like every major sport had some kind of presence trackside. It wasn’t just athletes carrying the weekend either. DJ Khaled was, as expected, everywhere at once, while Kane Brown and Manuel Turizo added to the musical mix, and Alix Earle kept popping up where you’d expect. Actors like Colin Farrell, Patrick Dempsey, Terry Crews, and Jimmy Fallon were all around the paddock, with Tyriq Withers in there as well, plus the Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat repping the home side. At this point, the race is almost just part of it as Miami’s turned F1 weekend into its own thing, and the guest list says everything about how big it’s gotten. Star‑Studded Formula 1 Movie World Premiere Revs Up NYC W...

New York doesn’t usually stop for much, but when the likes of Brad Pitt, Lewis Hamilton, and much of the Formula 1 grid descend on the Big Apple, things slow down a bit to catch in on all the action. Under the glow of neon lights and the iconic billboards at Times Square, the heart of Manhattan was transformed into a pit lane of glitz and glamor for the " title="YouTube video" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen> of the highly anticipated Formula 1 The Movie. Ditching their racing overalls for sharp suits, much of the current crop of F1 drivers, from Charles LeClerc of Ferrari, Lando Norris of McLaren, and more, were in attendance, giving interviews in the heart of Times Square. Team bosses like Toto Wolff, Christian Horner, and Frédéric Vasseur were seen alongside Hollywood elites. View this post on Instagram A post shared by FORMULA 1® (@f1) Apple Original Films, which has teamed up with Warner Bros to produce this high-octane racing film, meant we also saw some pretty high-profile Apple execs at the event, including CEO Tim Cook. Speaking of Apple, just days ago at the tech giant’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), their VP of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, was seen in " title="YouTube video" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen> in full race gear in an F1 car atop Apple Park’s roof, which was transformed into a race track. A hint of Apple’s deep dive into F1, perhaps? Finally, Brad Pitt, the protagonist in the film, and co-star Damson Idris posed in front of the cameras alongside Lewis Hamilton. Working with Apple, the seven-time F1 world champion served as producer of the film. Lending his insights from inside the paddock, the British grand prix driver played a key role in ensuring the racing in the film looked and sounded as close to the real thing as possible. His involvement in the movie extended beyond creative inputs, and he collaborated closely with director Joseph Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer to help shape the story, team culture, and even the on-screen race gear.  Set to hit theaters on June 25 (Internationally), June 27 (North America), the film follows a fictional team called APEX Racing (APXGP) with Pitt playing a retired driver making a dramatic return to the grid with Idris casr as the team’s rising star. The film isn’t CGI-heavy, as the cars featured are modified Formula 2 machines, convincingly upgraded and wrapped to look like F1 cars. To capture the energy and drama of a Formula 1 race, parts of the film were shot during real Grand Prix weekends at venues like Silverstone, SPA, and Abu Dhabi. The profile of the pinnacle of motorsports has never been higher in the United States. Since the takeover by Liberty Media, F1’s presence has only grown in America, with the race in Austin being joined by Las Vegas and Miami, which has been extended until 2041. While Netflix’s Drive to Survive helped popularize the sport on the small screen, the Formula 1 The Movie aims to do the same, this time on the silver screen. Watch Travis Pastrana Attempt The First Airborne 360 In A...

Will this attempt of an insane stunt be successful? Travis Pastrana is one of the world’s greatest stunt drivers, with an illustrious rally career and a penchant for pulling off stunts that makes him one of the few drivers in the world who are able to pull of the moves that he can behind the wheel of any car. His latest car made for impressive stunts and tricks is a collaboration with Subaru Motorsports, the “Family Huckster,” which is based on the Subaru GL Wagon and is heavily modified for Gymkhana. The car and Travis Pastrana attempted an incredibly pioneering and ambitious stunt on Pastrana’s Channel 199 on YouTube in a new video. Given the car’s power and incredible engineering from both Hoonigan and Subaru Motorsports USA, the car is, on paper, able to do what it takes to perform an airborne 360 flat spinning jump. However, in a snowy landscape off of a ramp, is the car able to perform the unprecedented trick. Pastrana has wanted to perform the stunt for a long time, and the attempt seen in the new video on YouTube has been in the making for years. The video gives background on the difficulty of the stunt, and it chronicles the setup for the attempt that Pastrana made to achieve the unprecedented feat behind the wheel of the Subaru Huckster. Is the GL Wagon-based Subaru Huckster the car to complete the stunt, and is Travis Pastrana the driver to do it? View All Subarus For Sale " width="680">

Porsche 963 Test Aragon

Sebastian Vettel Successfully Tests The Porsche 963 In Spain

Who knew an F1 legend and an endurance racer would be a recipe for success? Sebastian Vettel is known and celebrated for a legacy of racing excellence, and his incredibly successful Formula 1 career, winning over 50 Grands Prix and also claiming four championship wins. Days ago, it was announced that the F1 legend was getting behind the wheel of Porsche’s newest endurance racing hypercar: the 963, to test it out in and help prepare the car to take on this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race that Porsche has 19 times overall. Vettel took to the Motorland Aragón race track in Spain, and there, he was able to drive the 963 for a total of 118 laps, with 361 miles covered between two double stints. However, it started in Germany, where Vettel met the Porsche Penske Motorsport team. Then, a simulation session prepared him for the ins and outs of the car, and his first laps in the real car took place at Weissach. After that, he took to Spain, driving the distance of two F1 Grands Prix with no problems on the track. Despite having expertise in the world of Formula 1, Vettel has a curiosity and admiration for other parts of the wide world of motorsport. Not only did he get to experience an endurance racing hypercar on-track, but he also played a part in Porsche’s preparations for one of the world’s most historic, challenging, and anticipated races: the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Porsche hopes to continue its success, winning the season openers for both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Daytona and the FIA WEC in Qatar. With the help of a racing legend from another discipline, Porsche looks forward to the 101st 24 Hours of Le Mans. View All Porsches For Sale Image Source: Porsche
