McLaren W1 First Drive: Ferocious Hypercar Transcends the Track

You know things are getting serious when McLaren rolls-out the ‘1’ suffix. The origin story is, of course, the very first road car McLaren ever built, the F1. Designed by visionary Formula 1 aerodynamicist and engineer Gordon Murray, it arrived in 1992 and rendered all other supercars obsolete. The tiny, lightweight F1 embraced carbon-fibre material technology, adopted a radical centre seat driving position with two passengers set back and either side and was powered by a 6.1-litre V12 engine from BMW that might as well have been passed down directly from the Gods. Game-changer? That doesn’t even come close to describing its impact, even if at the time sales didn’t come easy… The P1 was very different. Rather than a unique side project from the Formula 1 team, it was instead a statement piece for McLaren Automotive, a new road car division still in its infancy. It arrived in 2013 and was a wild-eyed showstopper. It traded the long-legged gait and supple suspension of the F1 for a weaponized hybrid system capable of delivering 903bhp and huge blue flames from its drainpipe exhaust. In Race mode, it lowered by 2-inches and its massive concave rear wing extended into the sky. The P1 was all about aerodynamic downforce, crazed acceleration and a snorting, angry soundtrack that mixed venomous twin-turbocharged V8 with the manic whirr of electric motors. Not so much a car as a force of nature. And now there’s this: The W1. It’s a true successor to the P1 with a similar brief and, on the face of it, it evolves rather than radically reinvents McLaren’s vision for the ultimate hypercar. This is not a criticism. How could it be when the result is this dramatic and has such staggering, other-worldly potential? The W1 has 1258bhp delivered to the rear wheels. It’s capable of 0-124 mph in 5.8-seconds, the quarter mile in 9.6-seconds at 167 mph and produces 2205lbs of downforce at 174 mph. The active aerodynamics – particularly a rear wing that extends way out beyond the rear of the car – are pure performance art and deliver massive aerodynamic efficiency. The result, aside from looking extremely cool, is that the W1 is McLaren’s fastest road car around a racetrack. Ever. Their benchmark circuit is the breath-taking Handling Track at the Nardo proving ground in southern Italy, where the W1 beats their previous benchmark, the flyweight McLaren Senna, by three seconds per lap. Or “a lifetime” as they call it in racing. Maybe two lifetimes! Core to the W1’s performance is the new ‘Aerocell’ carbon fibre tub. With integrated seats and a raised footwell to allow for inboard pushrod-operated front suspension – which in turn gives air a clean path to the huge underbody diffuser – it’s light, stiff, space efficient and has been instrumental in McLaren realising a full ground-effect concept. Just like last year’s F1 cars, which were the fastest ever made. There is also an active front wing and the aforementioned complex rear wing dubbed ‘Active Long Tail’. All of which is very admirable. But the ‘anhedral’ or gullwing doors and the fantastically shirnked-wrapped feel to the minimalist, highly-focussed interior are a pretty good side effect. The W1 feels special. Those fixed seats are perhaps a shade more upright than expected, and the driving position is less obviously racecar than, for example, the Aston Martin Valhalla or Ferrari F80. However, once you’ve adjusted the pedals (they move on a slider) and the delicate, slim-rimmed and alcantara-trimmed steering wheel, there’s an overwhelming sense of purpose. The cabin is so tightly tailored and imparts a sense of lightness and agility before you so much as start the all-new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which makes 916bhp all on its own and revs to 9200rpm. Reach up to a roof-mounted control panel to find the starter button. Maybe this fighter plane trope is a little corny, but somehow you feel thrilled rather than manipulated. The W1 has a sense of humour as well as all that motorsport-derived sophistication. There’s a short delay, but when the engine does fire it’s instant – as the high-powered hybrid system negates the need for an old-school starter motor. A sharp flare of revs tells you that this engine is hyper-responsive and angry. On some deep level your brain and body have been sent all the signals required to prepare for something new and intense. Ahead of us, an empty Mugello racetrack, so press and hold the blue button next to the red starter to select Race mode. The centre display graphic shows the W1’s transformation in real time as it lowers by 37mm at the front and 17mm at the rear whilst simultaneously undocking all that active aero goodness. Race mode is not road legal and is geo-locked. You can show your friends and neighbours the aero dance, but it won’t allow you to select a gear to actually drive unless you’re at a circuit. Incidentally, the rocker switches either side of the display binnacle allow further options now: Toggle up the Handling control on the left for Race+ (for F1-spec super smooth tracks) or stick to Race for gnarlier ones. On the right toggle select ‘GP’ for sustained performance over a stint or ‘Sprint’ to unleash all 1258bhp for a time attack. There’s also a DRS and Boost function on the steering wheel. But I guarantee you won’t have the mental capacity to use them… Exit the pitlane, pin the throttle and W1 takes maybe a millisecond or two to gather its might (the gearing stretches to around 60mph in first, nearly 100mph in second, primarily to aid traction), but then lunges at the first turn with incredible ferocity. It instantly feels light, almost like inertia is no longer a thing. McLaren really does prize lightweight engineering, and at 3084lbs (dry) the W1 has a 278lbs advantage over the Ferrari F80. Plus, Ferrari uses figures for cars fitted with every single carbon fibre option. In reality, the gap is probably wider still. The impression of agility and stunning control continues as the track is unravelled at startling pace. The electric motor mounted to the side of the new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission is good for 342bhp and 324lb ft and it boosts any low rev lethargy the new flat-plane crank V8 might have (spoiler alert: It doesn’t appear to have any), so the W1 just feels massively, almost impossibly powerful at any revs. Even so, there’s real reward for wringing it out to 9200rpm and the power curve feels superheated but organic, too. In Race mode the steering – still hydraulically powered – has less assistance and it is noticeably heavier than other McLarens. However, that resistance is welcome as it gives you something to push against and imparts so much information about the front grip level. New Pirelli Trofeo RS tyres with a bigger front footprint than P1 or Senna really help. The front-end feels incredibly secure and the rear-axle follows with perfectly-aligned precision. The whole car feels super-stiff, completely locked into the surface and inspires confidence, but there’s an inherent agility and adjustability that means you’re quickly confident to push at its limits and really impose yourself on the chassis. It’s such a complex car but the driving experience is intuitive, and the driver feels a key contributor rather than just amazed (or terrified) observer, holding on for dear life. Every dynamic ingredient really is shockingly effective and yet has a subtlety and lightness of touch. From that delicious steering to the incredible brakes, the W1 just feels so mission-focussed, so hooked-up. Only the new 8-speed gearbox is a slightly disappointment. It’s fast and punchy, but after the scintillating energy of the Ferrari F80 ’box it feels competent rather than inspired. Other quibbles – it’s okay to quibble when the starting price is $2.1-million before tax and destination charge. Well, that new twin-turbocharged V8 sounds tightly wound and aggressive but if you have a P1 tucked in the garage you’ll miss the snorting, Darth Vader-style soundscape and all the drama that goes with it. Ferrari does this better, too. The F80 sounds deathly dull from the outside but is a riot of turbochargers, electric motors and all sorts of mechanical fury within the cockpit. Even so, the W1 is wildly entertaining on track, and the rear-drive configuration makes it more of a challenge and more satisfying than the F80 when chasing lap times or just sliding around for fun. In the Ferrari, you must second-guess what the front e-axle might do, whereas in the W1 it’s all on you. There are plenty of tools to help, including the ingenious Variable Drift Control, but somehow the W1 is more heroic. Or at least fools you into feeling more heroic – which is surely the point! On the road? Nimble, loaded with feel and sublime response. The ride is noticeably tougher than, say, a 750S but the control is ramped-up too, and with a bit more speed the whole car finds a delicious rhythm. Sport mode for the drivetrain brings some nice turbo whooshes and chirps, but the noise remains high-quality rather than extreme excitement. It is perhaps the one area the W1 feels just a little too tame. Of course, there’s nothing tame about the raw performance… which is genuinely shocking and literally hurts your neck muscles after a few hours. How McLaren has given the W1 such immense traction through just two driven wheels is beyond me. So, is it worthy of that ‘1’? I think so. Perhaps we won’t be talking about $25-million auction results for the W1 in 30 years from now, as we are for the F1. Perhaps it doesn’t quite have the amazing presence and jaw-dropping star quality of the simply gorgeous P1. But it is such an intense experience and the way it marries stunning track performance with delicate poise and entertainment on normal roads is something akin to magic. Maybe not ‘the one’ but definitely a searing, outrageous addition to McLaren’s fiercest family line. Just 399 W1’s will be built and they’re all sold. I’m not surprised at all. Land Rover Classic to Showcase 10 Historic Expedition Ico...

It is often said that the first vehicle ever seen by over one-third of the world’s population was a Land Rover. That staggering legacy didn’t happen by chance, but was forged by a burning desire to explore the unknown, to go where no one had gone before. Since 1948, that spirit of adventure has fueled the overland expeditions that made Land Rover a global icon and laid the foundation for the vehicles showcased in this exhibition. Now, Land Rover Classic is bringing a fleet of ten legendary off-road explorers to Pebble Beach for a tribute to 75 years of global adventure. Dubbed "The Great Expeditions," this curated collection tells the story of how Land Rover became the backbone of exploration across every continent and some of the harshest conceivable terrain on Earth. Following last year’s celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s personal Land Rovers, the 2025 exhibit on the 17th fairway at Pebble Beach will shift focus from royalty to ruggedness, off-road prowess, and capability. Each 4x4 in this historic lineup represents a chapter in Land Rover’s story of endurance, resilience, and engineering brilliance. “We’re proud to return with this exhibition. These cars make it clear that each classic has a story worth celebrating.” - Dominic Elms, Director of Land Rover Classic. The collection includes the U.S. debut of Pollyanna, an early 1950 Series I driven solo by Australian adventurer Barbara Toy from London to Baghdad, the Iraqi capital today. That journey sparked a decades-long relationship between one woman and her Land Rover, resulting in multiple books and global expeditions that helped define the spirit of the British marque. Alongside Pollyann, the Oxford, a 1955 Series I, with teams from the Oxford and Cambridge universities, took on the Far Eastern Expedition, which embarked on a journey from London to Singapore, when no vehicle had ever completed the route. Passing through 17 countries and covering 18,000 miles, the journey took over six months, even receiving BBC coverage by a young David Attenborough. Then there’s Grizzly Torque, a 1957 Series I built for Canadian biologist Bristol Foster and artist Robert Bateman. Together they tackled four continents in a single 14-month trek, documenting wildlife and cultures through paint, film, and photography. That vehicle was lost for decades until it resurfaced in British Columbia and was painstakingly restored. Cambridge, the 1960 Series II that journeyed through South America and into the heart of the Amazon. The 1971 Darien Gap Range Rover, another standout, conquered the notorious 250-mile jungle stretch between Panama and Colombia that breaks up the Pan-American highway. It took the team 99 days to get through the extreme terrain that covers the narrow patch of land that connects North and South America. Equipped with winches, roof racks, and grit, it proved that Range Rover was far more than a luxury nameplate and conquered the grueling 18,000-mile expedition from Alaska to Cape Horn. The 1989 Great Divide Expedition Range Rover climbed to over 13,000 feet on its 1,100-mile route through the Colorado Rockies, while the 1993 La Ruta Maya Defender 110 navigated 1,500 miles through some of Central America’s harshest jungle tracks to honor Mayan heritage. The exhibit will also feature icons from Land Rover’s legendary Camel Trophy years, like the 1998 Defender 110 used by the U.S. team in Tierra del Fuego in South America, and the 1993 NAS Defender 110, one of just 500 ever sold in the United States, which supported the La Ruta Maya expedition across Central America. Riding on the success of its best-selling Defender, more recently, Land Rover also announced a heritage-inspired modern-day Defender 110 Trophy Edition. It celebrates the spirit of the legendary Camel Trophy for a new age of global adventurers in the new Defender Trophy. Even more recent legends will make an appearance at the upcoming event. Case in point, the 2003 Discovery II from the LONGITUDE Expedition, which circumnavigated the globe for Parkinson’s research. During its 41,000-mile journey across 31 countries, the team also met his holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, who signed the vehicle’s hood with a personal blessing. The 2014 Silk Road Hybrid Range Rover, meanwhile, became the first diesel-electric hybrid to complete the legendary 13-country route from the company’s Solihull plant in England to Mumbai, home base of parent company Tata Group and the financial capital of India. “This special class celebrates cars that forged new paths through some of the most difficult terrain on our planet. We thank Land Rover Classic and JLR North America for helping to curate this special class, as well as the British Motor Museum and individual owners who are sharing their cars here at Pebble Beach.” - Sandra Button, Chairman of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Urban Automotive dials up the performance Range Rover even further. Range Rover evolved its approach to performance SUVs when it announced the Range Rover Sport SV, the new generation of the Range Rover Sport’s performance pinnacle. With a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine under the hood, the immense power and performance potential, combined with the Range Rover Sport’s sumptuous luxury, team up to create a coveted luxury performance SUV formula. However, Urban Automotive, known for its customizations of models like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Mercedes-Benz G-Class, and the lineup from Range Rover’s sister brand under the Land Rover umbrella, Defender, has unveiled its “ultimate” Range Rover Sport, the Urban XRS Widetrack, which is based on the performance-oriented Range Rover Sport SV. Land Rover fan or not, if you’re into off-roading at all, you’ve most likely heard of the glorious Camel Trophy, the golden era when mud-caked Defenders slogged it out through some of the most inhospitable places on the planet. Think tropical Borneo, icy Siberia, or the unforgiving Amazon. For many, nothing can come close to those images of classic boxy 4x4s buried in jungle muck to their door handles and truly defined off-road adventure in the wild. Now, Land Rover is bringing back that spirit in the modern era, and this time, they’re going global. The British marque’s best-seller, the modern-day Defender that launched in 2019, has announced the launch of Defender Trophy, a bold new challenge inspired by those legendary expeditions of the 1980s and ‘90s. Designed to test both man and machine, this multi-stage competition invites applicants from over 50 countries to prove their mettle across a series of challenges and extreme terrain, culminating in a grand finale in Africa in 2026. Global adventure and community have been the fabric of the Defender brand’s DNA for decades, staying true to its roots that can be traced back to the original Land Rover of 1948. Land Rover Defender Refreshed: Here's What’s New For 2026

As the global auto industry is still dealing with trade uncertainty and regulatory hurdles over the recent tariffs, Jaguar Land Rover posted some record numbers with a pre-tax profit of £2.5 billion ($3.13 billion), JLR's best annual profits in over a decade. JLR has recorded 10 consecutive profitable quarters. While smarter operations and stricter cost control were key drivers, one of the models leading the charge was the Land Rover Defender. Five years have passed since the Defender was introduced, but demand for Land Rover’s most rugged model remains high, selling 115,404 units last year. But a mid-cycle refresh was in order, and Land Rover has decided to spruce up the Defender lineup for the 2026 model year with sharper design, smarter tech, and even more off-road hardware, available across 90, 110, and 130 body styles. Visually, things have been tightened on the 2026 Defender. You get redesigned LED headlights with a new signature and foglights that are standard across the model range, while the flush rear lights now feature smoked lenses. The dark theme continues with a darkened grille bar, gloss-black Defender-branded wheel center caps, and the bumpers have been resurfaced for a cleaner, but tougher appearance with new textured finishes on the hood and side vents. Two new paint options join the palette: Borasco Grey, which is a shimmering metallic shade inspired by a historic Californian silver mine, and Woodstone Green, a deep green with warm undertones, that draws inspiration from a waterfall in the U.K. Inside, tech upgrades include a larger 13.1-inch touchscreen (the outgoing 2025 model features a max 11.4 inches) mounted above the repositioned dash gear selector. A new Driver Attention Monitor that employs a driver-facing camera to track gaze and alert distracted drivers via audio-visual cues. Paired with a reworked center console, featuring sliding compartments, hidden cubbies, and removable side pockets, this is a cabin that packs utility without compromise. For added practicality, the jump seat upfront remains available in most models, allowing for three abreast seating. But perhaps, for off-road fans, the biggest leap forward is with the terrain management system. For the first time, Land Rover is offering Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control in the Defender, which lets you select a comfort level rather than a set speed. The system automatically modulates throttle and braking across difficult terrain. The more extreme Defender OCTA model gets its own share of updates. The high-performance flagship of the lineup continues to pack a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 635 horsepower, 6D Dynamics suspension, and OCTA mode tuned specifically for high-speed off-road performance. As for colors, a trim-exlusive Sargasso Blue or Borasco Gray is now available with a contrasting matt-surface Textured Graphite finish on key exterior elements. A Patagonia White Matte Wrap is due later this year on the OCTA and 5.0-liter V8 models. One thing that makes the Defender so appealing is its vast selection of options, and the refreshed model doesn’t disappoint. Accessory packs like Explorer, Adventure, and Urban return, now with darker finishes and new details. The long-body Defender 130 now offers an integrated air compressor, handy for adjusting tire pressure on the fly, ideal after tackling soft sand. On the OCTA, optional carbon-fiber accents, forged 20-inch alloy wheels, and Matte Protective Film, along with a 4,500 kg-rated (9,900 lbs) winch with chopped carbon fiber cover, are available. Prices in the U.K. start at £57,135, and while the updates were announced domestically, expect most of these features to carry over to the U.S. model. Given the Defender’s importance in JLR’s North American strategy, the luxury automaker will be keen to take advantage of the new U.S.-U.K. trade agreement that drops tariffs from 27.5% to 10% for British-built cars (with a limited annual quota) to maintain sales of this popular off-roader. The Land Rover Discovery will soon turn 35, but the Disco story is far from over, as the British marque is commemorating this milestone with two special editions based on the fifth-gen Discovery: the Tempest and Gemini. Released in the U.K. for now, their design and details are a nod to the model’s early days and an SUV that’s determined to remain relevant in a fiercely competitive market. The timing for this announcement couldn’t have been more perfect, given how JLR is coming off of its most successful fiscal year in a decade, with Land Rover leading the charge. The Tempest (above), being dubbed as “the most luxurious Discovery ever,” draws design cues and its name from the second-gen model’s internal development program. It comes in a matte protective film over Charente Grey, Carpathian Grey, or Varsine Blue paint colors, paired either with a Petra Copper or gloss black roof. The copper detailing also extends to the wing vents, bumper inserts, and the 22-inch wheels that are lacquered in matching copper tones as well. Exclusive Tempest badges can also be found on the treadplates, door pillars, and in the puddle lamps. Step inside and you’ll be greeted with extended Ebony Windsor leather upholstery, Shadow Aluminium accents. The Gemini edition (below) has nothing to do with Google’s AI assistant. Instead, for Land Rover, this badge goes way back and is an homage to the original 1989 Discovery, borrowing its name from the codename of that model’s innovative diesel engine. Perhaps a bit less ostentatious but still thoroughly premium, the Gemini edition is available in six paint finishes, including a new-to-Discovery Sedona Red. It rides on slightly smaller seven-spoke 21-inch diamond-turned alloy wheels and features a contrasting Narvik Black roof with gloss black trim. Inside, it’s ideal for families with a front seat cooler, media holders on the rear backs, and tri-zone climate control as standard. Under the hood, both models pack Land Rover’s 3.0-liter Ingenium D350 diesel engine and a mild hybrid setup delivering 345 horsepower and 700 nm (517 pound-feet) of torque. One of the areas where the Discovery shines over its competitors is off-road, and full Disco capability has been retained here with proper four-wheel drive hardware and 7,700 pounds of towing capacity. Land Rover is further bolstering the broader Discovery lineup with new “Curated” accessory packs, comprising things like Beach sunshades, a roof rack, snow-ready mats, mudflaps, and cargo boxes. Prices in the U.K. start at £64,810 (about $85,513 based on current exchange rates), with both special edition models joining the rest of the Discovery lineup. For now, there are no details of a U.S. release. For American buyers, a diesel-only option won’t cut it. Currently, the base Discovery comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and starts at $60,700, with the top-spec Metropolitan Edition coming in at $79,800. The upcoming Range Rover Electric shines when the temperature drops. Standing as one of the world’s most legendary, celebrated, and quintessential luxury SUVs, the Range Rover brand sent shockwaves through the automotive industry when it was announced that an electric variant, simply dubbed the Range Rover Electric, would be coming at some point soon. A waitlist for the new electric model has grown to immense numbers, and testing updates from Land Rover have consistently shown that the Range Rover Electric will be just as capable as the existing combustion Range Rover models, and add a new versatility to the lineup with electric mobility. With the chill of winter thawing, giving way to spring, Land Rover is now announcing that the second testing season for the Range Rover Electric has been completed, which took place in the extremely wintry conditions of northern Europe. In this testing, the Range Rover Electric managed to conquer the challenging climate and demonstrate incredible prowess on ice and snow, and in sub-zero temperatures. Arjeplog, Sweden, nestled in the country’s famous Lapland region which is known for its freezing-cold winters, served as the gauntlet for the Range Rover Electric, where the new electric luxury SUV endured up to 45,000 miles of accumulated testing on frozen lakes and snowy tracks. Throughout the testing, the Range Rover Electric’s ThermAssist technology allowed the vehicle to optimize its driving range, while efficiently managing the temperature of the cabin and the propulsion system. In addition, working with Terrain Response, single-pedal driving is elevated from its typical purpose to enable Hill Hold without the driver needing to touch the brakes, with the function teseted on both 28 and 17-degree inclines. Land Rover Revives The Classic Defender Soft Top With V8 ...

While the modern-resto mod scene continues to gain momentum, it's not every day that an automaker itself brings back a fan favourite. But, Land Rover has done just that with the Classic Defender V8 Soft Top, a re-engineered throwback to the golden age of open-top utility, now infused with modern muscle. The soft-top configuration is a nod to icons like the North American Specification (NAS) of the 1990s. These open-air Defenders have become cult collectibles today, and sales on the secondary market routinely fetch well north of $150,000. Clearly, there is a demand for these old-school Defenders, with companies like Florida-based ECD Automotive Design thriving on this trend. Now, Land Rover itself wants to get in on the action with the Classic Defender V8 Soft Top. Hand-built at the Solihull plant in the U.K., each model begins life as a short-wheelbase Defender 90 donor, manufactured between 2012-2016. Land Rover Classic then completely transforms these vehicles. Under the hood, you get a potent 5.0-liter V8, paired with a slick ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. This gives the heritage off-roader enough modern grunt, with 0-60 mph coming up in just 5.6 seconds. Alcon brakes ensure that the stopping power matches the performance boost. But the upgrades don’t stop there, as this body-on-frame 4x4 also features anti-roll bars and Bilstein dampers for a more refined ride. Beyond the mechanical stuff, Land Rover also offers an extensive range of personalisation options. You can choose from 49 factory paint shades or choose to go the fully bespoke route with a color match service. Choose from 16-inch steelies or 18-inch Sawtooth alloys. Inside, up to eight 2-tone leather combinations are on offer, along with a range of accessories like an onboard wine cooler. As for the roof, there’s a full-length soft-top available in black, sand, navy, or khaki, complete with authentic webbing and tie-downs. A bikini-hood option is also available, offering overhead protection just for the front passengers. While the aftermarket does offer plenty of options when it comes to custom Defenders, for some, nothing will ever come close to an officially sanctioned example with a matching build-VIN, direct from the mothership. Starting at £195,000 before taxes (roughly $260,000), the Classic Defender Soft-Top V8 offers up a chance to savor the open-air magic, as the factory quietly steps away from one of its most celebrated models. Ironically, this announcement comes at a time when the U.S. market faces a Defender void. Land Rover has temporarily paused its exports to the United States, amid the recent light of U.S. import tariffs. This hiatus could only fuel demand for classic Defenders. Defender’s new performance off-roader takes on rally ambitions. Recently, Defender announced that it would be setting its sights on the legendary Dakar Rally by participating in the FIA World Rally‑Raid Championship starting in 2026. As part of its participation in the ‘Stock’ category featuring production-based vehicles, two Defender rally vehicles will participate in all five rounds of the W2RC, while three will be participating in the Dakar Rally. The regulations for the Stock category of the championship have been revised in order to make the category more competitive for 2026, responding to the increased popularity of many 4x4s and SUVs on the production vehicle market. Seeing rally racers based on production vehicles will undoubtedly excite enthusiasts and show off the potential of off-road-ready models. The recently-revealed Defender OCTA, the new off-road performance-oriented variant of the legendary Defender, serves as the basis for the new rally vehicles. To highlight the toughness and capability of its engineering, Defender says that its rally vehicles will retain not only the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that powers the Defender OCTA, but also the OCTA’s D7x architecture, transmission and driveline layout. New One-Off Range Rover SV Candeo Revealed

Miami Art Week is the backdrop for a new bespoke Range Rover. Miami Art Week is a celebration of design and creative excellence, as well as a celebration of the beauty and lifestyle of the city of Miami. As part of the Miami Art Week festivities, Range Rover has revealed its latest SV Bespoke creation, the new Range Rover SV Candeo, which is a one-off rendition of the legendary Range Rover luxury SUV with ultra-luxurious details and a configuration inspired by Miami’s beauty. The stunning bespoke long-wheelbase Range Rover also previews available personalization features that are coming for Range Rover customers in the 2026 model year. Its name, ‘candeo,’ is derived from Latin for “to shine” or “to glow,” and as such, its configuration features touches like 18-karat solid gold badging, a duo-tone fading paint job that is hand-applied and inspired by Miami’s coastline and skyline, and a light-themed embroidery pattern inside, with 90,000 stitches in each rear seat cushion. However, it goes even further than that, as the seatbacks are also embroidered, as is the headliner. The upholstery consists of Liberty Blue Near‑Aniline and Perlino Semi‑Aniline leather, paired with ceramic accents and Natural Dark wood veneers. The stunning vehicle is on display at Miami Design from December 3 to December 8, and after a year in the making, the vehicle will be sold in a special auction. Land Rover is set to donate proceeds above the MSRP to Arts Access Miami, making the new one-off Range Rover SV Candeo an ode to Miami Art Week and the beautiful Sunshine State city.
