Florida Highway Patrol Adds A New C8 Corvette Police Car To Its Fleet

FHP is making highways safer with its newest police cruiser.

It's an idea first adopted by the Italian State Police Force in 2004 when Automobili Lamborghini donated one of its newest supercars to its dedicated police fleet. Not necessarily brought on to only catch superspeeders on the highway, the purpose-built Lamborghini police cars have evolved into versatile service vehicles for emergencies like organ deliveries. Today, the Florida Highway Patrol is embracing the same forward-thinking as it proudly debuts a C8 Chevrolet Corvette as part of its ever-growing fleet of police cars.

A sleek black and tan C8 Corvette, marked vividly with "State Trooper" decals, is parked beside a 45 mph speed limit sign. The scene, framed by swaying palm trees, suggests it's part of the Florida Highway Patrol's impressive fleet.

FHP took to its Instagram page this week to reveal its newest cruiser, a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray that was seized in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force and not purchased with state funds. The Corvette sports the same stealthy two-tone State Trooper livery and hidden emergency lights as all FHP vehicles, making highway speeders think twice when seeing a black C8 Stingray on the road. The interior has been upgraded with all the necessary support equipment needed for a daily FHP shift, plus some extra horsepower to end chases quicker.

The interior of this sleek C8 Corvette police car features a steering wheel adorned with the Florida Highway Patrol logo, digital display screens, and plush red leather seats. A laptop is mounted on a stand near the passenger seat, ensuring functionality meets style on every mile.

The C8 Corvette Stingray packs a serious punch with its mid-engine configuration and naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT2 V8, pushing out 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Stingray launches from 0 to 60 mph in just about 2.9 seconds. With a new C8 Corvette on the force and ready for educational outreach events, FHP is on the mission of keeping our roadways and highways safe.
