McLaren W1 First Drive: Ferocious Hypercar Transcends the Track

You know things are getting serious when McLaren rolls-out the ‘1’ suffix. The origin story is, of course, the very first road car McLaren ever built, the F1. Designed by visionary Formula 1 aerodynamicist and engineer Gordon Murray, it arrived in 1992 and rendered all other supercars obsolete. The tiny, lightweight F1 embraced carbon-fibre material technology, adopted a radical centre seat driving position with two passengers set back and either side and was powered by a 6.1-litre V12 engine from BMW that might as well have been passed down directly from the Gods. Game-changer? That doesn’t even come close to describing its impact, even if at the time sales didn’t come easy… The P1 was very different. Rather than a unique side project from the Formula 1 team, it was instead a statement piece for McLaren Automotive, a new road car division still in its infancy. It arrived in 2013 and was a wild-eyed showstopper. It traded the long-legged gait and supple suspension of the F1 for a weaponized hybrid system capable of delivering 903bhp and huge blue flames from its drainpipe exhaust. In Race mode, it lowered by 2-inches and its massive concave rear wing extended into the sky. The P1 was all about aerodynamic downforce, crazed acceleration and a snorting, angry soundtrack that mixed venomous twin-turbocharged V8 with the manic whirr of electric motors. Not so much a car as a force of nature. And now there’s this: The W1. It’s a true successor to the P1 with a similar brief and, on the face of it, it evolves rather than radically reinvents McLaren’s vision for the ultimate hypercar. This is not a criticism. How could it be when the result is this dramatic and has such staggering, other-worldly potential? The W1 has 1258bhp delivered to the rear wheels. It’s capable of 0-124 mph in 5.8-seconds, the quarter mile in 9.6-seconds at 167 mph and produces 2205lbs of downforce at 174 mph. The active aerodynamics – particularly a rear wing that extends way out beyond the rear of the car – are pure performance art and deliver massive aerodynamic efficiency. The result, aside from looking extremely cool, is that the W1 is McLaren’s fastest road car around a racetrack. Ever. Their benchmark circuit is the breath-taking Handling Track at the Nardo proving ground in southern Italy, where the W1 beats their previous benchmark, the flyweight McLaren Senna, by three seconds per lap. Or “a lifetime” as they call it in racing. Maybe two lifetimes! Core to the W1’s performance is the new ‘Aerocell’ carbon fibre tub. With integrated seats and a raised footwell to allow for inboard pushrod-operated front suspension – which in turn gives air a clean path to the huge underbody diffuser – it’s light, stiff, space efficient and has been instrumental in McLaren realising a full ground-effect concept. Just like last year’s F1 cars, which were the fastest ever made. There is also an active front wing and the aforementioned complex rear wing dubbed ‘Active Long Tail’. All of which is very admirable. But the ‘anhedral’ or gullwing doors and the fantastically shirnked-wrapped feel to the minimalist, highly-focussed interior are a pretty good side effect. The W1 feels special. Those fixed seats are perhaps a shade more upright than expected, and the driving position is less obviously racecar than, for example, the Aston Martin Valhalla or Ferrari F80. However, once you’ve adjusted the pedals (they move on a slider) and the delicate, slim-rimmed and alcantara-trimmed steering wheel, there’s an overwhelming sense of purpose. The cabin is so tightly tailored and imparts a sense of lightness and agility before you so much as start the all-new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which makes 916bhp all on its own and revs to 9200rpm. Reach up to a roof-mounted control panel to find the starter button. Maybe this fighter plane trope is a little corny, but somehow you feel thrilled rather than manipulated. The W1 has a sense of humour as well as all that motorsport-derived sophistication. There’s a short delay, but when the engine does fire it’s instant – as the high-powered hybrid system negates the need for an old-school starter motor. A sharp flare of revs tells you that this engine is hyper-responsive and angry. On some deep level your brain and body have been sent all the signals required to prepare for something new and intense. Ahead of us, an empty Mugello racetrack, so press and hold the blue button next to the red starter to select Race mode. The centre display graphic shows the W1’s transformation in real time as it lowers by 37mm at the front and 17mm at the rear whilst simultaneously undocking all that active aero goodness. Race mode is not road legal and is geo-locked. You can show your friends and neighbours the aero dance, but it won’t allow you to select a gear to actually drive unless you’re at a circuit. Incidentally, the rocker switches either side of the display binnacle allow further options now: Toggle up the Handling control on the left for Race+ (for F1-spec super smooth tracks) or stick to Race for gnarlier ones. On the right toggle select ‘GP’ for sustained performance over a stint or ‘Sprint’ to unleash all 1258bhp for a time attack. There’s also a DRS and Boost function on the steering wheel. But I guarantee you won’t have the mental capacity to use them… Exit the pitlane, pin the throttle and W1 takes maybe a millisecond or two to gather its might (the gearing stretches to around 60mph in first, nearly 100mph in second, primarily to aid traction), but then lunges at the first turn with incredible ferocity. It instantly feels light, almost like inertia is no longer a thing. McLaren really does prize lightweight engineering, and at 3084lbs (dry) the W1 has a 278lbs advantage over the Ferrari F80. Plus, Ferrari uses figures for cars fitted with every single carbon fibre option. In reality, the gap is probably wider still. The impression of agility and stunning control continues as the track is unravelled at startling pace. The electric motor mounted to the side of the new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission is good for 342bhp and 324lb ft and it boosts any low rev lethargy the new flat-plane crank V8 might have (spoiler alert: It doesn’t appear to have any), so the W1 just feels massively, almost impossibly powerful at any revs. Even so, there’s real reward for wringing it out to 9200rpm and the power curve feels superheated but organic, too. In Race mode the steering – still hydraulically powered – has less assistance and it is noticeably heavier than other McLarens. However, that resistance is welcome as it gives you something to push against and imparts so much information about the front grip level. New Pirelli Trofeo RS tyres with a bigger front footprint than P1 or Senna really help. The front-end feels incredibly secure and the rear-axle follows with perfectly-aligned precision. The whole car feels super-stiff, completely locked into the surface and inspires confidence, but there’s an inherent agility and adjustability that means you’re quickly confident to push at its limits and really impose yourself on the chassis. It’s such a complex car but the driving experience is intuitive, and the driver feels a key contributor rather than just amazed (or terrified) observer, holding on for dear life. Every dynamic ingredient really is shockingly effective and yet has a subtlety and lightness of touch. From that delicious steering to the incredible brakes, the W1 just feels so mission-focussed, so hooked-up. Only the new 8-speed gearbox is a slightly disappointment. It’s fast and punchy, but after the scintillating energy of the Ferrari F80 ’box it feels competent rather than inspired. Other quibbles – it’s okay to quibble when the starting price is $2.1-million before tax and destination charge. Well, that new twin-turbocharged V8 sounds tightly wound and aggressive but if you have a P1 tucked in the garage you’ll miss the snorting, Darth Vader-style soundscape and all the drama that goes with it. Ferrari does this better, too. The F80 sounds deathly dull from the outside but is a riot of turbochargers, electric motors and all sorts of mechanical fury within the cockpit. Even so, the W1 is wildly entertaining on track, and the rear-drive configuration makes it more of a challenge and more satisfying than the F80 when chasing lap times or just sliding around for fun. In the Ferrari, you must second-guess what the front e-axle might do, whereas in the W1 it’s all on you. There are plenty of tools to help, including the ingenious Variable Drift Control, but somehow the W1 is more heroic. Or at least fools you into feeling more heroic – which is surely the point! On the road? Nimble, loaded with feel and sublime response. The ride is noticeably tougher than, say, a 750S but the control is ramped-up too, and with a bit more speed the whole car finds a delicious rhythm. Sport mode for the drivetrain brings some nice turbo whooshes and chirps, but the noise remains high-quality rather than extreme excitement. It is perhaps the one area the W1 feels just a little too tame. Of course, there’s nothing tame about the raw performance… which is genuinely shocking and literally hurts your neck muscles after a few hours. How McLaren has given the W1 such immense traction through just two driven wheels is beyond me. So, is it worthy of that ‘1’? I think so. Perhaps we won’t be talking about $25-million auction results for the W1 in 30 years from now, as we are for the F1. Perhaps it doesn’t quite have the amazing presence and jaw-dropping star quality of the simply gorgeous P1. But it is such an intense experience and the way it marries stunning track performance with delicate poise and entertainment on normal roads is something akin to magic. Maybe not ‘the one’ but definitely a searing, outrageous addition to McLaren’s fiercest family line. Just 399 W1’s will be built and they’re all sold. I’m not surprised at all. The 32nd Edition Of Palm Beach Cavallino Classic

The most important event in the world entirely dedicated to classic Ferraris has just ended. Over 120 Ferraris competing, 3 extraordinary Best of Show winners, and a spectacular class celebrating the Centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans: these were the main ingredients that made the 32nd Palm Beach Cavallino Classic absolutely unforgettable. This edition, the 32nd, included a special class celebrating the Centenary since the first ever 24 Hours of Le Mans, and open to Ferraris that have competed in the marathon French car race. This year, for the first time at the Cavallino Classic, 3 Best of Show awards were assigned. The prize for Overall Outstanding Ferrari Granturismo went to the 1956 Ferrari 410 Superamerica s/n 0483 SA. The 1953 Ferrari 250 MM Berlinetta Pinin Farina s/n 0258 MM was chosen as the Overall Outstanding Ferrari Competition car, while the Overall Outstanding Ferrari with the “Red Book” was assigned to the 1971 Ferrari 512 M s/n 1020. Palm Beach, February 1, 2023 Palm Beach Cavallino Classic, staged by Canossa at The Breakers in Palm Beach (Florida) and open to classic Ferraris, proved to be an unforgettable event. The turnout was unprecedented with numerous people coming along to admire the 125 cars entered in the competition. They included several unique pieces, specimens that have helped to create and consolidate the Ferrari legend. The tricolor ribbon cutting, symbolically opening the event, was performed by Luigi Orlandini, Chairman and CEO of Canossa and Cavallino, who was flanked by Danielle H. Moore, Mayor of Palm Beach, and Eva Alvino, Deputy Consul General of Italy in Miami. The Concours was actually preceded by the Track Day at The Concours Club on Thursday 26, which gave the owners of the racing Ferraris a chance to “stretch their wheels”, and a Tour d’Eleganza on Friday 27. The Tour route took the cars along some of the most spectacular highways in Florida, including the A1A from Deerfield Beach all the way to Palm Beach. Coinciding with the Concorso, there was also a themed symposium called “Great Ferraris at Le Mans”. This event featured exceptional guests, including Luigi Chinetti Jr. who recounted how, as a child, he had personally witnessed the victory of his father, at the 1949 24 Hours of Le Mans, the first international success for the then very young house of Maranello. He stood just a few meters from the winning car itself, the 1949 Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta Touring s/n 0008 M. A truly extraordinary moment for car enthusiasts, the kind of moment only to be experienced at a Cavallino Classic. “It’s been wonderful to have the chance to celebrate the Centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with so many collectors,” said Luigi Orlandini. “It’s such a fascinating topic, as well as a hugely important chapter in automotive history and in the history of Ferrari in particular. We managed to bring together, in Palm Beach, numerous beautiful cars and many of the people who helped to create the Ferrari legend, both on the Circuit de la Sarthe and elsewhere. Special thanks to Anne Brockinton Lee for bringing along two extraordinary vehicles. She won one of the Best in Show awards for her 410 Superamerica, becoming, I believe, the first woman to achieve this in a Cavallino Classic. Her beautifully elegant show car illustrates perfectly how the Ferrari legend is based not just on racing cars, but also on wonderful granturismos that can be used on normal roads. Finally, as organizer of the event, I am naturally delighted to point out that there was a great turnout of visitors, undoubtedly attracted by both the quality and the number of vehicles present. So, now it’s goodbye until next time, which will be the Cavallino Classic Modena, due to take place from 12 to 14 May.” On the charitable side, Palm Beach Cavallino Classic, through the Cavallino Classic Foundation (which last year donated a total of USD 120,000 raised by the 2022 edition), continued its tradition of supporting the American Council of the Blind, the A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, whose students sang the National Anthem at the start of the show, and the Piston Foundation, in this case to fund Motor Valley internships for young people wanting to learn how to restore cars. Support was also offered to the local community in the form of a donation to the Palm Beach Police and Fire Department Foundation. The award for the Overall Outstanding Ferrari Granturismo went to the 1956 Ferrari 410 Superamerica s/n 0483 SA owned by American collector Anne Brockinton Lee. Exhibited at the Paris Motor Show in 1956, this specimen boasts a spectacular shape complemented by the high rear fins that were to become a particular feature of the cars, especially (but not only) the American ones, produced over the following years. This specimen, featuring many special parts, is based on the type 514 chassis, with a wheelbase of 2600 mm. This is combined with the 126/c engine delivering 340 HP, which was the higher-power 12-cylinder, 5-liter unit supplied by Ferrari at the time. The car is equipped with dual ignition, and therefore has a remarkable 24 spark plugs. Named Superfast I, to distinguish it from the later series of Ferrari Superfasts, it has a top speed of almost 300 km/h (about 186 mph). Conceived for the American market, it was imported into the United States (destination Los Angeles) immediately after the Paris Motor Show. It has had a long series of owners, all American except for an English collector who had the car from 1980 to 1984. It joined its current collection in 2004. The 1953 Ferrari 250 MM Berlinetta Pinin Farina s/n 0258 MM, owned by American collector Brian Ross, was selected as the Overall Outstanding Ferrari Competition car. Wearing race number 627, it made its debut at the Mille Miglia on 26 April 1953, driven by Count Bruno Sterzi and Giulio Rovelli. One of the only 18 cars in the 250 MM Berlinetta series produced with the 3-liter, 240 HP engine and 2390 mm wheelbase, this version was conceived for endurance races, especially the Mille Miglia and Carrera Panamericana. Its racing vocation is immediately obvious: you can’t help but notice that the bodywork and passenger compartment are devoid of any esthetic adornment and equipped only with the bare essentials. After the Mille Miglia, 250 MM s/n 0258 MM continued its racing career, competing in the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti (with Franco Cornacchia at the wheel) and the 12 Hours of Pescara (driven by Franco Cornacchia and Antonio Stagnoli) in July and August 1953 respectively. In the summer of 1956, the car, imported into the USA, began its American racing career with driver George Arents before being sold in early 1957. It has been in its current collection since 2013 and was recently restored in the exact configuration it had at the time of its debut Mille Miglia. In what is a complete novelty for the Cavallino Classic, a third Best of Show prize was assigned. The Overall Outstanding Ferrari Classiche Certified prize, for the most deserving car equipped with the “Red Book”, went to the 1971 512 M s/n 1020 owned by American collector Lawrence Auriana, which ran in the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans. Representing N.A.R.T. team, it was driven by Sam Posey and Tony Adamowicz. They finished third overall, and first among the Ferraris, recording the best finish ever for a 512 in the French marathon race. This also turned out to be the best race result in the history of the car. S/n 1020 had actually made its debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 1971, driven by Sam Posey and Peter Revson, and had also raced in the 12 Hours of Sebring in March, driven by Peter Revson and Swede Savage, but on both these occasions it had failed to finish. After Le Mans, s/n 1020 competed in the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen, with Sam Posey and Ronnie Bucknum driving (dnf), and then in the Can-Am race, also at Watkins Glen, driven by Sam Posey, where it finished sixth overall. The highpoint for this 512 M came in September 1974 when, driven by Luigi Chinetti Jr., Paul Newman, and Graham Hill, it set the world speed record on the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats Race Track. On that occasion, it notched up 5 world record speeds, including the one over 10 miles, in which it recorded an average speed of 174.763 mph (281.254 km/h). At this year’s Palm Beach event, there was a really unforgettable moment when the current owner came on to the Cavallino Classic stage to collect the trophy accompanied by Luigi Chinetti Jr. and one of the mechanics who had looked after the car both at Le Mans and at Bonneville. Some of the best Ferraris in the world will be on display for the Concours on January 28, including legendary cars that competed in the iconic endurance race. The world’s largest Ferrari-only event isn’t based in Italy, but in Florida. The Palm Beach Cavallino Classic Concorso d'Eleganza holds this distinction, hosting Ferraris from all eras of the company’s long history. Taking place January 26-29 in Palm Beach, one doesn’t need to own a Ferrari to enjoy the action and this year’s event is special. The Italian brand pays homage to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Among the many Ferraris gracing the lawn for the Concours on Saturday, January 28, will be cars that have raced at Le Mans over the years. Ferrari’s first appearance at the endurance race came in 1949; it marked the start of a legacy leading to dozens of class wins and nine overall victories. As such, this year’s Cavallino Classic Concorso d'Eleganza at The Breakers Hotel is a rare opportunity to see some of these special vehicles together in one location, competing for the attention of judges and spectators alike in a dedicated Le Mans category. "Ferrari has been a major protagonist in Le Mans for decades, and we felt the need to celebrate this incredible milestone with a great lineup of Ferraris that made the history of the world’s most celebrated race," said Cavallino and Canossa Chairman and CEO Luigi Orlandini. Here’s what happened if you missed it, but don’t miss it again. At Tampa’s Armature Works, Rides by the River made for a high-octane Saturday morning. Jam-packed with exotic cars and enthusiasts to appreciate them, the event proved once again a great way to witness incredible automobiles and chat about them with fellow luxury and performance car fanatics. Along with that, a plethora of donations for Toys for Tots made the show’s heartwarming aspect a huge success. With some of the world’s greatest in the names of luxury and performance on display at Saturday’s event, the only way to improve the morning was with some incredible partners, and that’s exactly what happened. Driving Through Tuscany: "Beyond By Four Seasons" Experie...

Exceptional culture, cuisine, and incredible cars created Tuscan memories to last a lifetime. At the end of September, the roads of Tuscany echoed with the sounds of extraordinary vehicles while the halls of Four Seasons Hotel Firenze filled with vibrant conversation and camaraderie. These are the takeaways from Beyond by Four Seasons, An Exclusive Driving Journey Through Tuscany – a week-long adventure of cars and culture curated by Canossa Events and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. To say it was a success is a tremendous understatement. The video at the top of this article offers a sample of the experience. A diverse group of enthusiasts ventured from Canada, the United States, India, Dubai, and Korea to enjoy the luxurious Beyond by Four Seasons experience. Spanning September 24-30, guests for this first-ever event enjoyed private wine tasting, fantastic cuisine, exclusive tours of venues typically closed to the public, a fabulous night at the opera, and much more. Amidst these events, attendees soaked up the famous roads of central Italy behind the wheels of iconic modern and classic cars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Fiat, and others. Smiles captured on video and in photos convey the essence of this bespoke experience. Fortunately, there are more adventures to come. With Tuscany now in the rearview mirror, Canossa Events and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts are looking forward to events in Europe and the U.S. planned for 2023. Expect a sweeping experience through Switzerland, France, and Italy, tackling the legendary alpine roads of the region. The 2022 Wynn Las Vegas Concours d'Elegance Is An Emergin...

It's Sunday morning, October 30th, and the iconic Las Vegas Strip is filled not with taxis and rentals but dozens of classic cars and modern exotics. I'm behind the wheel of a 2023 Rolls-Royce Phantom, making my way through the pack. This short drive is the final send-off to the inaugural Wynn Las Vegas Concours d'Elegance, an emerging car show with ambitions to compete with the best around the globe. Stepping onto the lawn for the first time, the most striking aspect of the show was the sheer variety of vehicles. The main event occurred on Saturday, October 29th, at the Wynn Golf Club and included 230 cars judged across 15 classes. The participating vehicles represented every era, from a 1933 Duesenberg "20 Grand", which went on to win the Best of Show Pre-War award, to the latest hypercars from Bugatti, McLaren, and Ferrari. Aside from the usual suspects, the show even brought out machines rarely seen, like three participants from Vector Motors. One thing to note is that the Wynn Golf Club is massive, spanning 6,722 yards. Its size made the 230 participating vehicles feel like a relatively small amount. It was refreshing to see just how much space there was between the cars, and despite having a few thousand people in attendance, the lawn never felt crowded. Next year's show could easily host 100 more vehicles without impacting attendees' experience. The show served both participating vehicles and manufacturers alike. Rolls-Royce, Bentley, McLaren, and Ferrari brought out cars, allowing attendees to experience their latest products in person and see how well they fit in with the rest of the show. There were two Best of Show winners. The first was the 1933 Duesenberg "20 Grand" mentioned above, presented by The Nethercutt Collection. According to Wynn Las Vegas, the car got its nickname for its $20,000 asking price during the height of the Great Depression, an era when cars typically cost between $600-$800. The Best of Show Post-War winner was a 1951 Delahaye 235 presented by Peter and Merle Mullin of the Mullin Museum. According to Wynn Las Vegas, this particular example is the fifth of only 84 produced between 1951 and 1954 by the French carmaker. For folks who just want a nice day out with great weather, food, and cars, the Wynn Las Vegas Concours d'Elegance is the show for them. As a first-year attendee, one of the show's greatest strengths was the resort itself. With the lawn only a short walk away from my room, and an abundance of fantastic food on offer, the whole day had a very laid-back, relaxed feeling. As for its future, I'd wager it'll be a bright one. Next year, the show will take place alongside the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which should bring more people, cars, and fun activities for all.

32nd Palm Beach Cavallino Classic Honors Ferrari's Legacy...

On January 28, the lawns of The Breakers will host 24 Ferraris that competed in the iconic 24-hour endurance race. Every January, the warm sun of Palm Beach, Florida is home to the largest Ferrari-only auto event in the world. The Palm Beach Cavallino Classic Concorso d'Eleganza is a celebration of all things Ferrari, and for the 32nd edition, special attention is directed to Ferrari and the world's most iconic endurance race – the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Taking place January 26-29 at The Breakers in Palm Beach, this year's Cavallino Classic will include 150 Ferraris spanning decades of Prancing Horse production. Several Ferrari anniversaries will be celebrated for this special event, including 70 years of the 250 MM, 340 MM, 625 TF, and the 735 Sport, all of which arrived in 1953. The 1963 Ferrari 330 MM, 330 LMB, and 250 P celebrate their 60th anniversary. The headlining act for this year's event, however, is Ferrari's long and storied history with Le Mans. 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the legendary race; Ferrari first competed in 1949 and has earned dozens of class wins with 9 overall victories in the years since. 24 special Ferraris that competed at Le Mans over the years will grace the lawn of The Breakers in the main class on January 28. "Ferrari has been a major protagonist in Le Mans for decades, and we felt the need to celebrate this incredible milestone with a great lineup of Ferraris that made the history of the world’s most celebrated race," said Cavallino and Canossa Chairman and CEO Luigi Orlandini. The Bridge VI: An Event In A League Of Its Own

As you step off the luxury shuttle to enter the event, and you look out over the field past the Richard Mille Boutique and the Rolls-Royce ice cream station, you begin to realize that The Bridge is unlike any automotive event on the planet. The story begins in 1957 when The Bridgehampton Race Circuit opened its gates with its beachy feel and stunning views of the ocean. It was an extremely demanding racetrack in an unimaginable location. Mario Andretti, Stirling Moss, and even Paul Newman spent time racing there and all had incredible things to say about the thrilling danger of its blind corners and infamous hills. (All Images Taken By Kieran Buttrick) When the track closed and was turned into a luxury golf course, Bob Rubin, Shamin Abas, and Jeffrey Einhorn took matters into their own hands and created this exclusive annual event in this historic and iconic location. The team was able to seamlessly intertwine the glories of the automotive past with the advancements of the future. It preserves and strides ahead in a way that is unmatched by anyone else in the industry. We here at duPont REGISTRY attend exclusive events around the globe, many of which of them manage to have the same look and feel––rows of booths snaking through impressively designed displays, with the occasional auction here and there. They are either hyper-focused on the latest launch from manufacturers or on the judging of the world's premier cars on the concours lawn. That is why The Bridge is in a league of its own, it has an entirely different feel. Let me explain: although the event has sponsors and vendors like any other, they place them throughout the event in a way that gives you a sense of discovery, the sense that you have just happened across them on your own. Nothing is in your face and everyone and everything feels approachable. Not to mention the fact that the field is filled with the top people in the automotive industry and beyond. As you walk throughout the field you hear passionate conversations between people connecting over their love of cars. From the top people at massive luxury automotive brands to Jon Bon Jovi, everyone gets to share this magical experience. The event's vibe and feel were second to none, but, let's be honest: we were there for the cars. The entrance was filled with all of the latest and greatest Super and Hypercars starting with the all-new Delage D12 and then down the line to our friends at Hennessy, Rimac, Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Koenigsegg, Pagani, and much more. Each brand brought out its latest and greatest model in order to create an array of automotive metal that many will never get the chance to see. As you made your way down to the lower fields it was as though you had gone back in time to see the world’s most unique pieces of automotive history. The first thing that stood out was not only one, but two DeTomaso Guara’s, something that very few have ever seen. And that was just the beginning; these incredible vehicles––whether they be race cars or the dozens finished in Mint Green––were strategically parked by their owners and collectors throughout the multiple show fields in a way that kept you engaged the entire time. And just when I thought I had seen everything, I walked down what used to be the main straight through a narrow path. And there, perched on top of a hill, was a 1960 Porsche 718 RS 60 and a 1969 Porsche 908-02. Two cars with insane provenance right there before my eyes. Not to mention a handful of AMG Hammers, a Chromaflair GT2RS, the all-new Kimera––I could go on for days. Overlooking the event from the far end, with the sun setting behind my back and a selection of expertly curated vehicles as far as the eye can see, I couldn’t have been happier about my trip to the northeast. I don't plan on ever missing this event in the years to come. The Bridge has continued to grow for the past 6 plus years, I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them. 2022 Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week Recap and Awar...

A look at one of the Northeast's most prestigious events. The 2022 edition of the Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week has come and gone, leaving fantastic memories, images, and awards behind. For the prominent concourse event, 65 judges from five countries and 180 cars from the USA and Europe showed up in hopes of taking home one of the prestigious class awards. As the automobiles laid out on the lawn at The Breakers mansion, the former home of the Vanderbilt family, the judges and guests perused around each and every one of them. For the guests, it was a chance to see some incredibly rare models that are hardly ever shown. As for the judges, they peered over every detail in search of the class winners. For the coveted Best In Show award, which was given to the 1930 Bentley Speed Six owned by William Medcalf of Vintage Bentley (seen above). The People's Choice award was handed to the 1931 Bugatti Type 51 Dubos Coupe from the Nethercutt Collection (seen below). People Choice award winner “I am proud of everyone involved with this year’s event and thrilled we were able to give car people the opportunity to get together and share their stories and create new memories,” said Audrain CEO Donald Osborne. “We were thrilled to share Newport with everyone in attendance and I am sure they came away with a newfound love for our island and the hospitality they received.
