In motorsport, certain circuits evolve into more than just tracks; they become proving grounds for race teams and manufacturers, and few carry that weight quite like Nürburgring. Originally opened in 1927 in the Eifel mountains, its infamous Nordschleife stretches over 12.9 miles with more than 150 corners, constant elevation changes, and little room for error, earning its Green Hell status among those who continue to use it as the ultimate test of performance. The team at Ford Racing just made history at the Nürburgring with the Ford GT MkIV, setting the fastest lap time ever by an American OEM.
Clocking a blistering lap time of 6:15.997, the Ford GT MkIV took the title from the previous 6:49.275 lap record of Chevrolet’s 1,250-horsepower C8 Corvette ZR1X, making this a battle of American muscle with no plans on stopping anytime soon. News comes not long after the 815-horsepower Mustang GTD claimed its title as one of the fastest production cars on the Nürburgring in March, with a time of 6:41.74, later to be beaten by the Mercedes-AMG ONE.
Along with the announcement, Ford Racing also released an official onboard video of the GT MkIV’s record-breaking lap as the Nürburgring’s fastest car, exclusively powered by an internal combustion engine around the Nordschleife.
