Ferrari 488 Spider: Maranello's New Turbocharged Convertible

Ferrari has once again outdone themselves. Shortly after introducing us to the 458 Speciale, Ferrari added another supercar to their big, Italian family – the 488 GTB - with a February 2015 teaser video that set the industry ablaze with anticipation. This comes 40 years after the unveiling of Ferrari’s first mid-rear-engined V8 model, the 308 GTB. Powered by a twin turbo 3.9-liter V8, the 488 delivers 660 horsepower and launches from 0 to 62 mph in just three seconds. With top speeds exceeding 205 mph, it’s no wonder the 488 has a Fiorano lap time of 1 minute and 23 seconds, matching the lap time set by the Ferrari F12berlinetta. The 488 even beats out the F12 when it comes to torque, exuding 560 pound-feet of torque, besting the F12berlinetta by 51. Governing it all is the Variable Torque Management system, implemented for controllable release of turbo power. With knowledge gained from decades of development, the 488 is sure to meet Ferrari’s impossibly high-performance standards with ease. The latest Italian stallion is shaping up to be an automotive beast and one of the most capable production Ferrari models ever created.Complete Ferrari 488 Specs, Prices & ReviewAs if Ferrari hadn’t shaken things up enough with the release of the 488 GTB, the brand behind the prancing horse revealed the supercar’s convertible counterpart, the 488 Spider. This makes the car the most powerful mid-rear-engined V8 automobile to feature their patented retractable hard top. Under the hood is the same turbocharged engine that lives in the 488 GTB, capable of producing 660 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. For an exhilarating open-air drive, retract the top and hit the gas – the 488 Spider can reach 62 mph from a complete standstill in only 3 seconds, coming to 124 mph 5.7 seconds later. Ferrari used 11 different aluminum alloys to create the car’s chassis, giving it the same rigid torso and beam stiffness as its coupe alternative. In fact, this hardware accounts for the 488 Spider surpassing its predecessor, the 458 Spider, in several areas: a 23 percent increase in chassis performance, a 12 percent increase in corner acceleration and a 9 percent increase in response time. Regardless of which model you choose you will be sure to leave behind a lasting impression. By The Numbers: 2018 Ferrari GTC4Lusso

Ferrari’s new Italian four-seater brings out the best in performance, sportiness, and elegance. The automaker is hailing the GTC4Lusso as “a major evolution of the sporting Grand Tourer concept.” How is this new model such an evolution? With the addition of rear-wheel steering combined with four-wheel drive. If the GTC4Lusso looks familiar, it’s because it replaces the FF, Ferrari’s previous four-seater model. What also may be familiar is its name, which Ferrari says “references its illustrious predecessors,” including the 330 GTC, 330 GT and 250 GT. And, like the GTC4Lusso’s predecessors, it comes with a V12 engine. Financial Street Beijing. This time, however, its power is rated at an impressive 680 hp at 8,000 rpm and 514 lb-ft of torque at 5,750 rpm, with 80% of its power at just 1,750 rpm, making for a 0-62 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 208 mph. It’s not too often that you can reach those types of speeds in a four-seater weighing in dry at 3,946 lbs. These figures have also increased over the previous FF model (650 hp and 504 lb-ft). Helping the wheels stay connected to the ground below is Ferrari’s patented 4RM Evo four-wheel drive system, which now has rear-wheel steering for the first time. Ferrari also updated their Slip Slide Control (version 4.0) with an electronic differential (E-Diff) and SCN0E dampers. If you thought the FF could handle snowy and wet roads well, wait until you get behind the wheel of the GTC4Lusso. The GTC4Lusso’s interior houses an array of standard Ferrari luxuries, like fine leather, a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen and what the automaker calls Dual Cockpit architecture.Boasting versatility and elegance, Ferrari’s new four-seater offers extreme performance and sophisticated luxury.PRICE: TBDENGINE: 6.3-liter V12HORSEPOWER: 680TORQUE: 514 lb-ft0-62: 3.4 secondsTOP SPEED: 208 mphTRANSMISSION: 7-speed dual clutch

LaFerrari By The Numbers

You balked at the Prius in 2001. You snickered at the Tesla in 2008. Now, you’re clamoring for not just a Ferrari, but the Ferrari with battery power. The first Ferrari with hybrid technology just happens to be the most provocative, representing a new era of exotics that are made more efficient through electrical motors. We know 330 grams of carbon dioxide for every kilometer may not pique the interest of most automotive enthusiasts, but it was a number proudly promoted by Ferrari when it unveiled the Ferrari Enzo’s long-awaited successor. With Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) rising in the United States and the European Union looking at new rules to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from passenger vehicles, even a division as small and as niche as Ferrari has to look at ways to become more environmentally friendly. To put the new number into perspective, the Aventador LP700-4 is rated at 398, and the Prius scores an 89. Even more telling, the Ferrari Enzo emitted 545 grams. While a limited run of 499 units (perhaps it is saving the 500th unit for the pope as it did with the 400th Enzo) may not have a huge effect on the overall state of the environment, a small production run allows Ferrari to experiment with new technological solutions that will filter down to the rest of the lineup. In this case, it is a system derived from its F1 Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), called the Hybrid Kinetic Energy Recovery System (HY-KERS). It started with the 6.3-liter V-12 also found in the F12. In the LaFerrari, the engine has been tweaked to produce more high-end grunt, relying on the electric motor’s torque for more of the low-to-mid-range power. The result is another 1,000 rpm and an additional 59 ponies to play with. Or, to be more specific, 788 horsepower at an amazing 9,250 rpm. That electric motor also contributes 161 horsepower to the total output, equaling 949 horsepower. The electric motor’s battery pack is attached to the floor of the chassis, channels its energy through the seven-speed dual clutch transmission, and is recharged while braking as in a normal hybrid. Ferrari will even redirect what it deems unnecessary torque, as can happen in corners, away from the rear wheels to be converted into electrical energy for the battery cells. The result is performance levels unmatched by any other Ferrari as confirmed by a lap time at Fiorano of one minute and 20 seconds. That’s five seconds faster than the Enzo and three seconds faster than the F12 Berlinetta, making the LaFerrari the fastest road car in the Italian brand’s history. Other notable performance statistics include 0-60 mph in fewer than three seconds, 0-124 in fewer than seven seconds and a top speed in excess of 217 mph.Price: $1,700,000Engine: 6.3-liter V-12Horsepower: 9490-60: Under 3.0 secondsTop Speed: 217+ mphTransmission: 7-speed dual-clutchTorque: 664+ foot-poundsPro: Usher in a new era of Ferraris with electric motorsCon: Spent so little time on the name

Are You Ready for the Lamborghini Urus?

A Lamborghini SUV makes sense. Especially one with 600 hp, rear-biased all-wheel drive, head-twisting sports-coupe styling and trash can sized 23-inch rims. Which is why the Italian bull-worker has been testing the waters with its stunning, swoopy-roofed Urus concept cross-over. Fact is, Lamborghini can’t grow just by cranking out low-slung, high-horsepower supercars, no matter how gorgeous we think the Aventador and Gallardo are. These are big-boy toys with a demand that ebbs and flows with the economy. Now an SUV, that’s a real car. A daily driver. A car for the Chinesecaptain of industry to be chauffeured in. The Dubai oil baron to go play with falcons in. Demand could possibly be as high as 3,000 a year. Just look at Range Rover. Or Porsche with the Cayenne Turbo. Heck, Bentley’s even thinking of getting in on the act. And there’s history here. Back in ‘85, Lamborghini gave the world, and the Italian army, the LM002, a rugged SUV on steroids, powered by a 444 hp Countach V-12. Ahead of its time, it faded before the sport-ute boom of the crazy ‘90s. Looking for all the world like an over-sized Range Rover Evoque, the Urus is all origami creases, big blistered wheel arches and front air intakes and slatted grilles that wouldn’t look out of place on a skyscraper HVAC unit. Don’t bother asking what’s under the hood, because chances are it’s irrelevant as right now Lamborghini doesn’t have a powerplant that can (a) fit under the Urus’ door-wedge hood line—a Gallardo V-10 might just at a squeeze—or (b) provide the kind of fuel economy, sustainability, and emissions to meet upcoming government standards. But as Lamborghini is part of the ever-burgeoning VW Group, there’s a lot that Audi/VW/Bentley/Porsche/Bugatti are working on that might provide a future solution. And that naturally includes hybrid-electrics. Don’t get attached to that broad-shouldered body styling either. Even if the Urus got a production green light this year, a production version would be unlikely to arrive before the end of the year. Car design will have moved on dramatically by them. Let’s hope the same applies to that oddball name. In true Lamborghini tradition, it has bull connotations—Urus was the wild ancestor to the modern domesticated cow. But being an SUV, and a Lamborghini one at that, we’re just disappointed the concept didn’t come with a set of sturdy ‘bull’ bars.

2017 Koenigsegg Regera Price, Review, Specs and Pics

The world’s fastest and most powerful production car is here: the Koenigsegg Regera. At the heart of the Regera is a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 engine connected to three electric motors. Combine their power output and the Regera pumps out 1,500+ hp and 1,475+ lbft of torque. The Regera will be, according to Koenigsegg, “the King of the Road, as the fastest accelerating, most powerful production car ever.” The Regera is a new breed of car that utilizes Koenigsegg Direct Drive Transmission (KDD). This new system was developed by Christian von Koenigsegg and it creates “direct drive to rear axle from the combustion engine without the need of multiple gears or other traditional types of variable transmissions, with inherently high energy losses.” SPECS PRICE: $1,890,000 ENGINE: Twin-Turbo 5.0-liter V8 + Electric Motors HORSEPOWER: 1,500+ TORQUE: 1,475+ lb-ft 0-60: 2.8 seconds TOP SPEED: 248 mph The magic lies in placing a revolutionary new torque converter between the flywheel and the 2.73 differential, giving it the ability to completely disconnect the engine from the road. The converter’s shell acts as a rotor in an AC generator, with a giant stator taking the place of a traditional bellhousing. At low speeds the V8 is used to generate electricity for the motors on the rear axles, making the car very efficient. Combine the massive amounts of power, a new transmission and the car’s curb weight of 3,589 pounds, and the Regera will rocket from 0-248 mph in just 20 seconds. Its exterior also features a number of mechanics that make it the “first fully robotized car.” Every single body closure, including the engine cover, boot, doors and convertible top, can be operated from a remote or Smartphone. Koenigsegg claims this turns the Regera “into a Transformer.” Inside the Regera is an incredibly quiet ride, thanks to the new sub frame and rear structure. This allows the engine and transmission to rest on “active soft mount,” giving the car a smooth and quiet ride. If you thought the Koenigsegg Regera was going to be a rare bird, you would be correct. Only 80 examples of the car will be created. Additionally, this will be the first time Koenigsegg will have two parallel models in production. All Koenigsegg For Sale Buy Now

2017 Cadillac CTS-V Review, Specs and Pics

Cadillacs have long been a symbol of reward. For more than a decade, Cadillac V-Series drivers have been rewarded with dual-purpose luxury performers: sophisticated luxury cars on the road with true track capability right from the factory. And now, the 2017 Cadillac CTS-V super sedan and 2017 Cadillac ATS-V sedan and coupe are the most capable V-Series ever. The 2017 Cadillac CTS-V super sedan is the third generation of the acclaimed luxury high-performance sedan that launched the brand’s elite V-Series a decade ago and helped redefine Cadillac for a new generation of drivers. After a sold-out 2016 model year, the Cadillac CTS-V returns for the 2017 model year to a four-month-long waiting list of orders.Powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine SAE-certified at 640 horsepower (477kW) and 630 lb-ft of torque (855 Nm), the 2017 Cadillac CTS-V is the most powerful production Cadillac ever. With more horsepower and torque than the Mercedes-Benz 5.5-liter biturbo V-8 and the BMW M-series 4.4-liter TwinPower (twin-turbo) V-8, the CTS-V is capable of 0-60 mph sprints in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 200 mph. The only thing this 200 mph super sedan cannot keep up with is demand. The Cadillac ATS-V coupe and sedan are powered by the Cadillac twin-turbo V-6 engine, rated at an SAE-certified 464 horsepower (346 kW) and 445The Cadillac ATS-V coupe and sedan are powered by the Cadillac twin-turbo V-6 engine, rated at an SAE-certified 464 horsepower (346 kW) and 445 lb-ft of torque (601 Nm)-- a variant of the same engine powers the championship-winning 2016 Cadillac ATS-V.R Coupe Pirelli World Challenge race car. The combination of engine output and lightweight, yet strong, structure allows for 0-60 mph runs in 3.8 seconds and a segment-best top speed of 189 mph. That’s quicker and faster than the second generation Cadillac CTS-V.View the Worlds Coolest Cars For Sale“Experience to develop a fast car that inspires confidence,” said Tony Roma, V-Series Chief Engineer. “The V-Series models feel planted while retaining the fun-to-drive quality, allowing the driver to feel comfortable exploring the performance.” Roma, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lawrence Technological University and a Masters degree in Engineering from Purdue, has been involved with every V-Series product. He traveled with the Pirelli World Challenge championship-winning Cadillac Racing team for the first two seasons as the powertrain team manager. After working with the race program, Roma spent three years as the Senior Manager for the High-Performance Vehicle Operations group, where he was able to apply Cadillac Racing technology to the V-Series street cars. The foundation of the Cadillac V-Series is the same award-winning rear-wheel-drive architecture underpinning the ATS sedan and coupe and the CTS sedan. All rear-wheel-drive Cadillacs have some level of track capability; however, the Cadillac V-Series incorporates unique performance elements, components from world-class performance automotive suppliers and segment-leading, company-exclusive technology. The Cadillac ATS-V is available as either a sedan or coupe with a choice of a paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission or six-speed manual transmissionwith No-Lift shifting and Active Rev Match on downshifts. The Cadillac CTS-V comes as a sedan model with a paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission. Both vehicles have standard Launch Control.Almost every exterior panel on the Cadillac V-Series is unique – from the fascias and front fenders to the carbon-fiber hoods, rear spoilers and rocker moldings, and every panel were designed to support the cars’ capabilities, contributing to lifting reduction, enhanced cooling, and improved aero management. An available carbon fiber package takes aero performance and dramatic styling to higher levels. Lightweight, forged alloy wheels – 18-inch on the ATS-V and 19-inch on the CTS-V – wrapped with specially developed Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer-only tires enable nearly 1g in lateral acceleration. A Brembo brake system provides durability, consistency, and the capability for all-day track performance. The brakes were designed specifically for the V-Series and are patterned after the brake system on the Cadillac ATS-V.R Coupe race car. Segment-best, third-generation Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) damping and segment-exclusive Performance Traction Management (PTM) software are standard on the Cadillac V-Series and deliver greater body motion control at high speeds for a more agile feel, while maintaining excellent ride quality. Magnetic Ride Control “reads” the road a thousand times per second, sending data to magnetorheological fluid-filled dampers that can independently control the damping characteristics of all four dampers. In fact, at 60 mph, the third-generation Magnetic Ride Control system calculates the optimal damping force for every inch of the road.Performance Traction Management software was derived from the Cadillac Racing program for the V-Series and implements appropriate measures of electronic assistance, matched for driver skill or road condition, according to a real-time algorithm. Five driver-selectable modes specifically for the track – Wet, Dry, Sport 1, Sport 2 and Race – provide progressive levels of electronic assistance, adjusting traction and stability controls. The standard electronic limited-slip differential translates the PTM software to optimal traction and enables maximum corner exit acceleration.“Our systems are all integrated, which means the ABS, eLSD, ESC, magnetic dampers, steering, and powertrain on a V-Series vehicle work together,” said Roma. “Our ‘driver command interpreter’ real-time algorithm is trying to predict what the driver is really asking the car to do. It’s intelligent in the sense that it makes predictions about factors, such as traction or driver intention based on the inputs the car receives and past driving trends. All of the vehicle’s controls then work in concert accordingly to maximize performance.” Roma said PTM helps with lap-time consistency, regardless of skill. “An extremely experienced driver might get a few faster laps in a session with everything off, but PTM will help all the laps be fast,” said Roma. “The different driving modes make the car comfortable for basically any level of driver skill. Feedback from drivers and owners has been awesome so far.”The Cadillac V-Series dual-purpose capabilities carry over to the interior, which is focused expressly on performance-driving ergonomics. Available 16-way-adjustable RECARO performance front seats are the lynchpins for the driving experience, with aggressive, adjustable bolsters that help hold the driver and front passenger in place during high-load cornering. Twenty-way-adjustable, semi-aniline leather-trimmed seats with sueded microfiber inserts are standard. An available sueded microfiber steering wheel and shift knob complement the seating. In addition to being some of the fastest high-dynamic vehicles, the Cadillac V-Series are also some of the most connected. The enhanced Cadillac CUE infotainment system is the centerpiece of the V-Series’ comprehensive collection of technologies, including standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto advanced smartphone integration and available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Bose Premium audio with Active Noise Cancellation technology is standard. The available Performance Data Recorder (PDR) enables drivers to record, view and analyze driving experiences by capturing real-time video, cabin audio and performance data. The system – which features an HD camera and performance data acquisition hardware – is controlled via Cadillac CUE’s color touchscreen. Recordings can be reviewed on the screen when the vehicle is parked or saved to an SD card to view or share from another device.PDR data can be analyzed using Cosworth Toolbox, a free suite of analysis software developed from racing analysis software and designed for usewith the PDR in the Cadillac ATS-V Coupe and Sedan and the Cadillac CTS-V super sedan. V-Series owners can use Cosworth Toolbox to review laps to quickly improve performance such as braking points, accelerating points, driving lines and corner speeds.
