McLaren W1 First Drive: Ferocious Hypercar Transcends the Track

You know things are getting serious when McLaren rolls-out the ‘1’ suffix. The origin story is, of course, the very first road car McLaren ever built, the F1. Designed by visionary Formula 1 aerodynamicist and engineer Gordon Murray, it arrived in 1992 and rendered all other supercars obsolete. The tiny, lightweight F1 embraced carbon-fibre material technology, adopted a radical centre seat driving position with two passengers set back and either side and was powered by a 6.1-litre V12 engine from BMW that might as well have been passed down directly from the Gods. Game-changer? That doesn’t even come close to describing its impact, even if at the time sales didn’t come easy… The P1 was very different. Rather than a unique side project from the Formula 1 team, it was instead a statement piece for McLaren Automotive, a new road car division still in its infancy. It arrived in 2013 and was a wild-eyed showstopper. It traded the long-legged gait and supple suspension of the F1 for a weaponized hybrid system capable of delivering 903bhp and huge blue flames from its drainpipe exhaust. In Race mode, it lowered by 2-inches and its massive concave rear wing extended into the sky. The P1 was all about aerodynamic downforce, crazed acceleration and a snorting, angry soundtrack that mixed venomous twin-turbocharged V8 with the manic whirr of electric motors. Not so much a car as a force of nature. And now there’s this: The W1. It’s a true successor to the P1 with a similar brief and, on the face of it, it evolves rather than radically reinvents McLaren’s vision for the ultimate hypercar. This is not a criticism. How could it be when the result is this dramatic and has such staggering, other-worldly potential? The W1 has 1258bhp delivered to the rear wheels. It’s capable of 0-124 mph in 5.8-seconds, the quarter mile in 9.6-seconds at 167 mph and produces 2205lbs of downforce at 174 mph. The active aerodynamics – particularly a rear wing that extends way out beyond the rear of the car – are pure performance art and deliver massive aerodynamic efficiency. The result, aside from looking extremely cool, is that the W1 is McLaren’s fastest road car around a racetrack. Ever. Their benchmark circuit is the breath-taking Handling Track at the Nardo proving ground in southern Italy, where the W1 beats their previous benchmark, the flyweight McLaren Senna, by three seconds per lap. Or “a lifetime” as they call it in racing. Maybe two lifetimes! Core to the W1’s performance is the new ‘Aerocell’ carbon fibre tub. With integrated seats and a raised footwell to allow for inboard pushrod-operated front suspension – which in turn gives air a clean path to the huge underbody diffuser – it’s light, stiff, space efficient and has been instrumental in McLaren realising a full ground-effect concept. Just like last year’s F1 cars, which were the fastest ever made. There is also an active front wing and the aforementioned complex rear wing dubbed ‘Active Long Tail’. All of which is very admirable. But the ‘anhedral’ or gullwing doors and the fantastically shirnked-wrapped feel to the minimalist, highly-focussed interior are a pretty good side effect. The W1 feels special. Those fixed seats are perhaps a shade more upright than expected, and the driving position is less obviously racecar than, for example, the Aston Martin Valhalla or Ferrari F80. However, once you’ve adjusted the pedals (they move on a slider) and the delicate, slim-rimmed and alcantara-trimmed steering wheel, there’s an overwhelming sense of purpose. The cabin is so tightly tailored and imparts a sense of lightness and agility before you so much as start the all-new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which makes 916bhp all on its own and revs to 9200rpm. Reach up to a roof-mounted control panel to find the starter button. Maybe this fighter plane trope is a little corny, but somehow you feel thrilled rather than manipulated. The W1 has a sense of humour as well as all that motorsport-derived sophistication. There’s a short delay, but when the engine does fire it’s instant – as the high-powered hybrid system negates the need for an old-school starter motor. A sharp flare of revs tells you that this engine is hyper-responsive and angry. On some deep level your brain and body have been sent all the signals required to prepare for something new and intense. Ahead of us, an empty Mugello racetrack, so press and hold the blue button next to the red starter to select Race mode. The centre display graphic shows the W1’s transformation in real time as it lowers by 37mm at the front and 17mm at the rear whilst simultaneously undocking all that active aero goodness. Race mode is not road legal and is geo-locked. You can show your friends and neighbours the aero dance, but it won’t allow you to select a gear to actually drive unless you’re at a circuit. Incidentally, the rocker switches either side of the display binnacle allow further options now: Toggle up the Handling control on the left for Race+ (for F1-spec super smooth tracks) or stick to Race for gnarlier ones. On the right toggle select ‘GP’ for sustained performance over a stint or ‘Sprint’ to unleash all 1258bhp for a time attack. There’s also a DRS and Boost function on the steering wheel. But I guarantee you won’t have the mental capacity to use them… Exit the pitlane, pin the throttle and W1 takes maybe a millisecond or two to gather its might (the gearing stretches to around 60mph in first, nearly 100mph in second, primarily to aid traction), but then lunges at the first turn with incredible ferocity. It instantly feels light, almost like inertia is no longer a thing. McLaren really does prize lightweight engineering, and at 3084lbs (dry) the W1 has a 278lbs advantage over the Ferrari F80. Plus, Ferrari uses figures for cars fitted with every single carbon fibre option. In reality, the gap is probably wider still. The impression of agility and stunning control continues as the track is unravelled at startling pace. The electric motor mounted to the side of the new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission is good for 342bhp and 324lb ft and it boosts any low rev lethargy the new flat-plane crank V8 might have (spoiler alert: It doesn’t appear to have any), so the W1 just feels massively, almost impossibly powerful at any revs. Even so, there’s real reward for wringing it out to 9200rpm and the power curve feels superheated but organic, too. In Race mode the steering – still hydraulically powered – has less assistance and it is noticeably heavier than other McLarens. However, that resistance is welcome as it gives you something to push against and imparts so much information about the front grip level. New Pirelli Trofeo RS tyres with a bigger front footprint than P1 or Senna really help. The front-end feels incredibly secure and the rear-axle follows with perfectly-aligned precision. The whole car feels super-stiff, completely locked into the surface and inspires confidence, but there’s an inherent agility and adjustability that means you’re quickly confident to push at its limits and really impose yourself on the chassis. It’s such a complex car but the driving experience is intuitive, and the driver feels a key contributor rather than just amazed (or terrified) observer, holding on for dear life. Every dynamic ingredient really is shockingly effective and yet has a subtlety and lightness of touch. From that delicious steering to the incredible brakes, the W1 just feels so mission-focussed, so hooked-up. Only the new 8-speed gearbox is a slightly disappointment. It’s fast and punchy, but after the scintillating energy of the Ferrari F80 ’box it feels competent rather than inspired. Other quibbles – it’s okay to quibble when the starting price is $2.1-million before tax and destination charge. Well, that new twin-turbocharged V8 sounds tightly wound and aggressive but if you have a P1 tucked in the garage you’ll miss the snorting, Darth Vader-style soundscape and all the drama that goes with it. Ferrari does this better, too. The F80 sounds deathly dull from the outside but is a riot of turbochargers, electric motors and all sorts of mechanical fury within the cockpit. Even so, the W1 is wildly entertaining on track, and the rear-drive configuration makes it more of a challenge and more satisfying than the F80 when chasing lap times or just sliding around for fun. In the Ferrari, you must second-guess what the front e-axle might do, whereas in the W1 it’s all on you. There are plenty of tools to help, including the ingenious Variable Drift Control, but somehow the W1 is more heroic. Or at least fools you into feeling more heroic – which is surely the point! On the road? Nimble, loaded with feel and sublime response. The ride is noticeably tougher than, say, a 750S but the control is ramped-up too, and with a bit more speed the whole car finds a delicious rhythm. Sport mode for the drivetrain brings some nice turbo whooshes and chirps, but the noise remains high-quality rather than extreme excitement. It is perhaps the one area the W1 feels just a little too tame. Of course, there’s nothing tame about the raw performance… which is genuinely shocking and literally hurts your neck muscles after a few hours. How McLaren has given the W1 such immense traction through just two driven wheels is beyond me. So, is it worthy of that ‘1’? I think so. Perhaps we won’t be talking about $25-million auction results for the W1 in 30 years from now, as we are for the F1. Perhaps it doesn’t quite have the amazing presence and jaw-dropping star quality of the simply gorgeous P1. But it is such an intense experience and the way it marries stunning track performance with delicate poise and entertainment on normal roads is something akin to magic. Maybe not ‘the one’ but definitely a searing, outrageous addition to McLaren’s fiercest family line. Just 399 W1’s will be built and they’re all sold. I’m not surprised at all. Italian Exotics Take Center Stage as a Ferrari 430 Scuderia Leads the Week on duPont REGISTRY Live

11 cars closed this past week on duPont REGISTRY Live, extending a September run that continues adding useful market data across several collector segments. Ferrari dominated the closed docket, led by a Bianco Avus 430 Scuderia and a one-hour dR Drop F8 Spider that established a new platform high for the model. Repeat Ferrari, Porsche, Viper, and Corvette consignments continue to give us closer comparisons between specifications, mileage, and individual auction results across the platform. A McLaren Senna now leads the open docket as September moves toward its final week. Lots Closed: Highlights Five Italian exotics closed this past week on duPont REGISTRY Live, with two finishing above $500,000 while convertibles remained unusually prominent as summer draws to a close, accounting for five of the aforementioned 11 completed lots. Leading the results was a 2009 Ferrari 430 Scuderia finished in Bianco Avus and was accompanied by a VIP Book hammered for $742,350* including buyer’s premium, making it the second-highest Scuderia coupe result recorded on dR Live. Against an original U.S. base MSRP of approximately $286,000, the all-in result represents roughly 160 percent above that figure. Staying with mid-engine Ferraris, a 2022 Ferrari F8 Spider offered through a one-hour dR Drop Flash Sale hammered for $601,650*. The result establishes a new dR Live high for the F8 Spider and adds another useful reference for the platform's compressed auction format. A 2018 Ferrari 488 Spider in Avorio Historical paint with 2,440 miles hammered for $421,050*, with the car’s unusual factory paint and low mileage providing more useful context for this transaction. A 2010 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano with the factory HGTE package and 8,867 miles hammered for $410,550*. Ferrari charged approximately $30,095 for the Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione, or HGTE, package when new, bringing the final retail price of the particular example, including options, to $363,441. The all-in result therefore sits approximately 15 percent above that figure, adding another useful reference for genuine factory-HGTE cars. A 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 with 403 miles, a seven-speed manual, ZTK package, and 3ZR equipment group hammered for $284,025*. Chevrolet priced the ZR1 from $122,095 for 2019, while 3ZR and ZTK brought a comparable factory specification to at least approximately $135,000 before options. The all-in result therefore represents roughly 10 percent above it, with the mileage and specification placing this car within a particularly narrow subset of the C7 ZR1 market. Other highlights included an unmodified 2020 Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition which hammered for $155,925*, adding another useful reference for the R35 as collector interest continues to grow, a V10-powered 2020 Audi R8 Spyder in Kemora Gray which hammered for $142,275* ans a 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo with a six-speed manual and desirable slicktop configuration, hammered for $95,025*, bringing the 996 generation into the week's diverse results. Upcoming Lots: Highlights <- Gallery -> Looking ahead, eight cars are now available for bidding, and leading the current docket is a 2019 McLaren Senna finished in Factory MSO Blue Carbon with contrasting silver-painted bodywork and a gray Alcantara interior with 826 miles, currently bid to $1,711,095 with nine days remaining. The distinctive MSO specification and low mileage give this particular example a position within a limited production run of just 500 street-legal examples of this track-focused McLaren. Four Ferraris span very different eras and segments in this week's open docket, starting with a Rosso Corsa 2009 Ferrari 430 Scuderia Spider 16M with 10,000 miles, currently bid to $527,500 with six days remaining. Limited to 499 examples, the 16M also continues the Scuderia hierarchy question tracked across recent dR Live recaps, while the broader Ferrari group provides useful comparisons across mileage, specification, body style, engine configuration, and different generations as each auction moves toward its close. A 2022 Ferrari F8 Spider finished in Rosso Fiorano and showing 3,900 miles follows, sitting at $508,000 with three days remaining, giving the platform another closely timed F8 Spider to follow. A 2005 Ferrari F430 finished in Giallo Modena with 11,000 miles, which is currently bid to $151,000 with two days remaining. The naturally aspirated V12 side is represented by a 2013 Ferrari F12berlinetta in Bianco Avus, currently at $293,388 with five days remaining. Next is a 2018 Porsche 991.2 GT2 RS Weissach from Zuffenhausen, equipped with magnesium wheels and 10,738 miles, currently at $403,500 with five days remaining. This represents the fifth 991.2 GT2 RS Weissach to enter the docket within a relatively short window. Repeated examples now provide a deeper sample across mileage, specification, originality, and timing, making this week's car particularly useful for observing how bidding develops as additional supply reaches the platform. At the other end of the modern 911 spectrum, another 996 Turbo, finished in Arctic Silver, a 2003 Porsche 911 Turbo with just 3,235 miles and Porsche Exclusive options, currently sits at $130,000 with two days remaining. Hailing from the early water-cooled era, with the distinctive bug-eyed headlights, this 996 Turbo combines low mileage, a six-speed manual transmission, and a Mezger-derived flat-six engine. A 2017 Dodge Viper ACR Extreme from the Hale Collection joins the docket with just 1,368 miles, bringing another closely watched modern American collectible into this week's mix. Late-generation Vipers have attracted considerable collector attention throughout 2026, with the ACR Extreme sitting near the center of that interest. Aventador SV Tops a 15-Car Week as a Bianco Avus 430 Scuderia Leads the Docket on duPont REGISTRY Live

15 cars closed this week on duPont REGISTRY Live, adding more definition to several patterns we have been watching for months. Late bidding can still transform an auction when the right car finds its audience, while the growing number of repeat models is making it easier to see how mileage, specification, and individual auction dynamics influence results. Two weeks into September, the docket delivered everything from another substantial Aventador SV result to several cars that landed neatly within, or noticeably apart from, benchmarks already established on dR Live. Lots Closed: Highlights A 2017 Lamborghini Aventador SV in Blu Sideris with Ad Personam specification led the docket at $756,000 ($793,800 with Buyer's Premium), the second-highest publicly documented Aventador SV coupe auction result. Just over a month earlier, another 2017 Ad Personam SV, finished in Blu Cepheus, reached $796,000 hammer ($835,800 with Buyer's Premium) on dR Live. With dRi currently at $875,750, the hammer price for this latest result sits within a market that has already moved sharply, but the bidding trajectory was just as notable: with 5 days remaining, the car stood at $251,000 before more than tripling by the close. Another highlight from Sant'Agata came from a 2024 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica finished in Giallo Inti along with its distinctive carbon-fiber exterior elements, which hit $325,000 ($341,250 with Buyer's Premium), adding another useful reference point for Lamborghini's final naturally aspirated V10 generation. Turning to American performance and a single-owner 2005 Ford GT with 6,300 miles hammered at $567,000 ($595,350 with Buyer's Premium), landing between two recent platform results: a Speed Yellow Stripe Delete car at $583,000 and a Mark IV Red example at $516,000. A 3,315-mile, single-owner Ford GT also hammered at $517,000 in May, meaning this week's car brought $50,000 more despite nearly twice the mileage. Porsche delivered two of the week's more revealing results. A 2018 Porsche 991.2 GT2 RS Weissach with approximately 700 miles hammered at $720,000. The 2018 GT2 RS, when new, cost $293,200 before destination, with the Weissach Package adding $31,000. That puts the basic Weissach configuration at roughly $325,250, placing this result about 121% above that figure. With the 992 generation still yet to produce a GT2 variant, the 991.2 remains the latest expression of Porsche's turbocharged GT2 formula, and low-mileage Weissach examples continue to command substantial premiums over their original pricing. A driver-focused 2016 Porsche 911 R, #003 of 991 with a six-speed manual transmission, hammered at $507,000, well below its $826,388 dRi. A 2011 Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS reached approximately $511,000 in the same docket, narrowly exceeding the newer and rarer 911 R. Model hierarchy did not determine the outcome this week. A 2023 Ferrari Purosangue with carbon fiber options and a panoramic roof hammered at $442,500 ($464,625 with Buyer's Premium), above the model's approximately $398,000 original starting price. Against a number of recent Purosangue transactions that have landed below sticker, an above-MSRP result for a well-optioned example is a counterpoint to that pattern. Staying with V12 Ferraris, a 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello with a factory gated manual hammered at $201,000. 4 gated 550s have now crossed dR Live since July at $298,000, $296,000, $254,000, and $201,000, a sequence worth watching even allowing for differences between individual cars. Another result worth highlighting is a 2021 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 conversion with approximately 1,500 miles, which crossed the digital block at $400,000 ($420,000 with Buyer's Premium). dR Live is beginning to develop an interesting pricing hierarchy around six-wheel G-Class builds. A 2017 conversion using OEM parts reached $478,000 in August, while a 1-of-15 Brabus B63-S 700 6x6 occupies an entirely different tier with its $908,000 result in July. Finally, the week also included two duPont Drops' 1 Hour Flash offerings. A 2019 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera closed at $154,000 hammer ($161,700 with Buyer's Premium), while a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 reached $117,500 ($123,375 with Buyer's Premium). The compressed format adds another useful layer to dR Live's pricing picture by showing how quickly buyers respond when the bidding window is measured in minutes rather than days. Upcoming Lots: Highlights <- Gallery -> Nine cars are currently open for bidding, dominated by modern exotics. Leading the current docket is a track-focused 2009 Ferrari 430 Scuderia in Bianco Avus with a VIP Book, bid to $333,333 with 3 days remaining. The uncommon factory color immediately separates it from the more familiar Rosso Corsa, Giallo Modena, while the accompanying documentation adds another layer of interest to an already focused specification. Not far behind is a 2010 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano with the factory HGTE package and approximately 8,870 miles, currently bid to $313,500 with five days to go. HGTE cars remain considerably less common than standard GTBs, with the package bringing chassis, suspension, and weight-saving changes that give the 599 a noticeably sharper character. Another Ferrari, this 2018 488 Spider, pairs 2,440 miles with rarely seen Avorio Historical paint and sits at $306,000 with 5 days remaining. Staying with Italy, a 2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo powered by the Nettuno V6 with 1,780 miles and Bianco Audace matte paint, is currently bid to $165,000, with five days remaining. For something more track-focused, a C7 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 finished in striking Sebring Orange, with just 403 miles and the 7-speed manual, ZTK and 3ZR packages, is also bid to $165,000 with six days remaining, making it one of the most tightly specified cars in the current lineup. Japanese performance is represented this week by a R35 2020 Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition, currently at $106,000 with five days to go, while the analog end of the spectrum is covered by a 996 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo with the desirable slicktop roof and 6-speed manual, now bid to $70,000 with three days remaining. Saleen S7 Leads Closed Results as a Low-Mileage GT2 RS Weissach Headlines the Week Ahead on duPont REGISTRY Live

Nine cars crossed the digital block on duPont REGISTRY Live this past week, with yet another American Hypercar, this time with celebrity provenance, leading the results. Looking ahead, 13 cars are currently open for bidding, led by several significant analog and modern performance cars. A 700-mile Porsche 911 GT2 RS Weissach and a single-owner Ford GT headline the group, alongside another Ad Personam Aventador SV and an early Porsche 911 R. Lots Closed: Highlights A 2003 Saleen S7 provided a notable result on duPont REGISTRY Live, with a 1,910-mile example connected to Roger Rodas, business partner of the late Paul Walker, hammered for $900,000 ($945,000 with Buyer’s Premium). The result came in just 1.7% above the model's $885,000 duPont REGISTRY Index (dRi) value. This particular car previously sold for $675,000 on Bring a Trailer in June 2023, representing a 33.3% increase over roughly three years. Earlier in August, a much rarer 2007 Saleen S7 LM also sold on duPont REGISTRY Live for $1.098 million ($1.153 million with Buyer’s Premium), providing useful context for the premium commanded by the much rarer LM, limited to just three units. Staying with analog-era hypercars, a 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster, finished in Crystal Palladium Grey with 14,000 miles, hammered at $461,000 ($484,050 with Buyer's Premium), the fourth SLR to cross the block on the platform. As we explored in our market spotlight on the SLR last year, Gordon Murray, the same engineer behind the McLaren F1, spent years insisting on this car's front mid-engine layout and all-carbon structure. Around 2,100 examples were built across all variants, U.S. sales totaled approximately 713 cars between 2004 and 2010, and this particular Roadster is one of only 229 produced for the U.S. market. Values for clean examples have historically hovered between $270,000 and $900,000, and the SLR still remains undervalued relative to its analog-era contemporaries like the Porsche Carrera GT and Ferrari Enzo, which routinely fetch seven and, in the Enzo’s case, even eight figures, as seen across the recent Monterey Car Week auctions. The two Urban Automotive builds both closed: a 2027 Rolls-Royce Cullinan at $555,000 ($582,750 with Buyer's Premium) and a 2027 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG at $344,000 ($361,200 with Buyer's Premium). Both are aftermarket-modified examples rather than factory-configured specifications. The G63 at roughly 1.9 times its approximate $180,000 MSRP suggests the program is adding measurable secondary-market value. A 992.1 2023 Porsche 911 Turbo with about 6,700 miles hammered at $211,000 ($221,550 with Buyer's Premium). With a U.S. base MSRP of roughly $184,350 when new, the result sits about 14.5 percent above its original sticker before accounting for factory options. It also represents the final pre-electrification generation of the 911 Turbo, a distinction that could become increasingly relevant to 992.1 Turbo valuations moving forward. A 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder with approximately 6,500 miles from a single owner hammered at $129,000 ($135,450 with Buyer's Premium). The Gallardo redefined the entry-level Lamborghini formula with its naturally aspirated V10, and ardent Clarkson fans among you may recall how he once said that the Spyder is where this Italian exotic truly looks its best. Finally, a 16,000-mile 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL with a removable hardtop hammered at $27,500 ($28,875 with Buyer's Premium). Classics are becoming increasingly visible alongside the modern exotics that have represented dR Live's earlier dockets, and the R107 adds another clear example of that widening mix. The clearest example came just last week, when a 1970 Ferrari Dino 246 GT, hammered for $647,000 ($679,350 including Buyer's Premium), set a new L-Series record. Upcoming Lots: Highlights <- Gallery -> A 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS with approximately 700 miles and the Weissach Package currently leads the open docket at $588,888 with three days remaining. The combination of very low mileage and Weissach specification makes it one of the more notable 991.2 GT2 RS examples to appear on dR Live, where several examples spanning different mileages and configurations have already crossed the block. Its 700-horsepower, rear-wheel-drive layout also places the GT2 RS at the extreme end of the 991 generation, before Porsche's latest GT cars moved further into increasingly sophisticated chassis and powertrain technology. A single-owner 2005 Ford GT showing approximately 6,300 miles follows at $470,650 with five days remaining. The car represents another largely analog counterpoint within this week's docket, combining a supercharged V8 with a six-speed manual transmission. dR Live has handled several Ford GTs since launch, giving this example useful platform history against cars with different mileage, colors, and factory configurations. Ferrari contributes two very different naturally aspirated cars. A 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello finished in Grigio Titanio, equipped with its factory gated six-speed manual, is currently at $127,000 with three days remaining. A 2012 Ferrari 458 Italia in Bianco Avus, carrying more than $70,000 in factory options, sits at $161,000 with five days remaining. Together, they highlight two important eras for Ferrari, with the 550 representing the Italian marque's front-engine manual V12 revival and the 458 its final series-production mid-engine naturally aspirated V8. Lamborghini is similarly well represented, with a 2024 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica finished in Giallo Inti and protected by Damascus PPF currently bid to $250,000, while a 2017 Aventador SV in Blu Sideris through Ad Personam sits at $270,000. The SV is particularly notable as one of Lamborghini's naturally aspirated V12 flagships from the pre-hybrid era. Porsche adds two more significant analog cars. A 997.2 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS with PCCBs and the Sport Chrono Package is currently at $50,000, while a 991.2 2016 Porsche 911 R, number 003 of 991 and equipped with the optional single-mass flywheel, has only just begun bidding at $3,000. The latter's exceptionally early production number gives the car an additional point of distinction within an already limited 991-car production run. Elsewhere, a 2021 Mercedes-AMG G63 6x6 conversion with roughly 1,500 miles is at $126,001, while a 2023 Ferrari Purosangue with carbon-fiber options and a panoramic roof sits at $203,000. A 2016 McLaren 675LT in Silica White, one of 500 coupes produced, is at $138,900, while a Racing Yellow 2021 Porsche 718 Spyder is currently at $115,000. A duPont REGISTRY Cover Car Comes Full Circle as Vector M12 “American Anthem” Heads to Auction

This Vector M12, chassis 001, also known as “American Anthem,” is the very car that appeared on the cover of duPont REGISTRY’s October 1996 issue. Nearly three decades later, it is headed to Barrett-Jackson following a recent appearance at Donuts with duPont at our Lebanon, Tennessee location. Mission Motorsports, the Franklin, Tennessee dealership run by Alex Demetriades, has the car consigned ahead of the sale. What makes this M12 special is the now iconic American-themed livery. White stars cover the deep blue nose and roof, red and white stripes sweep toward the tail, and the Statue of Liberty spans the hood and doors. Gold accents connect the artwork with the three-spoke wheels and oversized number 1 graphics along both flanks, while vivid blue upholstery carries the theme into the cabin. Designer Michael Santoro signed the work, and a plaque at the rear still identifies the car as “American Anthem” and production #1-001. Vector CEO D. Peter Rose gave him a simple brief: create a show car that would draw attention, emphasize the M12’s American production, and hint at a future racing program. Instead of simply applying the Stars and Stripes to the body, Santoro stretched and distorted the motif to suggest the M12 had torn through the flag at speed. <- Gallery -> Even without the stunning livery, the M12 is unmistakably a product of the 1990s. The wedge-shaped nose, steeply raked wraparound windshield, scissor doors, integrated rear wing and deep side intakes combine to create a low-slung profile that belongs to a very particular era of supercar design. Three decades later, those proportions still make the car look almost impossibly dramatic. The M12 itself arrived during one of Vector’s strangest chapters. After Indonesian conglomerate MegaTech took control of the company, Vector relocated from California to Florida and came under the same corporate ownership as Lamborghini. The M12 consequently used a Lamborghini-sourced, mid-mounted 5.7-liter V12 producing 492 horsepower, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. Previous duPont REGISTRY coverage puts production at just 14 customer cars, excluding prototypes. Chassis 001 seen here was one of the first M12s prepared for the model’s public debut at the 1996 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Later that year, American Anthem became part of duPont REGISTRY history. Our October 1996 issue featured chassis 001 on the cover beneath a U.S. Navy Blue Angels F/A-18, while an Auto Panache advertisement inside offered the then-new M12 for $189,000 and described it as a “jet fighter concept for the roads.” The car also resurfaced last year in our duPont REGISTRY 40th Anniversary - Cover Cars: 1996 retrospective, which revisited some of the magazine’s standout covers from that year. 30 years on, bringing the original issue back together with the same car at Donuts with duPont made for a rare reunion between a cover and its original subject. Ferrari Dino Pushes the L-Series Market Higher as Saleen S7 Enters Final Days on duPont REGISTRY Live

Monterey Car Week’s mega record-setting eight-figure auction results may be behind us, but the market has far from cooled. On duPont REGISTRY Live, nine lots closed this past week, with eleven currently open for bidding. Classics are also beginning to gain traction on the platform, and a recent run of Ferrari Dino sales has given us an especially useful reference point, as three examples closed on two platforms in three consecutive weeks. But the main focus going into next week remains a rare race-bred American hypercar, the Saleen S7 that we spotlighted recently, set to close in two days. Lots Closed: Highlights Let's start with a 1970 Ferrari Dino 246 GT L-Series, chassis 00744, a Cavallino Classic first-in-class winner with Ferrari Classiche certification, which hammered at $647,000 ($679,350 with Buyer's Premium). For context, a Classiche-certified, numbers-matching 1972 Dino with its original engine sold for $417,500 at Bonhams Monterey, while a 1972 yellow example with a rebuilt engine recently hammered at $370,000 on dR Live. The L-Series is the earliest and rarest 246 GT series, with roughly 358 built. The combination of early-series specification, rare factory color, comprehensive restoration, FCA Platino recognition, and the Cavallino win all played a part in its result. Switching back to modern Ferraris, a 2023 Ferrari 812 GTS Atelier in Grigio Silverstone hammered at $807,000 ($847,350 with Buyer's Premium), while a 2022 812 GTS, part of our recent Monterey drop, hammered at $780,000. A separate example sold for $853,000 on Bring a Trailer in July. Put those three together, and you have a useful recent reference range for the model: $780,000 to $853,000, with the Atelier specification landing somewhere in the middle. Sticking with front-engined V12s and a 1999 Ferrari 550 Maranello finished in Argento Nurburgring with the increasingly desirable factory-gated manual hammered at $254,000 ($266,700 with Buyer’s Premium). Rounding out the Ferraris was a Rosso Corsa 2006 F430 that hammered at $261,000 ($274,500 with Buyer’s Premium). While naturally aspirated mid-engine Ferraris are becoming collector gold, it is the factory manuals that continue to command a premium. Onto Porsche and A 2011 Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS with 13,000 miles hammered at $591,000 ($620,550 with Buyer's Premium), closing 11.9 percent below the platform's sub-5,000-mile record of $671,000. 996 gen models like the GT2 continue to gain traction, and a 2002 Porsche 996 GT2 Manufaktur, one of only five US examples with X-Code options, hammered at $260,500 ($273,525 with Buyer's Premium). An extensively documented 993 1995 Porsche Carrera finished in Aventurine Green hammered at $106,500 ($111,825). As for American performance, a 2006 Ford GT in Mark IV Red hammered at $516,000 ($541,800 with Buyer's Premium) with just 8,998 miles, placing it amongst the highest results for the first-gen GT on the platform Upcoming Lots: Highlights <- Gallery -> The lot you want to be watching right now is the 2003 Saleen S7, connected to Roger Rodas, Paul Walker, and the Always Evolving Collection. What makes it genuinely rare beyond the provenance is the specification: one of only two naturally aspirated S7s built without the polished-wheel upgrade, finished in Speedlab Silver with 1,910 miles and Steve Saleen's signature beneath the driver's door. Currently bid to $860,000 with three days remaining, there is still room to grow. If you are looking for something with more traditional collector credentials, a 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster in Crystal Palladium Grey with 14,000 miles is bid to $183,000 with six days remaining and is one of six convertibles currently in the docket. Compared to its contemporaries, the SLR continues to remain more attainable, but it is yet another 2000s exotic that is starting to gain attention, and the Roadsters are far rarer, with only 520 built at McLaren’s Woking facility in England. At $183,000 with nearly a week of bidding ahead, this one is significantly below where comparable examples have been trading. Staying with open-top machinery, a 2008 Ferrari F430 Spider in Grigio Silverstone with 11,654 miles is bid to $166,000 with three days remaining, while a single-owner 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder with approximately 6,500 miles and finished in Giallo Midas has just entered the docket. Onto Porsche and a 997.2 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S with 28,000 miles and a carbon fiber interior package is bid to $82,000 with four days remaining, whereas a 2023 Porsche 911 Turbo with roughly 6,700 miles and full body PPF is now bid to $70,000. From exotics to bespoke luxury, two 2027-model-year vehicles with Urban Automotive body kits have entered the docket: a G63 AMG at $308,786 and a Rolls-Royce Cullinan at $466,000, both with six days remaining. McLaren Senna GTR Leads Closed Results as Saleen S7 Headlines the Week Ahead on duPont REGISTRY Live

Following a record-setting Monterey Car Week 2026 that generated $758 million in auction sales, where Ferrari was the dominant marque, duPont REGISTRY Live closed 21 lots this past week, led by a track-only 2020 McLaren Senna GTR. The results followed a special two-car dR Live Monterey drop, which included the platform debut of a GT Silver Metallic Porsche Carrera GT. Nine lots remain open for bidding, headlined by a 2003 Saleen S7 with documented ties to Paul Walker and Roger Rodas. Lots Closed: Highlights A 2020 McLaren Senna GTR, chassis 45 of 75, finished in MSO Pure White, hammered at $ 1,131,000 ($1,187,550 with Buyer's Premium). Standard factory track-spec GTRs have traded publicly between $970,000 and $1,450,000 depending on mileage and specification, with the highest confirmed standard result being $1,435,000 achieved at RM Sotheby's Monterey. Offered with a Bill of Sale, the Senna GTR is not street-legal, and this latest result for the track-only hypercar firmly lands in that range. Staying with McLaren, a 2021 765 LT finished in Curacao Blue with MSO options closed at $605,000 ($635,250 with Buyer's Premium). Four Corvettes, three of which were C7 2019 ZR1s, closed last week, producing some interesting observations. A 345-mile manual ZTK hammered at $297,500($312,375 with Buyer's Premium) while an 837-mile ZTK hammered at $173,000($181,650 with Buyer's Premium). The manual transmission combined with 492 fewer miles produced a 72 percent premium over the higher-mileage ZTK. A 14,089-mile 3ZR example hammered at $130,000($136,500 with Buyer's Premium). Onto Porsche and a 991.2 2018 Porsche GT2 RS Weissach finished in striking Miami Blue and equipped with the highly desirable Weissach Package and 3,019 miles hammered at 765,000(803,250 with Buyer's Premium), above both prior platform Weissach results of $530,000 and $671,786 this summer, though below the $1,000,000 publicly documented high achieved by a 593-mile Viola Purple example on BaT back in July. A 996 2001 Porsche GT2 Clubsport, one of 70 produced, hammered at 362,000(380,100 with Buyer's Premium) with 7,700 miles. A 991.2 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster in Carmine Red, one of just 65 produced in this colour from 1,948 total examples, hammered at $452,000($474,600 with Buyer's Premium), or roughly 1.32x its original MSRP of $343k. Coming to Ferrari, the top lot was a 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT finished in Giallo Modena with a rebuilt engine hammered at $370,000 ($388,500 with Buyer's Premium). At Bonhams Laguna Seca on August 13, a numbers-matching, original-engine 1972 Dino finished at $417,500. The rebuilt engine highlights the $47,000 differential between the two results. Rounding out the closed lots is a 2017 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 with OEM conversion parts that hammered at $478,000 ($501,900 with Buyer’s Premium). A Brabus G63 6x6, one of 15 made, previously closed on the platform at $953,399. Sticking with Ferrari, a V12-powered factory-gated 1999 550 Maranello finished in Argento Nurburgring is currently bid to $154,000, whereas a Rosso Corsa 2006 360 Modena with the F1 Automated manual and only 5,247 miles is now bid to $89,000. Yet another Dino makes an appearance this week, with this particular 1970 246 GT a 1st in class Cavallino Winner carrying Ferrari Classiche certification. A 997.1 2011 Porsche GT3RS with 13,000 miles is bid to $352,000 with four days remaining, whereas a 2002 Porsche 911 GT2 with X-Code options, one of just five for the US and appearing for the second time on the platform, is now bidding at $225,000. Rare Steve Saleen-Signed S7 With Paul Walker Ties Hits the Block on duPont REGISTRY Live

Just a few weeks since a twin-turbocharged 2007 Saleen S7 LM from the SFX Collection delivered a platform-record result of $1,098,000 ($1,152,900 including buyer’s premium), yet another S7 has joined duPont REGISTRY Live, representing a steady stream of hypercar consignments on the platform. This time, it is a naturally aspirated 2003 example, chassis 03-024, finished in Speedlab Silver over a charcoal interior with 1,910 miles. Although often associated with Paul Walker, this S7 never belonged to the late actor. According to the Saleen S7 Registry on Instagram, it belonged to Walker’s business partner, the late Roger Rodas. A California title issued in the name of AE Mtrs, the business associated with Walker and Rodas, further supports the car’s Always Evolving provenance. This particular example stands out further, as it also bears Steve Saleen’s signature beneath the driver’s butterfly door and retains its black-painted factory wheels. The registry also added that Saleen built only two S7 road cars without the polished-wheel upgrade, making this particular example extremely rare with an already limited production run of ~100 units. It is easy to see why a younger demographic of collectors keeps going after cars like the S7. Its naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 produces 550 horsepower that goes exclusively to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. That younger demographic of collectors has now reached the age where some can bid on the real thing. The S7 backs up that nostalgia with 200-plus-mph performance and a formidable racing legacy. Porsche Carrera GT and Ferrari 812 GTS Headline duPont REGISTRY Live’s Monterey Car Week Specials

Monterey Car Week 2026 saw the collector car market tested across five auction houses and hundreds of lots. duPont REGISTRY Live marked the occasion with two special offerings of its own, delivered through our flash sale format during one of the most significant auction weeks of the year. A 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, chassis 0558, made its platform debut on duPont REGISTRY Live as a special Car Week dR Drop, closing Saturday after fierce bidding in the final hour. Finished in GT Silver Metallic over a Dark Grey full leather interior, the car shows 3,844 miles and arrives in an exceptionally well-documented state: original window sticker, factory documentation, owner's literature, the matching black luggage set, car cover, and two keys all accompany the car, alongside more than $72,000 in documented Porsche dealer service completed in 2021. The result of $3,544,000 hammer ($3,721,200 with Buyer's Premium) tracks closely against the model's current duPont REGISTRY Index value of $3,575,000. It also carries immediate market context. In February 2026, RM Sotheby's Miami sold a GT Silver Metallic Carrera GT for $3,305,000 with just 603 miles. The duPont REGISTRY Live result exceeds that by $416,200. The documentation, complete luggage set, and service investment overcame a meaningful mileage disadvantage, a result that highlights precisely what the Carrera GT market has been rewarding in 2026. Against the model's current duPont REGISTRY Index value of $2,800,000, the result sits 26.6 percent above the dRi. Against an original MSRP of approximately $440,000, the hammer represents an 8.05x multiple. An 812 GTS in BRG with this level of specification is genuinely uncommon.
