80-Year-Old Legend Still Drives His Ferrari F40

It's time we all meet John, an 80-year-old who has a life that's involved quite a few automobiles. At a young age, he raced his mother's car in rallies and ended up getting into circuit racing. It seems as though he was born to drive. And now, decades later, John is still driving but he's doing it behind the wheel of one of the most legendary cars ever made: the Ferrari F40. In TheSUPERCARDRIVER's new video, John explains that he purchased his F40 as a car he could truly drive. He first saw the car at Silverstone when it was first debuted and he notes that he never would've imagined he would actually own it years later. Now, he's driving his F40 on the road as it should be. When it was created, Ferrari wanted to create the fastest road car and they succeeded when the F40 crossed the 200 mph mark-- emphasis on "road car." It's nice to see this F40 stretching its legs and being driven by a true driver. You can learn all about John and his cars in the video down below. See All Ferrari F40s For Sale

Why the Ferrari F40 Should be Part of your Collection

Everyone has that "one friend". The person you could call to get you out of a bad situation, or someone who watches enough forensic documentaries to help you eliminate the evidence. Having a Ferrari F40 in your garage is like keeping a machete next to your silverware. No matter what else is in your collection, the F40 will always evoke a notion that "one of these is not like the others". Precisely the feeling Enzo was aiming for with his final build. Follow along as we debunk the myths and silence the haters, because this is why the Ferrari F40 should be part of your collection. For the 40th anniversary of his company, he decided to rebuke the notions that Ferrari was becoming more luxury than performance. Taking lessons learned on the 288 GTO, stylists at Pininfarina sculpted a masterpiece of aerodynamic efficiency. Extensive use of Kevlar and carbon fiber took Ferrari into uncharted waters. You need an F40 because it is a Formula 1 car with a body that is technically street legal. Because it shares almost nothing with other Ferrari models, every component was designed to dominate. Driving this F40 LM was the opportunity of a lifetime Take a moment to consider the complexity of your daily driver. Several computers and a thousand miles of wiring work together to keep you entertained and divorced from the driving experience. The F40 has no radio or speakers. Turn your phone off because the turbos will not allow for civilized conversation. Many are quick to deride the car's abilities because magazine reviews cried about turbo lag. If you can't listen to your car, the F40 isn't for you. The center exhaust pipe is fed by the turbo's waste gates and it will teach you how to keep the car in boost. A small V8 with giant turbos demands more downshifts than anything you are accustomed to, but that is what makes it so rewarding. Without power steering, you will feel every nuance of the road and know exactly when the front tires will give up. Threshold braking is the art of stopping without ABS or even power brakes. You will also need to have the right shoes for heel-toe action, as it will keep you in boost through each shift. You must be able to interpret what you hear and feel and translate them into inputs the car can understand. After experiencing an F40, drivers fall into two categories: The first type are visibly shaken and usually require counseling, but the others ask if they can borrow it for the weekend. Ferrari will never build another supercar without power windows or paddle shifters, which is why you should experience the F40 for yourself. 1992 Ferrari F40 For Sale View Price & Details 1990 Ferrari F40 For Sale View Price & Details

Ferrari F40 Tribute is What We Need in the World

In the Ferrari's history, there are five halo supercars that reign supreme: the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo and LaFerrari. Sure, there are others that are important, like the 125S and 250 GTO, but these five cars are the ultimate Ferrari supercars. For me, the one halo car that will always hold a special place in my heart is the F40. This turbocharged monster from the 90's was, at the time, the company's most powerful, most expensive and most gorgeous car for sale. To celebrate the F40, designer Samir Sadikhov in early 2017 created his vision of the car that would honor its iconic status: the F40 Tribute. "For car designers like us, the F40 is a design icon," it says in the project's description. "Its combination of racing genes and minimalism generates an engaging aesthetic that continues to win hearts even today." Through the F40 Tribute's design, you can see that all of the F40's original features are present without being copied directly. He notes that he wanted people to sense the character resemblance without seeing it straight away. It took Sadikhov over one year to create the design. When you look at how detailed the F40 Tribute renderings are, the amount of time it took him to create the car it makes sense. He even went so far as to create a monocoque structure for the F40 Tribute! I think we can all agree that he not only kept the spirit of the F40 alive with this car but also made us want to see his creation in real life as this is just an artist's rendering for now and has no affiliation with Ferrari. You can learn more about the F40 Tribute here. Ferrari F40 GT Drifting Around Farm

The YouTube channel known as TaxTheRich100 is famous for taking the world's most exclusive cars and driving them in the most unconventional circumstances. For instance, they've taken a Rolls-Royce Wraith drifting through a garden and a Jaguar XJ220 (a personal favorite) whipping around dirt roads. Now they've presented us with a video of a Ferrari F40 GT spinning up its twin turbos and drifting through a farm. According to DKeng.co.uk, this F40 was the sixth F40 prototype and was on display at the 1987 Frankfurt Motorshow. Back in 1991, Michelotto converted the car to the CSAI GT spec you see now. After the conversion, the car went on to perform well in races, placing second overall in the Italian GT Championship. More recently, DK Engineering completed a full restoration on the car in 2013.It certainly takes skill to handle a car like the F40. The original Ferrari F40 houses a twin-turbo V8 engine, a five-speed manual transmission, and practically no assists. Essentially, when you drive this car it's a direct connection to the road. There aren't many of these cars in the world today, let alone a GT version, and I'm sure the other owners would never think to drive their F40 like this.Watch the video below and let us know what you think about the video in the comments below. Should a car like the F40 be driven like this? Would you take your hand at it?

Ferrari F40 Specs, Price, Photos & Review

Ferrari F40 ReviewDebuting in 1987, the Ferrari F40 specs were those of the quickest and most robust Ferrari model of its time. Their goal was to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the prominent brand. As such, the F40 was the last Ferrari to have a seal of approval given directly by Enzo Ferrari himself. The two-door Berlinetta-style, mid-engine supercar design focused solely on performance. Therefore, it is a top choice for those who cherish speed and superior performance above all else. As a result, the Ferrari F40 was featured in a number of racing events and competitions in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Production of the original models ceased in 1992, but LM/GTE race models continued to be produced until 1996. Ferrari F40 EngineA mid-engine model, the Ferrari F40 specs a 2.9-liter twin-turbo, rear mid-longitudinal V8 engine. With a horsepower production of 163 hp/liter and a maximum torque of 425 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm, it comes as no surprise that the F40 found its place in the field of competitive racing. This impressively robust engine, paired with an aerodynamic design, allows the sports car to reach top speeds of 201 mph. During its original production period, this was no small feat; the Ferrari F40 specs make it the first production car model to surpass the 200-mph mark. Even more thrilling for speed fanatics is the fact that it can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 4.1 seconds. Ferrari F40 Specs: Horsepower: 471 hpTorque: 425 lb-ft0-60 mph: 3.8 seconds1/4 Mile: 11.8 @ 124.5 mph60-0 mph: 119 ft Ferrari F40 TransmissionA conventional five-speed manual transmission is included as a standard in the Ferrari F40 specs. The inclusion of the five-speed transmission allows you to have a more hands-on experience while driving this sports car. For many supercar enthusiasts, this means a more enjoyable drive. It also means easier maintenance, better fuel economy and more control over the vehicle than manual transmissions can offer. With high speeds and a lightweight, aerodynamic design, the optimal control that the five-speed manual transmission provides is a crucial part of the Ferrari F40's allure. If you can't drive a gated Italian stick, you should probably reconsider your career in fast food.Ferrari F40 Goes For A Rallying Through Snow For A Camp Site Ferrari F40 BrakesThe original Ferrari F40 specs included the use of large ventilated disc brakes in the front and rear. At 13" in diameter, with four-piston aluminum Brembo calipers, these discs were manufactured specifically for the F40 model. A cast iron surface is paired with an aluminum center to prevent the addition of unnecessary weight. Drivers praise the authentic feel of these non-boosted brake pedals and have declared the brake pressure to be comparable to that of a servo-equipped braking system. The use of this braking system gives the Ferrari F40 specs a 70 to 0 mph braking distance of 218 feet. Many of the vehicles used in competitive racing, however, have had upgraded F40 LM brakes installed to reduce this distance. Ferrari F40 DesignThe designers of the Ferrari F40 specs strayed from focusing on aesthetics and luxurious comfort with this model. Instead, their intentions were to create a powerful and functional automobile. The result was an aerodynamic, lightweight and robust design. To ensure that the vehicle was strong, yet lightweight, panels made of Kevlar, carbon fiber and aluminum were used. Likewise, the windshield and windows are made of polycarbonate instead of traditional glass. Furthermore, the forward-sloping hood and the dimensions (171.6" L x 78" W and 44.3" H) were developed through intensive aerodynamics testing. It was to ensure that the design would allow for superior functionality. Ferrari F40 GT Drifting Around Farm Ferrari F40 PricesBecause the Ferrari F40 is no longer in production, the prices for this particular model can vary drastically. Like other used vehicles, the mileage, overall condition and the year that the car was manufactured all play a significant role in pricing. It is important to note, however, that production numbers of the Ferrari F40 specs out around 1,300. In turn, its status as an iconic supercar of the 1980's is also taken into consideration during pricing. As a general guideline, you can expect to pay anywhere between $400,000 to $1.5 million USD for a Ferrari F40 in mint condition. Ferrari F40 InteriorWith an exterior design that's focused on performance, the interior of the Ferrari F40 follows suit. To eliminate unnecessary weight, designers opted to forgo many typical additions to the interior. Features such as a glove box, carpeting, leather trim, door handles, panels and a sound system are missing from the model as a result. This contributes to a simplistic interior that is similar to the interior of a race car. The inside of the Ferrari F40 specs incorporate necessities, such as air conditioning, basic gauges, bucket seats, a steering wheel and a clutch. Ferrari F40 Standout FeaturesThe cutting-edge Ferrari F40 model has topped numerous lists, further highlighting it as one of the most iconic cars of the 1980's and 1990's. With a distinctive appearance, a lightweight body and an unparalleled performance. The Ferrari F40 was in a league of its own during its era. As the first production car to break the 200-mph mark, the super sports car is highly renowned, above all, for its speed. Other remarkable features of the F40 include its use of materials like Kevlar, carbon fiber and aluminum. It paved the way for the inclusion of these materials in models that came after it. A true trendsetter in the world of automobiles, the Ferrari F40 is remarkably aerodynamic and built to last.Browse Ferrari F40 For Sale

Ferrari F40 LM's Brutal Launches Are Pure Joy

For some reason, most likely due to my love for the car, I had a dream about owning a Ferrari F40 last night (I'm not bamboozling you all). In the dream, the F40 I owned wasn't the greatest looking one, in fact it was pretty torn up. But it didn't matter, because I owned what I think is the coolest Ferrari ever made.Ferrari F40 GT Drifting Around FarmLo-and-behold, I wake up this morning to drive what isn't my Ferrari F40, but at least NM2255 posted a video to help me cope. The star of the video is an extreme F40 LM letting loose at Goodwood. In the video's description, it notes that the "sound it makes is music to the ears!" I couldn't agree more. Now, if only I had the money, I'd pick up one of the many Ferrari F40s we have for sale.

Ferrari F40 Celebrates 30th Birthday

On July 21, 1987 at the Civic Centre in Maranello, Ferrari unveiled what would become one of their most iconic cars: the F40. Today, we celebrate the car's 30th birthday and recognize it as an automotive masterpiece.Ferrari first created the supercar to celebrate the company's 40th anniversary and it was the final car to carry Enzo Ferrari's true "signature." The F40 was truly an instant icon. Sylvester Stallone and a Ferrari F40 (1990)Powering the car is a larger version of the 288 GTO's twin-turbo 2855 cc V8 engine, which had a displacement of 2936 cc. The amount of force this engine could lay down through the five-speed manual transmission was rated 471 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque. Compare this to the 1988 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary's 455 hp and 369 lb-ft, and you'll see that Ferrari's F40 definitely had an edge. Also, the Porsche 959 started production in 1986, and it was capable 444 hp and 369 lb-ft. Ultimately, the F40 was the king of the late 1980's. Ferrari 288 GTO vs F40 vs F50 vs Enzo vs LaFerrari: Part 1

One of the perks of our job is to watch a ton of car videos in order to provide you with the best content on the internet. That being said, Alejandro Salomon has raised the bar for supercar footage, starting with his "Hyper 5" series and now with the "Ferrari's Big 5" series. In this series, he and his team pit the Italian company's big five cars against each other: the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari. After a thorough series of legal disclaimers, the evolution of the modern Ferrari is shown in exquisite detail, as this video was meant to serve as an introduction to what's to come. You see, this is only part one of a new three-part series, and we can barely wait for the next installment. We’re not sure how he was able to gather these cars together in one place because this is the automotive equivalent of dividing by zero. Either way, we should all be thankful that he created this series.Check out the first video below and stay with us for Part 2. And, if you want, pick your favorite and put it in the comments below.Ferrari For Sale (Source: Ferrari)

Ferrari F40s Cruise Through Monaco And Burnout

Editor's Note: Do not attempt to recreate or reenact this video at home._________________________The Ferrari F40 is one of the marque's more famous vehicles - and for good reason. Not only was it the last model to be approved by Enzo Ferrari, but it could accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds, a feat for when it was released in 1987. There's no question about the fact that the F40 is an incredibly potent vehicle, and its engine note can back that claim up from three blocks over.(See Also: Ferrari Valued Just Under $10 Billion, IPO Terms Announced)But when you add a Tubi Style exhaust to the F40, as YouTuber Gumbal recently saw in Monaco, it sounds even better. In a video uploaded today, we get to see what seems to be multiple F40s driving around Europe's supercar capital. Gumbal managed to capture one of them revving their engine up and burning out. Ferrari F40s Revving in a Tunnel

There's something exhilarating about the sound of a Ferrari revving, and there's something overwhelmingly exciting when it's a Ferrari revving in a tunnel. And when it's a Ferrari F40, it becomes downright majestic. With the incredible acoustics of a rounded, concrete, enclosed space, a Ferrari's engine can be amplified to insane levels, almost to the point where other drivers on the road are jumping from surprise. While headed to a Supercar Day event, the Supercar Driver captured a video of precisely that show of sound. Two F40s can be seen among a crowd of Porsches, Lamborghinis and McLarens headed down a highway together, and when they enter the tunnel, each switches gears to show off their best noise.(See Also: Ferrari F12 Versione Speciale Spotted Ahead of Official Unveiling)Check out the video above to get a good listen to these incredible sounds, and browse our exclusive listings below to find a Ferrari F40 for yourself.
