GAA Classic Car Auction Sets New Sales & Attendance Records

Greensboro is quickly eclipsing many other automotive meccas, because GAA Classic Car Auction set new sales and attendance records. The last weekend in February were marked by bitter cold across the Piedmont, but it didn't stop our friends from selling 94% of consignments. With 650 classics and collectibles, the event exceeded $19 million thanks to several heavy hitters. Held at "The Automobile Palace", over 1,000 bidders fought over a collection of 10 Chryslers from 1959. All from the same collector in Bristol, TN sold for a combined $580,000. The highest bids were for a 2017 Ford GT Heritage Edition that hammered for $1.04 million, the most expensive car in their history. Their YouTube channel received nearly 50,000 views, and it will also be replayed on MAV TV on March 25th at 7pm ET. Next month they will offer an additional 650 cars with 150 at no reserve, so stay with us for complete coverage of the event. Browse GAA Catalog

Automotive Mike produces amazing videos, so he is often invited to the world's best events. The Swiss Alps are the perfect backdrop for a supercar showdown, although the altitude leaves naturally aspirated cars at a disadvantage. Nevertheless, being the crossroads of Europe, it allows Italians, Germans, French, Austrians, and nearly every nationality to be represented. Here is a short list of attendees: Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Bugatti Chiron Sport Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse Bugatti Veyron L'Or Blanc Bugatti Veyron Supersport Ferrari 488 Pista Ferrari 599 GTZ Nibbio Zagato Ferrari Enzo Ferrari F12tdf Ferrari LaFerrari Koenigsegg Agera R Koenigsegg Agera X Koenigsegg ONE:1 Koenigsegg Regera Lamborghini Aventador SVJ McLaren Senna Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series Mercedes C63 S AMG Mercedes SLR McLaren Roadster Pagani Huayra BC Pagani Huayra Roadster Pagani Zonda Cinque Pagani Zonda F Pagani Zonda Unica Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach Porsche Carrera GT While each one can be a museum piece, we are thankful for drivers who enjoy their cars in action. 2020 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Cancelled

Although there are signs of hope, the largest car show of the year has been canceled. Below is the press release we received last night: PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (April 22, 2020) — Knowing that entrants, judges, volunteers and guests face ongoing health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, officials of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance have decided to cancel the Show which was scheduled for August 16, 2020.  “My heart goes out to all of the people who are involved in the Pebble Beach Concours and who are impacted by this decision,” said Concours Chairman Sandra Button. “Many of our entrants have been working on a special car for years, and this was to be their moment. Some of our overseas entrants were nearing the point of putting their cars on boats and planes, and their own travel arrangements have long been made. The same is true for many of our international cadre of judges.” “We thank all of the enthusiasts who have gathered at Pebble Beach time and again to renew long-standing friendships, celebrate great cars and give so generously to Concours charities — and who have already expressed their support for the coming celebration no matter the date.”  The car selection process for the 70th Pebble Beach Concours, which was scheduled for Sunday, August 16, 2020, was recently completed, and entrants were notified of their acceptance earlier this month. The acceptance letters stressed that these cars were invited to appear at the 70th celebration — even if it was delayed.  With the cancellation of this year’s event, the 70th Pebble Beach Concours will now take place on Sunday, August 15, 2021.  Features will remain as planned, with a display of past Best of Show winners along the edge of Stillwater Cove, and special classes focusing on Pininfarina coachwork, Porsche 917, Talbot-Lago Grand Sport, Miller racing, Iso, Early Electrics and the Carrera Panamericana. “Pebble Beach Company has been pleased to host this event since its beginning, and we look forward to hosting the 70th celebration in 2021,” said Company CEO William L. Perocchi. “This event does more than celebrate great cars; it benefits so many people in need. Ultimately, the continued health and safety of everyone associated with the Concours is our number one priority, which led us to this difficult decision.  We recognize that canceling the 2020 Event will be disappointing to many, although we are confident it is appropriate under these unique circumstances.”  All tickets purchased to date for the 70th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will be valid for the event on Sunday, August 15, 2021. Ticket purchasers who cannot attend the 70th Concours on its new 2021 date, can request a refund by emailing info@pebblebeachconcours.net.

Detroit & Paris Auto Shows Cancelled

Social media and the rise of Virtual Dealers have been chipping away at the auto show industry. Now with the world locked down to prevent the virus from spreading, both the Detroit and Paris auto shows have been canceled. The latest news from Detroit was posted to the North American International Auto Show website. Although the show was scheduled for June, FEMA is building a temporary triage center for the infected at TCF Center. On the other side of the Atlantic, the City of Lights does not want to put their public in further danger. These are smart moves by both cities, and we hope the shows can be rescheduled for later this year. Stay with us for all your automotive event news. 2020 Amelia Island Concours Recap

Timing makes all the difference. Bill Warner and his team started a small car show 25 years ago, and a majority of them have fell victim to Florida's erratic weather. It appears as if the curse has been lifted, as we enjoyed perfect weather. With so much to see and do during the weekend, we figured you would like to see a 2020 Amelia Island Concours recap. As a native of Amelia Island, I attended the first show at age 10. Since then, it has attracted several auctions, private unveilings, and a Porsche Werks Reunion. Our focus was on saturating the attendees with our latest issue. For complete coverage, we took the high ground of the 1st fairway. The MotorXpo was the entrance and exit for Saturday's Cars & Coffee show. As the public got a preview of the show field, Roger Penske was giving a seminar on his early racing years. As always, we could not attend this show without the support of our clients. That is why our friends at Specialty Vehicle Engineering stole the show by awakening a new 2020 Yenko 1000 Camaro. It was parked next to their 455 horsepower Syclone truck. A freshly restored 2006 Hummer H1 Alpha from Hummer1.com towered over a Vanderhall Venice. Next to them was a 2018 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet from World Imports (Lotus of Jacksonville). Luxury Lease Partners offered 0% interest to drive the world's best cars, and Airstream arrived in the all-new 2020 Interstate. After wowing the crowds, we awoke Sunday after losing an hour to Daylight Saving Time. Each one of us had a mission to cover the show's themed presentations. GM brought every mid-engine Corvette prototype to inspire a new generation of owners. McLaren unveiled the 765LT and took our breath away. Iconic Team Penske cars were shown in public for the first time in years. Lotus unveiled the Evija while the De Tomaso P72 roared with Ford ferocity. Apollo's latest IE looked into the future, much like Harley Earl's concepts did for the Greatest Generation. Tell us which car you want to see in person and stay with us for more amazing events.
